Two months ago I released a video called 'Could God Be Evil?' (youtu.be/xLnsY5io964) in which I discussed a strange and unique angle to the problem of evil for religion. If we would reject the existence of an all-evil god due to the pervasiveness of good in the world, why can't we also reject the existence of an all-good god due to the pervasiveness of evil?
Dr. Max Baker-Hytch is a tutor in philosophy at Wycliffe Hall, Oxford University. He co-authored a paper on the so-called 'evil god challenge', objecting to it in various ways. So, he and I had this discussion, to see if the evil god challenge as I originally presented it can hold up.

As Joe Biden moves the United States towards the decriminalisation of cannabis, offering pardons for all previous federal offences of marijuana possession, UK Home Secretary Suella Braverman is considering taking an opposite approach for Britain, with the press reporting that she is "receptive" to calls to upgrade the legal category of the drug from class B to class A.

George Orwell is one of the most celebrated writers of the twentieth century. Most loved and remembered for his fiction, he also produced an expansive array of essays, including "Politics and the English Language", which contains his advice regarding clarity in writing and speaking.
Today's political and academic landscape is often accused of being rife with rambling unclarity, and this was something Orwell also perceived and lamented in his own time, making much of his advice on how to avoid this still relevant today.

"I think, therefore I am" is perhaps the most famous phrase in the history of Western philosophy. Most people have heard it, many know what it means, but fewer still are aware of the myriad debates surrounding its meaning, translation, and success. I certainly wasn't before encountering it at university, where I chose to specialise in early modern philosophy.
This video is an introduction to "the cogito", as it is often called, and a brief exploration of some of the debates that surround it.
(A note: I refer to a horse and a horn as a Humean "simple idea" - this is not quite right: a simple idea is one which cannot be broken down into further simple ideas (such as colours, smells, etc.). To explain this nuance would have been an irrelevant detour, and the point ought still carry. A unicorn is, to correctly invoke Hume, a complex idea made up of further complex ideas, made up of simple ideas, which originate in simple impressions.)
(Note 2: Some empiricists will claim that knowledge comes *primarily* from our sense data, allowing for some limited a priori knowledge, and still call themselves empiricists.)

I had originally intended not to upload this talk, since it was delivered virtually, and the camera quality is poor, but listening back to it in order to find clips for my second channel, I realised it is perhaps my favourite talk of the many I have given this year, and so decided to upload it in full.

Opposition has been raised to the bill, on the grounds that it may threaten certain institutions, such as angling, hunting, and food production, among other things. Critics of the bill seem not to realise how raising such objections only demonstrates how urgently we need it to be passed into law.

Having spent the better part of five years talking about religion and atheism on YouTube, the same talking points tend to regularly arise over and over again. I wanted to talk through some of those which I believe to be the least useful, and explain why.

COVID-19 has devastated the world, but have we failed to learn one of its most important lessons? It should be obvious now that prevention is better than cure, but we are failing to eliminate one of our greatest contributions to global health risk.

------------------------------------------------------------------------Should You Sell All Your Possessions?CosmicSkeptic2020-12-16 | For three months free with Express VPN, visit http://www.expressvpn.com/cosmicskeptic
In 1971 Peter Singer proposed a now famous challenge to the idea that giving to charity is, whilst a good thing to do, not a moral obligation. He suggested (and still suggests) that since the nonessential purchases most people regularly make are nowhere near as important as the lives of those who are starving, dying, and otherwise suffering around the world, we should refuse to buy these things in order to give the money we save to charitable causes.
There is some plausibility in this view, but should it lead us to sell all our possessions and give the money to charity?
A special thanks to Mattie McDonagh for his help in producing this video.
