Tamolitch Falls / Blue Pool Trail - Oregon

We kicked off our trip to Oregon by hiking the Tamolitch Falls / Tamolitch Blue Pool Trail. The trail is located in McKenzie Bridge, Oregon and is an out and back hike. Trail stats are just around 4 miles with 350 ft of elevation change. It’s all in old growth forest and…it’s beautiful. The falls are seasonal and were dry when we went, but that actually added to the tranquility at the pool itself. It’s fed by a spring that you can even see bubbling under the surface. The video speaks for itself; this is a beautiful trail.

After finishing the hike, we took the scenic drive on the Highway 242.

That’s where things got really interesting. We passed through the deep forest for several miles before coming to some fire damage. And right after that the scenery changed dramatically; suddenly we were driving through the largest lava field I’ve ever seen. This is where we came across the Dee Wright Observatory. Sometimes these unexpected finds are what make adventuring so much fun. Neither of us had any idea it was there.

Anyway, I’ll let you look up the observatory and it’s history yourself. We’ll call it a learning experience for you and not at all because I’m too lazy to write it all up here.
