[PS4] KHIIFM Critical Speedrun Jafar Comparison
updated
Forgot to highlight it or upload it but better late than never right?
Achieved on 1/13/20.
I'm not back.
This is the last pb I will ever get in KHIIFM, sorry for never uploading it till now.
Watch this run if you want strats from someone who is SO clearly tired of losing runs. Many many fights in the run use strategies that are easier to execute (for me at least) at the cost of a couple seconds. (notably Saix, Xigbar, Roxas, Storm Rider, Xaldin, Genie Jafar, Carpet Fight 1, Experiment, Hostile Program, Prison Keeper, Boat Fight, Final Pete, others I'm forgetting)
I think my only major death was Xemnas 1, with 2 quick deaths in Treasure Room and on the way to the mansion in TT3.
Equip Comet over Cure on Donald, preset Trinity before the fight starts.
Phase 1: immediately mash out trinity(break), then do a full ground combo into Valor full air combo after the trinity. Try to revert before the phase ends.
Phase 2: Immediate trinity(ultima)
Phase 3: Combos (I messed up here a bit in the video, this phase is dumb)
Phase 4: Combo until your MP is back, then start comet. Be careful though because he can shield easily since the comet will knock him up(honestly I think I got a little lucky here, but with better timing you are able to safely start comet consistently). Use comet rain for the extra damage and to give you an opening to attack when it ends. In my brief testing I always manage to get to 3 drive here comfortably.
Phase 5: Valor until pete retaliates, end with trinity(break) or RCs.
This fight got a 1:44 but on average I've been getting 1:46-1:50.
Can still fail when the rightmost building is too low but I think with perfect movement it can still work.
( 0:00 ) The opening comet on larxene can be pretty random damage wise so you have to adjust your master combo. The health she is at when she powers up matters, if its too low she will DM.
Larxene is fought during Port Royal 2
( 1:00 ) Zexion is very straightforward, just knock him in the air with thunder to easily catch with final, then finish with duckflare.
Zexion is fought during Olympus 2
( 1:39 ) Marluxia is the hardest AS by far, there are faster strategies but they use more ethers. Combos in the first phase are centered around getting 2 RCs off without overdamaging him. The Valor before the second RC is just for chip damage/mp restore if you run out or something. Knocking him in the air during the first Mega duckflare ensures you have enough time to double ether and catch him in the middle. Taking a DM is pretty much required on crit. The pillar DM is easier to deal with, but slower.
Marluxia is fought after Olympus 2 due to having leveled up final form.
( 3:35 ) Vexen is about as straightforward as Zexion. After breaking his shield just spam fires (no finishers except on the last) until you run out of MP. Then go Final into duck flare.
Vexen is fought right after or right before Marluxia.
( 4:25 ) Lexaeus is pretty easy too, use Final Form reflega to stagger him after the first duckflare, then firaga until you are out of final and finish with duck flare.
Lexaeus is actually fought immediately after sephiroth but it felt weird splitting up the AS fights.
( 5:17 ) Sephiroth is hard, good luck. The opening loop is the only consistent part of him. Reflecting the fire pillar into trinity into limit form infinity is a really strong combo you should aim for using at least twice in the fight. He tends to fire pillar after he powers up into last phase as well. Having hi potions and the elixir for safety is recommended unless you are super confident.
Sephiroth is fought right after completing Space Paranoids 2.
The second fight in this vid shows what happens if your damage isn't perfect. It's also possible for the second break to whiff so its kind of an oof.
I reloaded after defeating 2 enemies from the truck + car spawn, while making sure no enemies from previous waves are alive.
My decision making could probably be better pre reload, but the post reload fights went well.
WR I guess.
Blindsided was pretty bad. Would have 100% reset if it weren't a practice run lmao.
The rest of the run was really solid, although I was panicking near the end so the last split was a bit slow.
If you are faster maybe stealth killing the last 2 is possible, I just wanted to get a recording of this up.
yay it's consistent now thank god
If you cut the corner into the tube you lose out on another 50 munny but save slightly more time.
01:25 ToyBox
03:05 Corona from Waypoint SLW-03
03:50 Getting Endymion and Waypoint
05:30 Monstropolis
06:50 Arendelle
07:27 Carribean
07:45 San Fransokyo
08:16 Keyblade Graveyard
Currently the fastest known route through the gummi missions.
Top Right = Pessidaj (4th place)
Bottom Left = Pessidaj with 3 engines (3rd place)
Bottom Right = Pessidaj with 3 engines + teeny ship (2nd place)
The boss fights after Astrowarrior(toybox) were all more or less the same speed with these setups, so I edited them out to make the recording easier.
Early Endymion is just really fast. actually.
Pessidaj is unfortunate.
The modified Pessidaj and modified+teeny ships were close, but came up just short.
Unless you can prove the bosses are faster with modified+teeny, going with Early Endy seems best for now.
One day that will be figured out I'm sure.
No Comparison video of Early Endy:

maybe only 1 meow wow is worth using hmm
bottom right = late
This comparison showed around a 30 second timesave with getting Endymion early.
Showing the full set of routes because I'm working on a bigger comparison.
Monstro boss wasn't perfect on either side but that only added a 2 second variance so I left it in.
For the pirates mission with getting Endymion, my file already had it so it's not a perfect comparison but it still gets the point across I think.

First off, on the way to Twilight Town, activate Waypoint SLW-03. This means you do not get the Fira G for the Toybox boss. This route takes no fights so probably loses some igt.
For the Toybox route, I show an optional alternate route that doesnt save much if any real time, but probably saves IGT (at the cost of some munny) due to taking an extra fight.
For the Corona route, leave from Waypoint SLW-03 and turn almost all the way around, aiming for the most munny possible.
Saves around 9-10 seconds real time (slightly less igt probably) and optimally loses around 200 munny (1 ether).

Left shows fastest current strats afaik.
Right shows a new way that is slightly faster and doesn't sacrifice too much munny.

Obviously my execution can be better as well but this is the best I got so far.
Splits are from Mist's 4:29.
Rounds 49-40 My strats here arent too great and I made some mistakes, mainly on behemoth. Matching mist here is ez if you dont fall off.
Rounds 39-30 were good, even saved a mega ether somehow
Rounds 29-20 good but probably improvable
Rounds 19-20 probably the worst section here, its really hard and I messed up on hades. still saved time tho.
Rounds 9-1 were good enough
ice titan used an outdated strat whoops dont watch this
dont watch my sephiroth either its traaaaash.
Restarts on rounds 29 and 9 saved a lot of time too
Calling D and G during the movement seems to help getting the blue menu before you land, but that might not be necessary.
Also, getting enough mp for Maleficent after this is tricky if you dont have at least 1 of either Jackpot or preferably Treasure Magnet equipped. An ether also works but is slow unless you throw it on the elevator.
I spam graviga off to the side at the start to hopefully let goofy finish a few tornadoes without getting hit. Since I haven't messed with the fight very much, that might not be fully necessary but for now this is what I got.
Goofy's setup is in this screen shot: https://i.gyazo.com/d5fcab2a1d96115d9eb89d720bd2b5db.png
My movement sucks but you kinda get the idea.
I might have missed something.
If you are underdamaged after final form, just do a normal combo and wait for another reload.
This strat should also work for beginner.
Deflect barely saves time and is somewhat difficult. It could save more time if you jump earlier, but that risks missing the first jump.
The fastest strat here would be to get 9 jumps while avoiding the thrust like Ninten does, but I can't mash that fast.
Not massively faster than any% strats, but it properly shows off how stupid final glide is.
Right = Fighting him right before Jafar
Neither of these is perfect but it gives a rough idea.
Right loses 15-20 seconds but lets you save roughly 7 seconds on jafar, as well as making hyenas 2 much more consistent.
Not sure if buying an extra accessory to use after hyenas 2 is worth it yet. If so, it could save enough time to make this worth doing.
Getting Level 2 Final Form lets you do this... woo nelly
This strat is so fast, but so hard.
This is slightly slower than using Peter Pan after the merge(and it loses more time from not using a drive in the rumbling rose segment), but its waaay cooler.
If Goofy dies before this section, healing him is a good idea. If you can't heal him, freeze Grim Reaper (If he's a little higher above the ground use a jump blizzard) before running out of mp so you can attack him for more mp orbs. Obviously in rando and not a speedrun you can just throw ethers or summon stitch and not worry so much about the mp orbs. If you run out of mp and let him break out, if you dont re-stagger him with magic quickly he will restart his RC, so keep that in mind.
You can also switch Jack back in over Donald, since he can help drop more mp.
Mostly just wanted this documented on my channel.
I haven't spent too much time with this fight so there might still be something faster.
So I played Destiny 2 recently and when I got to this scene I knew I had to throw this together.
Sub 3:50 is super possible.
Uses Magnetless version of my Master Genie Setup.
The first 2 horizontal slashes are for added damage and to buy time for my mp to recharge.
Getting knocked back in mid air by the claymore puts me in perfect position to use arcana.
This is very fast and consistent, please learn it if you can.
This works on both beginner and critical mode.
