Grafters MediaHigh octane drama awaits! A documentary with a satirical vibe about my friend Connor, who road cycles and once fell off his bike and bust his wrist.
Shot in County Antrim, Northern Ireland on an iPhone 6s using the Filmic Pro iOS app for the 2016 "Tangerine Dreams" contest.
A very interesting experiment in shooting cinematic footage with an iPhone. For support we shot either handheld or using a Zhiyun Z1 Smooth gimbal on the end of a boom pole.

The idea is partly a cheeky nod to the fact that the brand (under original owners) effectively “died” in 2017 as it went into administration.
It was brought back from the dead by the new Northern Ireland based owner at the start of this year.
It was a 5am start to travel to location, 2hrs in makeup for the lead actor and then shot in two locations using three different camera setups.
Shot the two scenes in reverse, starting with the ending on the promenade to catch the morning light.
Had planned to shoot at sunrise but it was -2oC and the grass was frozen white. About an hour after sunrise the frost melted and it looked like a summers day.
We scared the wits out of two ladies walking past who thought our zombie was a real cyclist who had just been involved in a horrible accident.Mango Bikes - Live AgainGrafters Media2018-03-22 | Mango Bikes is an urban bike brand from Northern Ireland. I made this promo film for them as part of a brand building exercise after the company was revived by new owners.
As well as celebrating the joy of cycling, it’s a cheeky reference to the fact that the Mango bikes brand nearly ceased to exist in 2017 after going into admistration. Current owner Andrew Hassard brought the brand back from the dead after buying it from the administrator.Grafters Food & Drink Showreel 2018Grafters Media2018-01-26 | Our mouth watering food and drink showreel, showing off some of the best food and drink in Northern Ireland and Ireland.

This is our third Christmas film for Ballymena and our first commercial usage of stop-motion animation. The animation is made up of over 5,500 individual photographs captured using a Sony A6500 and Dragonframe Stop-motion animation software.
This was a huge amount of work, with research starting back in June 2017.
Can you spot all the references and homages to:
- Wallace and Gromit - Red Dwarf - 2001 A Space Odyssey - Star Wars - Star Trek - E.T. the Extra-Terrestrial - Guardians of the Galaxy - Stranger Things - Pingu - Morph - The fidget spinner craze of 2017
Some interesting facts about production:
- Took over 250 hours to pose and photograph the characters to animate them.
- We used real leaves on the crash site site, resulting in live insects running around the set.
- Over 100 hot glue sticks were used to build the ship
- There were three different versions of the ship built, the biggest is 3ft long.
- We used partial sets and blue screen to composite the characters into background plates of real scenes. We couldn't use green screen as the Martian is green and would disappear.
- The two puppets took 6 solid weeks to build from scratch as nearly every step required acquiring new skills.
- The puppets are made from over 12 materials: cast resin, foam rubber, silicone rubber, polymer clay, aluminium plate, aluminium wire, plastercine, copper, brass, milliput putty, rare earth magnets, epoxy resin and paint.
- The characters were first sculpted in clay, broken down into components, moulds made from silicone and then final parts cast from plastic, rubber and foam rubber.
- The Martian is 19cm (7.5inches) tall. and the Pigeon is 28cm (11 inches) tall.
- Three people were involved at various stages of production.

Here are our top 5 reasons that you should be using online video marketing in 2017.
1. The combination of images, sound, music, special effects and speech has the power to communicate information and ideas unlike any other form of media.
2. It allows you to show, rather than tell. People trust their own instincts more than they will trust what someone tells them. That trust is what you need to make a new customer, be that trust in you or trust in your product. Text can be used to tell someone how great a product or service is and photographs can back this up. But only video has the power to demonstrate something properly, to show it as it really is.
3. SEO Benefits. Websites with video have a 53 times higher likelihood of appearing on the first results page on Google.
4. It’s cheaper and more effective than TV advertising. Putting an advert on TV is incredibly expensive and you have no idea who is actually watching it. Promoting your video online can be a fraction of the cost, and you can target your demographic much easier than with TV.
5. Last but not least, with video content, if you get it right it’s possible to go viral and have your video seen by thousands of people.Neurovalens - Exhibition stand filmGrafters Media2017-03-14 | We created this film for Neurovalens to use at the Arab Health Exhibition & Congress in Dubai.
