CD 2 kicks off with a stunning line up of pure Pop gold from Kylie Minogue with her debut ‘I Should Be So Lucky’, along with Bananarama, Rick Astley, Jason Donovan, Bros and The Timelords. Huge Dance tunes follow, including the #1s from S'Express (‘Theme From S-Express’), and Yazz & The Plastic Population (‘The Only Way Is Up’), and floor-fillers from Inner City and Womack & Womack, plus U.S. Power Pop from Jane Wiedlin, The Beach Boys, The Bangles, and a huge ballad from Gloria Estefan and Miami Sound Machine, before the disc comes to a close with one of Elton John’s most loved classics; ‘Candle In The Wind’ - a hit again in 1988 as a live recording.

CD1 showcases genre-defining bands and kicks off with New Order’s sublime ‘Thieves Like Us’, Eurythmics stunning ‘Beethoven (I Love To Listen To)’ and Joy Division’s era defining ‘Love Will Tear Us Apart’. Post-Punk New Wave exploded on to the charts, and The Associates, The Jam, Echo And The Bunnymen, Pretenders, and Siouxsie’s side project The Creatures are all included. The U.S. Alt scene provided R.E.M., Pixies, The Psychedelic Furs, and the David Bowie co-write ‘Shades’ from Iggy Pop. Plus, some of the best written Pop songs ever, represented here by David Sylvian, Marc Almond, Aztec Camera, Pete Wylie & The Mighty WAH!, The Adventures, Tom Robinson, and the Elvis Costello co-write ‘Shipbuilding’, beautifully realised by Robert Wyatt.

The (still) incredible ‘O Superman’ from Laurie Anderson opens the second disc, along with other synth-based classics from Yello, Propaganda, Midge Ure & Mick Karn, Japan, Electronic and a brilliant single from Japanese band Sandii & The Sunsetz. DEVO produced the defining U.S. New Wave smash with ‘Whip It’, and fantastic unique hits from Scarlet Fantastic, Split Enz, Our Daughter’s Wedding, Anne Pigalle and ‘Flowers’ by Zaine Griff (featuring Kate Bush on backing vocals) are all included.

The epic ‘This Corrosion’ from Sisters Of Mercy starts CD3 in grandiose style – and is followed with atmospheric masterpieces from Siouxsie And The Banshees, Bauhaus, The Cure and a second appearance from Joy Division – before some late-80s Alternative essentials, including Bjork’s band The Sugarcubes, Act, The Mission, All About Eve, The Cult’s ‘Edie (Ciao Baby)’, ‘This Is England’ from The Clash, and The Fall’s version of ‘There’s A Ghost In My House’, before closing with two more great examples of U.S. Alt Pop from The Go-Go’s, and The Waitresses.

Opening with the song that launched one of the defining bands of the era, The Smiths, with ‘Hand In Glove’ the final CD features a stellar line up of 80s Alternative Chart hits – The Icicle Works, It’s Immaterial, B-Movie, Kissing The Pink and Gang Of Four are all featured with timeless singles… Altered Images, Toyah and Adam & The Ants would go on to find huge mainstream success in the early ‘80s – and we celebrate these artists with their earlier singles. Big Audio Dynamite, Julian Cope and XTC are also included before the collection draws to a close with Latin Quarter’s ‘Radio Africa’ – and Scritti Politti’s 1981 single ‘The “Sweetest Girl”’.

Opening with two stellar #1s, ‘A Different Corner’ from George Michael and ‘The Sun Always Shines On T.V.’ from a-ha, before leading into huge hits from Duran Duran (‘Notorious’), Kate Bush (‘Hounds Of Love’) and ‘Thorn In My Side’ from Eurythmics. A top year for pure Pop magic is showcased in the next run of hits, including the #1 from Falco, plus Level 42, Kim Wilde, Nick Kamen, Owen Paul, and The Bangles, before timeless radio friendly Pop from the Pretenders, and the lead single from one of the year’s biggest albums (‘Graceland’) from Paul Simon with ‘You Can Call Me Al’. Reggae-Pop from UB40 and another #1 from Boris Gardiner give way to two of the year’s most enduring ballads from Simply Red and Spandau Ballet.

The second disc is all about Pop-Dance energy – kicking off with Wham!’s final hit and #1 ‘The Edge Of Heaven’ and 1986’s biggest seller ‘Don’t Leave Me This Way’ from The Communards with Sarah Jane Morris. Bananarama scored a huge hit (and a US #1) with ‘Venus’, and Stock Aitken & Waterman achieved a further huge hit with Mel & Kim’s debut ‘Showing Out…’

Sophisticated Pop gems from Debbie Harry, Belouis Some, The Blow Monkeys and the sublime ‘Breakout’ from Swing Out Sister lead into a fabulous run of Soul and Dance floor-fillers from Aretha Franklin, Gwen Guthrie, Cameo, Jermaine Stewart, Whitney Houston’s ‘How Will I Know’, and closes with Lionel Richie’s international smash ‘Dancing On The Ceiling’.

Alternative Pop takes the spotlight on Disc three with 1986 a vintage year for the sheer diversity of its chart music. The Smiths peerless ‘Panic’ opens, followed by Frankie Goes To Hollywood and Sigue Sigue Sputnik, with the disc also featuring New Order, Furniture, Public Image Limited, It’s Immaterial, and Big Audio Dynamite. Landmark hits from Talk Talk, Simple Minds and The Psychedelic Furs re-version of ‘Pretty In Pink’ were among the year’s highlights of Alt-Rock, and Red Box, Culture Club, Howard Jones, and well-chosen covers from The Damned and Doctor & The Medics with their #1 take on ‘Spirit In The Sky’ produced yet more classic Pop.

The final disc starts in epic cinematic style with the iconic #1 ‘Take My Breath Away’ (taken from the film ‘Top Gun’) by Berlin, with huge global Rock smashes from Bon Jovi and a #1 from Europe, plus one of the best ever collaborations between Run DMC and Aerosmith on ‘Walk This Way’. Robert Palmer’s ‘Addicted To Love’ would become a timeless radio staple, and the year saw new hits from Tina Turner, The Rolling Stones, a new version of a classic from The Police, and a huge hit for Status Quo with ‘In The Army Now’. #1 ballads from Chris De Burgh and Nick Berry are joined by a #1 re-release from Jackie Wilson, and another movie theme going to the top – this time from Billy Ocean with ‘When The Going Gets Tough…’ from ‘The Jewel Of The Nile’.

NOW Music proudly present ‘NOW Dance – The 80s’; a selection of 48 tracks that appeared on those three original ‘NOW Dance’ albums - all in their 12”, extended or remixed versions.

From the first (1985) ‘NOW Dance’ release – Philip Bailey and Phil Collins’ #1 smash ‘Easy Lover’ kicks off the album, with The Power Station, Eurythmics, Stephen Tin Tin Duffy, and Belouis Some following. Less compiled cuts from Eddy And The Soulband and Mahogany, Lillo Thomas, and T.C. Curtis are up next, along with huge chart and club hits from Loose Ends, Cool Notes, Jermaine Jackson, and the #1 ‘Move Closer’ from Phyllis Nelson. Two 80s classics from Ashford and Simpson (‘Solid’) and DeBarge (‘Rhythm Of The Night’) feature, before making way for a stellar line-up from the next ‘NOW Dance’ - from 1986.

Massive club and Dance tracks that crossed over to become equally big chart hits from 1986 include ‘Ain’t Nothin’ Goin’ On But The Rent’ from Gwen Guthrie, ‘(You Are My) All And All’ from Joyce Sims , and ‘Mine All Mine’ from Ca$hflow, plus floor-fillers from Aretha Franklin, Midnight Star, Timex Social Club, Grace Jones, and Jaki Graham, and slick Dance-Pop from Five Star – with our second disc finishing on another #1, ‘I Want To Wake Up With You’ from Boris Gardiner. Our third disc continues the run of 1986 Dance gold opening with the year’s biggest hit, the #1 ‘Don’t Leave Me This Way’ from The Communards with Sarah Jane Morris, alongside the hottest dancefloor hits from Jermaine Stewart, Bronski Beat, Sinitta, Phil Fearon and Galaxy, Paul Hardcastle, a remixed Disco favourite from Tavares, and ‘Holiday Rap’ - a huge summer hit from MC Miker G. and DJ Sven saluting a classic.

Fine Young Cannibals open the run of tracks from 1989’s third volume of ‘NOW Dance: The 12” Mixes’, with Double Trouble feat. Rebel MC, Tone-Loc, and the classic Soul of ‘Joy And Pain’ from Maze and Frankie Beverly completing our third disc… which leaves 12 slices of 1989’s dancefloor magic for our final disc. The peerless ‘Buffalo Stance’ from Neneh Cherry starts the run that also features Bobby Brown, Inner City, Cookie Crew, The Beatmasters, and D-Mob feat. LRS and DC Sarome. ‘Straight Up’ from Paula Abdul was huge in both the UK and the US, and further smashes from Yazz, Coldcut feat. Lisa Stansfield, Kym Mazelle, and Adeva and Paul Simpson keep the energy up, before we close with the timeless ‘Keep On Movin’’ from Soul II Soul, featuring the sublime vocals of Caron Wheeler.
