I visited this location two consecutive Sundays. The first Sunday, July 24, was dead. After the first early morning Southbound, I waited into the afternoon with no results. It was a great time to work on a suntan during those long boring hours. I think I left around 2:00 pm. The next Sunday, July 31, was what I considered a busy morning on the former D&H north of Binghamton. Three trains (oh boy) within six hours was busy.Couple of Conrail Trains, MP 196. This location is approximately 2,500 ft east (north by timetable) of the Sagendorf road crossing at southbound signal 38.2. Traffic volume at this time was low, and many hours of waiting was the norm. A magazine and a sheet to lie on was a must. This was an action packed morning for the CP's D&H. July 2, 1994.1990s Railfan2020-02-18 | A busy day on Conrail's Chicago line just east of Palatine Bridge, NY. I arrived at 6:30 AM and left around 2:00 pm. I missed (on video) a meet with the eastbound Lake Shore LTD and a westbound Conrail freight. It was a tough spot for train detection, with no real audible warning other than the singing welded rails. The last two trains were shot farther west.Selkirk Yard at Night. According to Google maps, this location is in Waverly, NY. I parked near Old Barton Rd and hiked west to the location. Semaphore 2512 was an eastbound signal located on track 2. Approximately 1,000 feet to the west, stood semaphore 2551, a westbound signal on track 1. Conrail, CP, and NYS&W trains pass by. Conrail was in the process of upgrading the line.Hudson Line. This gave them access to the Chicago market for the first time. As a student at WIU from 1988-1992 in Macomb, I witnessed the steady increase in SP traffic over the Brookfield Sub. By 1992, it seemed SP ran more trains than the BN over this line. This is 1994, and the SP has only two years of life left before the UP merger.Amtraks Southwest Chief, Cameron, ILL. The train is minutes off the Hudson Secondary, up from New Jersey. This was a time when catching a NYS&W unit in the lead or in the consist was difficult. This location is just south of Wabash, IN. I had no idea this train was running, a story I'll tell in a future video. This was during a multiple-day trip to photograph Conrail in it's last full year.
