While going over the High Level bridge the sun was setting. I couldn’t get my phone out fast enough, so we turned around to get the video. Which was better because the sun had moved to right at the horizon line. Beautiful!

Today I thought it would be fun to revisit this technique and add as many waves as possible! This has always been a fun technique…especially when you just feel like melting a lot of glass….I love to watch it move! 😅 This pattern lends itself well with a longer thinner bead, helping to squeeze in all of the waves. All in all it is a very simple process! Then noticed the lantern fly. She grabbed her phone, propped it up against a flower pot and hit the record button.It took the mantis just over fifteen minutes to eat the lantern fly.

And after much research, I have this demo to share with you all! ✨ Dating back 2000 BC, the Tibetans valued these beads for their spiritual benefits and most importantly, protection from the evil eye.🧿 True Dzi beads are made out of agate, but there is still much speculation on how the patterns were actually created. 🧐 Dzi bead is like Kryptonite to the evil eye!…good to know!! 😂This is also a large bead…about three inches long. Scottwood Research 2025-09-10 | In this roll, number seven, we see the ‘team’ waiting on the tarmac of an, as of yet, unidentified air base. They are ready to board the plane on what I am assuming to be a trip to England, because the roll ends with a stroll around Buckingham Palace. Robin and I were amazed, while looking at the pictures, by the lack of people. It seems to be the middle of the day. There are monuments, the Palace, and open streets. And yet there is almost no one around.

It comes in medium and fine sizes and is $35 dollars per tube. You get a pretty good amount as you will see in the demo.I ordered one of each size to experiment with…they say that encasing the frit is the best way to use it. However, as much as I tried to heat it way out in the flame or encase it with clear, it keeps burning off the Dichro coating.So after hours of experimenting I decided that this frit works great on the surface! 😆😂🌹 I will continue working with this frit and keep you updated! The combination I’m using is an equal mix of Iris Gold, Iris Blue and Iris Violet medium frit. These iris colors are both reactive and reducing. I’m going to play with their reactive qualities in this demo. As you can see from the thumbnail, this mix will give a beautiful array of colors with a ghostly blue effect. The mix can be used in a variety of ways, but today I am going to make some twisted cane with it.🌹✨Finding colors that react with each other is hit or miss sometimes…Do you have a favorite reactive mix? It has become apparent to me that football may be more than just something the troops did on their off time. Team player photos, new jerseys and the helmets are no longer leather. I’m beginning to wonder if this soldier may be part of an army exhibition team. Hopefully the next rolls will define more of this soldier’s, and his buddy’s, story.
Lampworking / Flameworking - 102.46 - Mica - 104 Glass Demo Scottwood Research 2025-08-09 | Hello my Friends! 👋🏽🌹 After playing around with the luster powders and flakes, I had several comments about using Mica. In the ‘Lost Episode - Luster Powders’, the powder base is actually crushed mica, with a titanium dioxide or an iron oxide coating. In this demo I will be using an actual piece of mica that I’ve had for ages! I like the variety of particle size the natural stone gives. Mica is a group of silicate minerals characterized by their perfect basal cleavage, allowing them to be split into thin, flexible sheets. Lampworking / Flameworking - 102.44 - Core Form Vessels - 104 Glass Demo Scottwood Research 2025-07-26 | Hello All! 🥰👋🏽 I have been waiting to share this technique with you all for months…the Core-Formed Vessel! 💫 Core forming is one of the oldest forms of glass vessel making. The museum that I worked at had a huge collection of these ancient vessels and I spent a bit of time researching and learning how to make them. The core, originally made from a mixture of organic matter and clay, is hand formed onto a metal rod and left to dry. The molten glass is then applied.Today I find that fine steel wool and bead release works just as good!This is a 3 part demonstration, beginning with the how I make the core then making the vessel and finally how to remove the core and cleaning. They had a pre-season member sale of 40 dollars off. I had been without a tiller for a year. I had been borrowing a friend’s for eight years and had gotten used to it. This was not it. Forgotten History - Found Negatives - US 7th Army - Roll #3 - ‘The Game’ (circa 1950) Scottwood Research 2025-07-10 | This is the third roll of negatives that was found in a box of unrelated lamp working and jewelry supplies. Roll number two began with a “selfie” of the author of these photographs. A soldier of the 7th US Army’s 12th AAA Group. He is pictured in front of a mirror and is shown wearing a football jersey. It was really the only reference to the game. This roll, however, centers primarily around a football game. We are introduced to and will see characters within the unit, trading one uniform for the other. Attended by officers and enlisted personnel, the ‘game’ apparently is an important element of life stationed in what I assume to still be Europe.

These are fun, super easy and take less than 10 minutes to make. Perfect when it’s to hot to do much more!You just need to make sure that you have a pin vise or something to hold the copper wire. I’m using a rod holder but I’m sure there are less cumbersome tools out there!😅 The pattern reminds me of the Conchodial Fractures that you see in obsidian. Forgotten History - Found Negatives - 7th Army - ROLL #2 - Germany (circa 1950) Scottwood Research 2025-06-27 | These are the images from the second roll of negatives I pulled from the box of film tins. There was really no way of knowing when these pictures were taken. So putting them in any chronological order is nearly impossible. But with each roll my interest builds. And with each roll I glean information about this soldier. It’s fascinating to see what he decided to document while being stationed overseas serving in the United States Army.

Forgotten History - Found Negatives - 7th Army - Roll #1 - Germany (circa 1950) Scottwood Research 2025-06-18 | Roll #1Robin had been contacted by a former student who was looking to pare down her lamp working supplies and materials, and was wondering if she would be interested. They arranged a time and Robin went to pick up a few things. Beings how Amy was moving across the country she asked if we would be interested in anything else. Amy had inherited some jewelry making equipment and decided to throw that in with the rest. There were many boxes of jewelry making and lamp working equipment and supplies. While sifting through and organizing what was there, we came across an old box. Cardboard put together with staples. I opened it and immediately recognized what I knew to be 35mm film canisters. Thinking that they would be filled with jewelry making odds and ends, I gave one a shake. There was something in it. They all had something in them. I opened one of them and to my surprise it was, indeed, a roll of 35mm negatives. I unrolled it and, because I’m am interested in history and have seen many documentaries on and about World War II, I saw what looked like a bombed out building in Germany. This is the first roll of negatives that I pulled from the box. I thought maybe if I took photos of the them and reverse the ‘color’ I could see what they are. I did, and the positives were okay, but I thought that they could be better. So I made a photo jig that held the film negatives under glass which made them flatter. I used an application called ArtStudio, and in that app I could invert the color of the image. I then exported it back to my photo album. From there I edited it. Each photo had to be edited for clarity and exposure. Many that were over or under exposed I was able to get a reasonable and somewhat surprising result.From information that I have gathered from looking at the images, the G.I.’s are detached to the 12th Anti Aircraft Artillery Group of the 7th Army, that was inactivated in mid 1946. This could be inaccurate, but I’m fairly sure that this is correct.
Lampworking / Flameworking - Boro Buttons! - Adventures in Boroland Scottwood Research 2025-06-14 | Hi everyone! 🤗🌹 I was originally going to try my hand at buttons with soft glass, however, since I have been using the borosilicate, I thought it would be a good idea to work out all of the kinks first, and then switch into the soft glass. These are perfect for Flameworker‘s of all levels! However, the only tubing that I had on hand is the inside scallop tubing that I use for my holiday ornaments. And of course, I don’t have all the tools I need, but I made do with what I had on hand. 😅This is a very simple hollow bead with large holes…perfect for beginners like me! 🤩✨✨ This is not a demo… but a fun practice piece that I wanted to share my progress on. Tree Pig! Scottwood Research 2025-05-17 | My nephew Chris was at Magee Marsh near Toledo, Ohio. He couldn’t believe what he seeing. A groundhog high up on a tree. Had he told me I probably wouldn’t have believed it. Having seen it, it’s still hard to believe.

It’s a fundamental skill that is important to learn for all of the different patterns, designs and techniques that it encompass. 🤗Today I thought it would be fun to explore Layered or Stacked Dots. Lampworking / Flameworking - 102.37 Deep Cuts - 104 Glass Demo Scottwood Research 2025-03-01 | Hello my friends! 🌹✨ This Deep Cut technique is really beautiful and I love the gentle twist of colors! This is a rather large bead due to the amount of clear glass used to create the illusion of deep cuts. I think there were about 7 layers of clear on this one! 😅 This is a fairly simple technique and a great way to push the depth of color…perfect for focal beads! 😍🌹🌹 I call this one the Watermelon Twist….but trust me when I say that any colors will look amazing with this technique!!✨Thanks so much for joining me! However, I still have a lot to learn when it comes to striking and reducing some of their silver colors. Just for fun and quick to make, these rainbow ‘corrugated’ beads catch the light as well as the eye! (And because it is so cold in the Dungeon I have time to warm my feet up in between the pieces I make. 😅) These beads aren’t meant to be perfect….but moreover a way to play with color combinations and practicing dot placement. All you need is a razor blade tool to make the corrugating lines. Lampworking / Flameworking - 102.35 - Spiral Cane Disk Beads - 104 Glass demo Scottwood Research 2025-01-25 | Hello Everyone! 🤗🌈 It has been pretty cold in the Dungeon lately…and even with my new space heater, it can only get so warm. So making these smaller and ‘quick to make’ beads were the perfect choice to share with you all this week! These are made by building up a disk using several layers of colorful Spiral Cane. Lampworking / Flameworking - 102.34 - Wrap Arounds - 104 Glass demo Scottwood Research 2025-01-18 | Hello my Friends! 🤗🌹 Sometimes it’s nice to just to sit down at the torch and play ….with no expectations of making a masterpiece. 😂These “Wraparound’s” are easy and fun to make. All you need is a base color and some thick stringers….I like to use the ‘pre-made’ stringers for these. I love the way the color forms an organic cage area the bead. However, I’m a little disappointed that they didn’t photograph well ( being all transparent) but they look and feel great in person! There are a few ways to blow shards…adding a blob of glass to the end of a tiny pipe and blowing hard …or building up a hollow chamber on the end of a tiny pipe and softly blowing! 😅 Obviously, the latter one works the easiest and I will share the ins and outs to the best of my ability.I hope this demonstration inspires you to make and enjoy blowing shards!🌹I hope you all enjoy, like and are subscribed!! 🥰👋🏽Thanks so much for joining me! Today I will be working with a new color (to me), Double Helix Clio.
