I spent half a year just studying the material on Felix Salten. I am always looking for a close connection to the text, and so it was with Bambi. While I was illustrating Bambi, I kept a diary and reflected on the creative process. Many abstract drawings emerged in which I surrendered to the beauty of structures and rhythms. Only later did I look for scenes from the book in them. Much of this process is intuitive to me. For Bambi, I developed two concepts. In the first one, which is now done, I let the text play a big role, while the illustrations are meant to encourage the readers to own experience of what is written. In the second concept, on the other hand, I strongly emphasized the hidden content of the text. The forest becomes Vienna. We see Bambi and the other forest animals as city dwellers being chased through the streets by hunters for no reason. All the caution of Bambi's mother takes on a whole new meaning. That thought still haunts me. Bambi is painted by hand. It took more than two years to finish. I love the handwork, the physical contact with the material, the slowness with which time stops, and the organic rhythm that contrasts with the crazy rhythm of time. In each book, I do something that invites me to the next. I build the illustration like a living organism from small particles that ultimately make up the image. My father, who was a sculptor, gave me a childhood surrounded by sculptures. Thanks to this gift, I have reached a whole as an illustrator.
In art, I am most interested in finding this tiny shift in thinking that is completely unnoticed at first but later leads to fundamental changes.

While visiting her studio, Alenka briefly explains how she created illustrations for the book THE ORIGINAL BAMBI.

Day by Day (2007), 15 min, Short film by Igor Matijević
We should be fascinated by never repeatable sunrises and sunsets the sky stages every day and every night. Each day has its own unique pattern and colors. So why do we mostly feel and see gray toned variation of sameness day by day?
Short but penetrable film debut by Igor Matijević triggers our innermost fears. Those are sometimes too close and too obvious for us to acknowledge them. How are we really living day by day? The author manages to do this talk with the viewer with no words at all and by being painfully funny. How is that possible – one might ask? When you watch this short film the question answers itself. We are giggling toward the most natural and obvious answer, that still manages to surprise us in the most subtle way.
The plot is plain simple: we are invited to observe the main protagonist’s daily mundane existence that is just a walk between job, TV and refrigerator. The main character playfully and innocently strikes us with the pattern the modern human being accepted as normal. It is not that through this short film Mr. Bean look a like main character would transform in Neo and fight the Matrix. He simply steps out, shamelessly as a child would take yet another candy from the jar. Yes, we are The One to do it, suggests the film. Sometimes they call it all sorts of names, even miracles. Maybe life is just a beach. Certainly we could be looking forward to what this filmmaker has to say to us next.

Nestled at the top of the Adriatic Sea it has been telling the story of coexistence of Slavic and Roman culture for centuries.
Our adventure begins in the lovely historic Mediterranean town of Piran, full of narrow streets and lively sea-side promenades.
Your home in Piran will be hotel Tartini, a boutique hotel with a cozy spirit positioned on the most prominent location in the heart of the town.
Piran is the home town of a recognized baroque composer and violinist Giuseppe Tartini, born in 1692. A kiss under Tartini's statue promises, according to an old legend, to bring good luck.
Piran becomes really romantic in the evenings, especially when explored with torches.
Taking a boat to Sečovlje Salt Pans is the only true way to start exploring this incredible cultural heritage venue and nature park.
Salt production has markedly shaped the natural and cultural landscape of the area. Nowadays Piran Salt is gaining the attention of the world's best chefs in renowned restaurants all over the world.
Fonda fish farm lies in the part of of a Bay of Piran, characterized by clear deep water and the strong sea current, where also wild fish live in abundance. Family Fonda is determined to "breed the best farmed fish in the world". Fonda Sea-Bass is a top quality fish, found by its name on the menus of best classified restaurants in Slovenia and neighboring countries.
Tourist homestead Casa del Sal and restaurant Fioret master genuine Istrian culinary delights. The food prepared by the Family Maršič comes from the nearby gardens and local providers.
Forma Viva with over a hundred stone sculptures and beautiful views of sea and salt pans is the right place to conclude the day.
Owners of homestead Kozina embody values of sustainable living. Visitors will recognize many garden herbs, discover usability of fruits, taste teas, spreads and other goodies from nature, most of them almost completely forgotten.
Fiesa bay and sea side walking route are the right place to enjoy the rest of the day. Cycling tours are getting more and more popular throughout northern Istria.
Homestead Munda is renowned for highest quality Istrian olive oil, using principles of organic oil production. Owners Vlado and Tatjana also created a number of olive-based recipes such as chocolate with olives, olive jam and spreads and more... If you prefer to stay in the kitchen, Tatjana will show you how to prepare typical Istrian dishes.
Silvano Knez is one of the founders of the traditional Persimmon Festival in Strunjan which attracts thousands of visitors each November. Persimmon is, thanks to the festival, a golden fruit again, highly appreciated and used in a number of local recipes. Each November you are warmly welcome to participate at persimmon picking in local orchards.
The trail through the beautiful hinterland brings us to idyllic vineyards. Tilen Praprotnik is a young wine-maker who has merged traditional and leading-edge ecological wine making techniques to create the widely admired wine label Steras. His wine is imbued both with flavors of Istrian soil and with the centuries of fascinating stories of wine making.
A special "terrace breakfast" to say goodbye to Piran.
Exploration of Northern Istria around Piran will immerse us into the depths of its stories, nature, food and other unforgettable adventures.
The rhythm of Istrian life remains in tune with the seasons and with proud traditional livelihoods. The region offers experiences, activities and food that help you feel vibrant and healthy and which awake the pure pleasure of being.

Test footage SONY DSC-RX100Igor Matijević2013-10-14 | A quick test of a Sony DSC-RX100 pocket camera during various shooting conditions. Sony DSC-Rx100 vs Canon G15 In my opinion RX100 is a better camera if you want to use it for video. Full manual control and 50fps vs Canon's 24fps and mostly automatic control. For video this for me is a deciding factor. For few shots I used DiCAPac WP-570 Waterproof case which performs OK for video but is useless if you plan to use the camera underwater mainly for stills.Singin in the Rain - Slovenian versionIgor Matijević2013-08-28 | First Test of Tamron 70-300 f/4-5.6 VC lensminestra.siIgor Matijević2013-08-19 | A commercial we shot during a weekend at Sveti Peter, Sečovlje for www.minestra.si Shot with Canon 550d, mostly with Auto Revuenon 55mm f1.4 wide open with M42 to EOS adapter.
