Heather is a lecturer at the Department of Linguistics where she currently serves as the Graduate Studies Chair. She works closely with Indigenous communities throughout Alberta and BC for her research which focuses on Indigenous language documentation, analysis, and revitalization.

As One of Canada’s first public commemorations of the pandemic, COVID in the House of Old is a poignant multimedia installation. This exhibition acknowledges the thousands of seniors who died in care homes or endured months of isolation, the staff who faced an overwhelming burden of care, and the families and friends unable to visit or help their loved ones.

In this Zoom Webinar, exhibition creator, 2021 SFU Shadbolt Fellow and York University Professor Dr. Megan J. Davies shares from her interviews with long term care residents, family members, and care workers she met while constructing the project. Special guests included Davies collaborators' musician and and composer, Hiroki Tanaka, Kim Fraser, Bernadette and Antoinette Cheung, and BC Senior's Advocate Isobel MacKenzie.

At this event, students met four FIC alumni to learn their tips for success at SFU:
* Shahvir Sarkary: Finished at FIC in Summer 2019. Majoring in Psychology at SFU.
* Anastasiia Lebedenko: Finished at FIC in Summer 2018. Majoring in World Literature and minoring in Humanities at SFU.
* Gokalp Gencer: Finished at FIC in Fall 2018. Majoring in Economics and minoring in International Studies at SFU.
* Ekin Zeynep Buran: Finished at FIC in Fall 2017. Just finished her major in Criminology, minor in Psychology, and certificate in Legal Studies at SFU.

FASS e-Lecture: Systemic Racism and Police Reform - presented by Humanities professor Samir Gandesha
