POLYCHROMO by KIRILL OSHEROV & LEAF Kirill Osherov 2026-02-27 | In 2020, I held my first international handpan workshop. It happened in Dahab, Egypt, in a small town located in the east of the Sinai Peninsula, on the shores of the Gulf of Aqaba in the Red Sea. Dahab has become one of those places where people from all over the world come together: businessmen, yogis, divers and ordinary travelers. After the seminar, we went to one of the canyons, in this case a colorful or multicolored canyon. This natural place was very inspiring and I recorded one of my compositions there. A few years later, in Frankfurt, I was lucky to meet Master Zack, the creator of the Leaf handpan brand. I had previously tried playing his instruments and was very inspired by their quality and unique sound. Together, we created an instrument called "Polychromo," which means "multi-colored." (as name as canyon). The name is Greek, because of my love for this language, and this instrument is made in a melodic scale, which, in my opinion, has a very interesting harmony and mood.P.S. Pan⨀polis Handpan Academy Winter edition 2025 Kirill Osherov 2025-12-23 | A summary of the 2025 Winter Handpan Seminar at the PanOpolis Academy. I won't lie, this seminar was special for me; I didn't even leave the mansion we rented 😅. Compared to previous seminars, this one went by so quickly that I only remember getting into the car and then driving back to Moscow. That means there was no time to get distracted, which means it was interesting. Personally, I really enjoyed the music this time; it was exactly the style, the harmony, that I love. This isn't a personal eulogy; yes, I wrote the material for the seminar entirely myself, but we all played it together, so I consider it a team effort. Overall, I really enjoyed the students' performances, regardless of their skill level.This seminar was perhaps the first where I saw some of the students' hard work produce impressive results (one evening we had a concert where anyone could perform). This doesn't mean everyone else is doing badly; on the contrary, it's an incentive to emulate and practice on your own, since the essence of your musical expression lies in your original material.It may sound trite, but I think we're on the right track, since from time to time you need to ask yourself: why, what am I playing for, and so on.I'm also glad that this was the last general seminar, as this format has exhausted its usefulness. WINTER HANDPAN SEMINAR 2024 BY KIRILL OSHEROV Kirill Osherov 2024-12-23 | In December 2024, I held my largest Handpan workshop. For me, every seminar s an incredible event. Indeed, I perceive it as a miracle. People come from all over Russia, as well as from other countries, traveling thousands of kilometers to play Handpan or percussion. 90% of students do this for a hobby, come for inspiration, and some, because they are teachers, come for new material in order to integrate new knowledge into their training programs. I am very pleased that from year to year there are practitioners who begin to perform on stage themselves, really compose high-quality material and acquire their own style. In my opinion, this is the core, the goal and the result of the practice. At this workshop, we created a whole orchestra of different parts, as well as voices. Vocals are the "scariest musical weapon", but they immerse you even more in the moment, increase awareness, focus in practice, and have more fun. In general, our seminars are becoming more and more like meditation retreats. The basis for most of this workshop was an authentic 7 beats rhythm that I heard in Bodhgaya, India, at the Sun Festival in India. Already at 4:30 a.m., the streets were filled with pilgrims from all over the world, all of them simultaneously chanting their mantras and prayers, and also playing rhythms on different drums, in different time signatures. At one point, a procession passed by me, where this particular rhythmic pattern sounded, returning to the hotel and starting to play, the composition developed by itself, then I prescribed several additional voices and rhythms. Иногда хочется отойти от правил или каких то привычных моделей поведения. Не все музыкальные интервалы привычны нашему уху, но что же делать с теми, которые вызывают диссонанс? Наверное тоже пробовать и экспериментировать. Пока работал над этим эскизом - не чувствовал дискомфорта или тревожных состояний, скорее наоборот было интересно по новому услышать любимые инструменты 😌 “Tension” is a small sketch on two handpans.
