Here's my cover. Don't pay too much attention to the stock images I put behind the music. In fact: better close your eyes and imagine what you will.
Now we know that the fragment Austin gave us to play with is a theme out of the soundtrack for a videogame called "Erica". He was also kind enough to share his fully orchestrated version and that's... something else.

And in English. When I published "Giulio Coniglio e la Luna" in the now remote Dicembre 2015, never would I have expected it to reach 100 views. The fact that the video has now reached 1777 views makes me really happy because it makes me feel I've done something good for many parents and kids.
Since then, though, a lot of time has passed: my own kid has grown up and has stopped asking the reading of her old classics. Still, months ago I thought that the time had come to pay another homage to the work of Mrs. Costa, who, I hope, won't be mad if I borrow again her drawings and her words, some sort of good bye for that period of my life, now over. I wrote the music really quickly but I struggled to find the time to orchestrate it and record the voice over. Finally, it's done. And it's for you all.

Please, rememeber: this video is not to make me rich or famous. What I earn from this work is sleepless nights because only at night time do I find the time to work on my music... and at my age, sleepless night are very costly... ;-)
Under my fingers the piece took an unexpected turn.

All this time I thought I should try to rescore the clip. Though my health conspired against it, more then two years later, I finally managed to complete the composition and the mix.
My friend, Andrea, the author of the original clip, says he would have liked to music to be more melancholic. Alas, that's all I've got for now in terms of music.
Enjoy!
Dedicato ad Agata.
Parole:
Palloncino blu
Blu, blu, blu
Nel cielo se ne va
Su, su, su
E canticchiando fa
"Lallero-lero-là"
E canticchiando fa
Palloncino blu
Blu, blu, blu
Nel cielo se ne va
Su, su, su
E canticchiando fa
"Lallero-lero-là"
E canticchiando fa
"Trallallero-lero-là"
My dear friend Andrea Peggion shot the video. I wrote the music.
Enjoy a good dose of extreme cuteness.
The music was supposed to be something completely different but as I was arranging a children's song called "Palloncino Blu" for another project, suddenly my fingers started playing a 3:2 polyrythm which I thought was quite cool and unexpected. To my surprise it fit quite well the clip I was struggling to find a proper soundtrack for so I recorded it and today I finally found the energy to mix it.
Guido has probably forgotten all about it, by now...
And then Daniel suddenly left us. At which point I decided to re-purpose the original happy theme and transform it into an elegy by changing the key and the orchestration. Here it is, finally completed.
At 0:23, the Minnowbrook Conference Centre, home of countless APL Implementors Meetings, is centre stage.
Once again, I resisted really hard the temptation to let my fingers do the work instead of my ear. The one I chose in the end is the third attempt and it's quite close to my original intention. I should be pleased...
And Guido likes it too!

And in English.
It's rare event for me that a melody should spring to mind spontaneously. This is one of the rare cases where it actually happened. My daughter Agata, who is the natural recipient of this kind of work, liked it straight-away.

I don't intend to make money out of this, only to soothe and inspire my daughter.
And in English. For 2016's International Holocaust Remembrance Day, my brother's wife (professor Giuditta Colombo) published on her Facebook timeline a video in which she performs the Theme From "Schindler's List" (music by John Williams) on violin solo.
Many months later, that is, a couple of weeks ago, I decided that it would make a good exercise to try and put back the orchestra under her solo. And so I tried.
The original quality of the video and of the audio track were really low. The new video's resolution is super-high only to give more bandwidth to the soundtrack: its visual quality remains low.
The exercise proved something that I keep forgetting: mocking up an orchestra with the aim of being as realistic as possible is hard, really hard.
And in English:
Another homage to the music written by one of my heroes, John Williams, for one of the unforgettable movies of my youth. This time, I take on Leia's theme. Originally I'd intended to give it to a solo bass. But I failed...
The arrangement is mine: I hope to have done no big harm to the original.

And in English.
I hope nobody gets upset if I publish a copyrighted book whose rights I do not own... The first time seems to have been smooth sailing (at least so far). So, I am trying again!
"Ninna Nanna per una Pecorella" is another one of the books my daughter adores. The first few times I've only heard it narrated by my wife without even seeing the drawings. Nevertheless the story, sweet and warm, had left me a nice feeling.
More recently the seed of a musical idea had sprouted in my head, slightly more than an impression. But enough to have me feed it and one day sit at the keyboard. In a few hours I wrote all the music.
The orchestration and the recording of the voice have been once again a major pain and they took away quite a few hours of sleep.
Music is just a hobby for me and the only purpose of this work is to as a gift to my daughter and I will not make money or use it for self promotion in any way.

And in English.
I hope nobody gets upset if I publish a copyrighted book whose rights I do not own. My daughter has always loved the booklet, so one Sunday morning I thought it would be nice to turn it into a music video. I started to compose and after two weeks of sleepless nights I completed the music to be mounted behind the pages I took pictures of, pages that my daughter has consumed, reading after reading. The music is just a hobby for me and the only purpose of this work is to make a surprise gift to my daughter and I will not make money or use it for self promotion in any way.

... Good night, Agata!
MERRY CHRISTMAS!
One evening, quite late, I switched off the lights in the living room after tidying it up, and was taken in by the calm evoked by the blinking light of our Christmas tree. On a whim, I decided to record on my cellphone an entire cycle of the various patterns. Proof that I was tired: I made the silly mistake of shooting in vertical!
Nevertheless, that same night, I thought that maybe I could put some original music behind the clip.
The original inspiration proved to hard to be developed at my current skill level, so, instead, I went for something a less ambitious. Several sleepless night later, vaguely (OK, maybe if I hand't told you you wouldn't have known) reminiscent of Danny Elfman's work, here is Christmas Tree 2015.
Please, watch it in HD if you can, because the music sounds better that way...
My first attempt at composing a waltz in the classic style.
Enjoy it in HD if you can.
The orchestration could be improved in many ways but it's time to move on. Watch in HD for best quality.
To my good friend Morten, the rider in the video.
I am back to my old average: one month of work for one minute of music. I guess that if I lived of music I'd be starved already...
This was supposed to be an easy warm-up exercise to prepare for a much hard challenge I took on... Ah well...
If the sound is bad it's because... I can't mix! :-( But this minute of music has become an obsession: I must get over it and move on. So, sorry about that.
A hints: watching the clip in HD with my audio monitors makes it sound much better :-)
Another timelapse, another original soundtrack. Watch it in HD: the video cannot improve (the original was low-res), but the music does!
Da guardare in 1080p!
A wonderful timelapse that I dared put music on. The melody is composed of fragments of a traditional celtic song. Harmony and arrangement are mine, completely original. Watch it in 1080p!
It's been a very long time since I wrote and produced some music... You could say it's a side effect of my new life... I got the sequence as an HD video clip directly from YouTube. I tried to experiment to make the transitions less abrupt. But then I decided it was better this way. The concept of the soundtrack is the passing of time combined with the clearing of the sky. Hence the ticking watch. And the ticking is synchronised (60 BPM) with the frequency of the shots while the track beats at 80 BPM (1.5 the frequency).
