I haven't done anything with this in months, learned a lot from the project but no plans to continue it long term (been working on other game ideas). I did want to try export and getting this to be playable in browser, but I have no idea how Itch.io works. If anyone is interested let me know and I may look into a public playable version.

Made with Blender and FireAlpaca
I tried to experiment with a painted style, but a lot of things I tried didn't work out. I just managed to get three painted strokes from FireAlpaca on the tail in Blender, and a little bit of back fur and the eye blink scribbled in OpenToonz. Still want to figure out a painted animation style but I think I'm going to switch to mostly 2D for characters next time I experiment with it.

Animated in Blender, combination of 3D, grease pencil, and imported 2D animation through textures for the sprites. Used some modifiers like noise on grease pencil for wiggly lines and remesh for the blocky background. Fair bit going on, good animation test.

It's not really bad but hshdfkjfhf I had more hope for this (also had a lot more of the song planned out but then was like nah and just want to make sure I finish for the monthly animation). Also RIP audio sync.
3D character animation test. Grease pencil outlines and cell shading has been gross on characters and pure lineless/shadeless loses clarity when things the same color overlap. May use 3D characters in some places but I think I want to try more with mixing 2D (kept leaning more towards 3D but there is a definite awkward stiffness I haven't been able to get rid of that does not look good on characters).
also pi lore drop omg hi 👉👈 This is Crish (full stage name Crescendo) and he's an actor for PI. He's basically a mascot to manage public perception and pretends to fight monsters and do cool stuff specifically for the public to see. Main characters hate him and have some interesting conflicts in the story.
Idk how many people are still interested or even remember the series (used to be called Pi is Fine but I have renamed it and leaving the new name a surprise for now). It's been in development hell for eight years and sometimes wish I just went for it and shared more sooner, but I do really like how the story has evolved and think I'm finally reaching a level where animation for it might actually turn out decent. I was very close to putting out voice actor casting calls and trying to finish something by 3/14, but I want to figure out the character animation more first and keep experimenting with animation styles.
First attempt animating with grease pencil and trying a lot of stuff in Blender. Layers are a mess but I did manage to get my horribly broken and unrealistic 2D face anatomy into a 3D environment and incorporated into the 3D model to where I can move things around and change angles a bit without immediately breaking it.
I made this scene to use in art for a friend, reused it for a quick Blender Cycles water/reflection test since it already had a lot of reflective objects and objects to reflect.
Pretty happy with current style and render times are okay even on Cycles with 70 frames. I've only been working with a blue sky so I should try other sky colors soon. Sky color in reflections don't really match and also missing shading (I don't think there is a way to fix it if I render reflections in Cycles since my current shading method only works in Eevee and would be way slower to render in Cycles even if I could). I don't think it looks bad though and fits with the stylization. I also have to try rendering opacity instead of reflections on the water. Also really got to try more with mixing 2D animation and practicing with drawing lineless.
Progress on the asset sheet is going well so I can build simple nature scenes quickly, still working out how I'm going to make buildings and cities though, and also definitely need to try vehicles again now that I'm better with modeling.
There's so much animation I lost track of and gifs that I would need to convert before I can put them into a video, also had rough animations and less finished work. With the amount of animation I didn't add and kept it to finished stuff (at least the clips done if the whole animation wasn't) I think this is actually pretty decent, I didn't realize how much animation I had done. I really want to do more this year and fully finish animations with some kind of plot to them.
I'm on a new computer that can render things better, I'm trying new art programs, and I got a drawing tablet. I'm focusing more on experimenting again, working out a style because I really like the sketchy look and line width variation I can get on a tablet and seeing if I can bring that to animation. I want to mess with colored line art again but now also more line variation to fade out the line art further away into a lineless style and just blend different things together to get a more interesting look. I think I have a solid base down for bringing and blending different kinds of animation together and I'm just stylizing it now.
Anyway this style is for animations with backgrounds, particularly larger projects with multiple shots (maybe an animated series yeehaw) I'll still be using my old style.
There are a lot of things I'm looking forward to with this style. I suck at drawing vehicles and at angles and doing multiple angles for an animation would be so tedious and probably turn out terrible, but in 3D I'd just have to model it once, then I could zoom it around as much as I want. Also I can reuse things so over time animating will get faster, especially in an animated series where characters will return to the same locations, where I'd just quickly render more angles for shots instead of having to draw more or reusing the same images.
As much as it's been on hiatus recently maybe I will finally get to animating my dumb furry paranormal horror series, it will be a while though because I want to practice this with this style more to see if there's anything else I want to change, get an idea of what I'll be capable of, then I need to write out scripts based on what I'll be able to animate.
Programs:
Blender - 3D
FireAlpaca - 2D
BeepBox - music/ambience
DaVinci Resolve - video editing
This year I really want to get into doing some complete animations with some kind of story or point to them. Probably more full color and with backgrounds. There's definitely a lot of issues in this one, several animation errors, but I'm just getting back into things after years of not really animating much besides small gifs and quick sketch animations.
I recently got verified so I can add custom thumbnails and finally present animations well instead of worrying every autogenerated frame is going to be an awkward inbetween or during a fade transition. Not sure what I'll do about titles, might keep them short or rework my style. I was hesitant with this one because I didn't want to get yeeted if I put something like eco Terraria is m. I might have to change the current one if the algorithm picks it up as political and starts recommending my dumb furry art to interesting people.
Animation test, took about two days.
Every single time I animate something with space I always mess it up and forget space is a vaccum. I've already drawn characters talking to each other with hand held radios outside of the space suits when they wouldn't be able to actually hear each other, then this time I animated Doxiie slowing down when she should have remained at a constant speed because there isn't friction or anything slowing her down. This was just animation practice though so not super important it's realistic, but if I animate something serious with space later on, I do actually want to keep stuff in mind and this isn't the first time I overlooked the detail.

This OC MAP was opened on December 20, 2020, hosted by Auvexie, beginners were welcome, and it was completed on December 28, 2021. Thank you to all the artists and animators that contributed animations to make this video possible!
I made the song myself in BeepBox: beepbox.co/#7n31sbk0l00e0gt2Gm0a7g0gj7i0r1o3210T1v0u30q1d5f9y1z7C1c0A9F4B0V1Q19e4Pb631E0067T1v0ue0q3d5fay3z8C0c0A1F4B3VbQ217cPe433E0a81T1v0u18q1d2fay0z1C0c0A0F0B0V1Q0000Pf600E0711T3v2u03q1d5f8y4ziC0S-IqiiHiikGiiiyibgicz8Q4z8Q40004x8id18000000h4h4h0000004i8h0000p22AKrFYuMWx0XCzYP2eyG8WGEzGGyegHieGG8W9EzECyfpm4tlkhRlh7hd4tUqh7ld4tlkhQjh7PdSXd2CWvap3j0kQv97ghQ4t17ltjjjjjjG8W2ewzE8WWqqqqqqg0auY2Zd6jhjhAjhejhjhAjEB9uiCL9S9EDpStyg0

Manual tweening is stuff I moved around by hand before saving as pngs, then the pngs don't have any video editing applied, they're just played like a slideshow. Video editing are things I edited inside the video software I use, Corel. Corel's editing messed up in rendering, you can especially see it around the blue part where I applied a shake effect to the background, but it lagged so it appeared still then suddenly shook a lot more than I was going for (I was going for smooth movement like ocean waves). The video pan with the mouse moving around the screen also messed up and it jumps a bit. I added an edited frame to look like a glitched screen so it would seem like the video pan glitching was intentional, but it wasn't actually.
Corel made the audio sound like it was recorded in a toilet bowl so I had to add the audio in Windows Video Editor, which turned the video orange (the second half was red, not orange), but at least it sounds better.
0:00 - 2020 animation
0:16 - 2018 animation
The first episode has gone through a lot of variations as I've tried to figure out a good balance of making it interesting as well as properly introducing the series and concepts.
If you don't mind spoilers, I am looking for people to help and give me critiques on the current version of the first episode (script, dialogue, clothing designs, background designs, etc.). Dialogue especially is going to be difficult with how much I want to convey, and clothing might be weird since they're dogs/cats/wolves that can walk on two and four legs, so some designs might need to work as both animal clothing and human clothing.
I want to hurry up and post this so I can work on other stuff so here's a paragraph out of what I wrote before I went to sleep.
I think I did pretty well with this animation. It's subtle but I did add some effects on the last scene, like how the color palette slightly shifts with atmospheric perspective (not just background, but character too). I did rush things a bit towards the end and not redo things like the second character or audio because I wanted to finish it tonight. I have a lot of things I want to do with animation so I have to keep moving.
Last animation of 2020 I guess (or at least last upload for 2020, I'll probably start a new video right after but I don't think I'll upload anything in the next few days, I do have stuff I could, but they're such short clips I'll likely put them into a compilation rather than upload them individually).
I made a storyboard for this last night and despite considering adding more or making changes, I ended up sticking with it (every drawing was sketched in the storyboard). Editing this was interesting. I knew I wanted the screens to turn on as the camera panned out with some film grain effects so I had to layer everything carefully (I rendered the video 14 times to get to this final version). There's a level of problem solving that goes into editing, you have to think about what you want and what you can do to make it look like that, especially if you only have a few basic tools to work with. Fancy programs will make things faster, but you can still accomplish a lot by combining basic tools, it just takes more creativity and time. You shouldn't feel disheartened over not having the best programs, though it is conceited for people who do have access to expensive software to disregard they have a serious advantage over others and blame others' work ethics and "you just aren't trying as hard as I am" or "I'm just better at art than you" to why others' work isn't as good as theirs. I know after years of searching for free programs I've found some really nice stuff, so hopefully in 2021 I'll be able to share some and maybe make a few tutorials.
If you're interested in the contents of the animation, I based it off a song (though this clip is a pretty rough interpretation). I would have done an AMV or PMV if it weren't for DMCA, but jokes on them, I was already worried about YouTube long before the new law so I've been preparing for months to get rid of copyrighted songs, I even made this youtu.be/QTNG1C7EnAU to show all of you how to replace audio so you won't need to delete videos completely. I also made sure the animation map I opened a week ago didn't have a song that would get claimed so I wouldn't have to worry about changing or muting it later.
OC Map, beginners are welcome!
Deadline: finish parts within 30 days of getting them. (You may ask for extensions).
Rules:
-You can take up to four parts, preferably consecutively.
-OCs only, no fandom characters (parts do not need characters, they can be scenery/abstract).
-I may make adjustments to your part for the map to be more cohesive (video transitions, color adjustments, possibly even moved to a different time in the map, etc.).
-Don't add a watermark, I will for you. If you use something with an automatic watermark (ex: Flipaclip) I’ll try to edit it out for you.
-Ask questions if you have any, I can help you with your part, and (optional) please provide a way to contact you (DeviantArt, Discord, or ToyHou.se) because YouTube notifications are not always reliable.

The real hocus bogus is YT's autogenerated thumbnails. I rerendered this video with different timing because the first set of thumbnails were so bad and out of the six thumbnails I got: 2 (two) black screens, 3 (THREE) of the exact same frame from the hat flip, one frame that only appeared once for less than a second somehow got three thumbnails, keep in mind, in only two generation attempts (there were two duplicate thumbnails right next to each other in the second attempt). The one I chose, the best thumbnail out of six, is half faded into a black screen and has some blurring.
I was considering rotoscoping this with a 3D model but ended up just drawing everything from scratch. The hat flip particularly would have worked so well rotoscoped, but eh, it was good practice for future projects even if this one didn't look that good. The top hat had a relatively simple 3D shape that was easy to draw and understand and see if I was animating it like a three dimensional object (the proportions warped a lot but I still think it was pretty good). My art style isn't the most clear three dimensionally, especially in the face (eyes are spherical and go inside the skull but sometimes I'll draw them like they're flat stickers or not even fully attached to the face). It's nice stylistically, as I learn how to draw in a three dimensional space I'll learn how to make it look more 3D, but it's definitely not the thing to learn and practice with.
First clip I sketched out in less than a day, maybe a few hours, but it took so long to line it, even with reusing some of the sketch lines in finished line art. Background was quick, I reused the one image for each clip. Second and third clip didn't take too long (I think third was faster just because I didn't sketch then line, I made the sketch as clean as I could then colored that, line art is really time consuming). Fourth one took a while to figure out the pose. End frame, you know, just testing out how stuff looks and trying to make a cool looking credits thing even though this video is so short and simple it doesn't deserve one.
Anyway this description took like fifty minutes to type because I kept getting distracted. Here's a cool text emoji I found in Windows 10 built in emoji keyboard ('windows key + period' if you want to try using it).
_(:з)∠)_
This is very chaotic and I despise that there are good animations right next to cringe ones because the good ones make me want to share this video with more people but the bad ones make me want to not.
About individual clips:
First one with hat - Did that today, absolutely plan to finish it, you can find out more about it later.
Second with red - Was for one idea I didn't continue, though may recycle that animation elsewhere if I can figure out how to sketch around the armature (you know it seems like a good idea that will make everything way faster to sketch, but figuring out how to add form then trying to keep it consistent each frame is a whole new step).
Third and fourth with sticks - Random sketches, practicing poses
Fifth with grabbing hand - Tried some cool stuff with perspective, got some really strong emotions to come across (unlike most my art with blank stares and empty basic happy expressions).
Sixth - Noodle noodle noodle noodle
Everything after is Pi is Fine. Ghost stuff from short animation idea, not sure how much I'll end up putting into animating it but even if I give up on it, at the very least I'll share the script I wrote. Older stuff was originally part of the first and second episode, but unfortunately still not settled on a first episode and likely going to change it up again. Parts of the story were set in stone from the beginning, and characters I've developed over time, but a few key things are undecided (I've planned to make a video discussing it for a long time, past few months especially, but maybe I'll get around to it soon, who knows).
Does anyone read descriptions? Let me know if you do, maybe I'll draw you something.
Here's my dog again, he runs from the monster.
There's a lot more I haven't shared but much of it's incomplete or would spoil things. It's difficult to figure out what to share now and what to keep a surprise.
I plan on adding lighting plus a light switch in main room + bathroom. The painting hung on the wall (white with horizontal gray line) will have the image switched out if I end up keeping it (TV too since it's just blank white now). Might add a stuffed animal on the bunk bed. The three chairs around the table are currently pulled out (mostly to make sure they actually fit in the space) but they'd be pushed in normally. The characters aren't super materialistic so not a ton of stuff, and there's a fair amount of drawers to keep things organized.
I did use a character model as reference for how big things should be but model was way too short (I ran around with it and it fit on the bottom bunk of the bed fully standing up) and didn't match the proportions of the characters. Some things I was able to keep that in mind and make closer to accurate, other things not so much and closer to the model, in combo with focusing on modeling one thing at a time gave some really funky proportions at first, like the microwave and stove being the same size. It should be mostly fixed now but considering I was able to miss such a discrepancy for two days, there's probably some things in here that are still a bit off and I haven't realized yet.
There was more but the animation was poorly planned and just looked off so I removed it completely. Hopefully next time I'll plan things out better.
