It is the 4th largest city in the province of Saskatchewan.Moose Jaw is definitely the most tourist-friendly small city in the province. It has a beautiful and dense downtown core with an impressive collection of well-preserved old heritage buildings. There are numerous options in terms of shopping and dining, and there is a popular casino and spa resort with natural geothermal mineral water pools. Another popular local attraction is The Tunnels of Moose Jaw, a collection of old city tunnels staffed by historical interpreters.There is a strong military influence in the city. It is home to the Saskatchewan Dragoons Reserve as well as 15-Wing Moose Jaw - a RCAF air base, flight training facility and home to the Snowbirds air demonstration squadron.Moose Jaw's notorious reputation is rooted in the supposed connection with the Chicago mob. During prohibition, Moose Jaw was an important hub in the bootlegging industry and it had a direct rail link to Chicago. There is a famous legend of Al Capone being seen in Moose Jaw during prohibition - there is no concrete proof of his supposed presence in the city, but many people claimed to have met him in the city. The legend has only grown over time, and the city leans into this lore.I had limited time in the city, and I didn't do everything I wanted to do. Generally these are events in which 4 or more people are killed or injured, excluding the perpetrator. Canada is not known for it's mass shootings, especially compared to the USA. However, there have been many significant mass shooting events throughout Canadian history. I compiled a list of the 10 deadliest mass shootings in Canada, ranked from number 10 to number 1 in terms of total fatalities. Numbers 10 through 8 each had 6 fatalities, I had to select from a number of events with 6 fatalities (there were more than 3). Jerome, the Legless Man Discovered in Sandy Cove, Nova Scotia in 1863 Strange North 2025-03-01 | #bayoffundy #novascotia In this video I cover the famous Maritime legend of Jerome, the legless man that was discovered on a coastal beach near the community of Sandy Cove, Nova Scotia in 1863.He was discovered on September 8 of 1863 next to a large rock, and both of his legs had been amputated by a skilled surgeon. The stumps were bandaged and only partially healed.The man was suffering from cold and exposure, and beside him were a jug of water and a tin of biscuits. He was mostly unable to speak, and he couldn't read or write. However, when he was asked his name he mumbled something like "Jerome", and so this is what he came to be called.Jerome would spend time with various families in a few different communities around Nova Scotia, and he attracted many curious visitors from around the region. He would eventually pass away in 1912, and his origin story was never known with certainty - although many theories have been offered.The story of Jerome remains a popular legend in the Maritime region of Canada, and it is a Canadian mystery that has always captured my interest.I hope you found this one interesting and informative. The CIA Funded MKULTRA Mind Control Experiments of Montreal - Allan Memorial Institute 1957-1964 Strange North 2025-02-22 | In this video I give an overview of the notorious CIA-funded MKULTRA experiments that took place in Montreal under the leadership of Dr. Donald Ewen Cameron.Dr. Cameron initially developed a method of "psychic driving" to depattern and then repattern a patients' mind. Methods involved patients being subjected to repeated messages, electroshock therapy, sensory deprivation, drug-induced comas, LSD injections, and allegations of physical and sexual abuse.He would start experimenting on patients in Montreal at the Allan Memorial Institute, a psychiatric hospital and research institute affiliated with McGill University. His research would catch the attention of the CIA, and they would fund his experiments from 1957-1964 under front organizations.Dr. Cameron treated hundreds of patients, and many would experience mental deterioration after their treatments. Many experienced retrograde amnesia, and others were reduced to an almost childlike state. Hundreds of people would file lawsuits against the CIA and the Canadian government over this abuse. Some people were compensated, but under strict confidentiality agreements.The MKULTRA project was halted in 1973, and the organization would attempt to destroy or conceal documents and files relating to the program.There is limited information available on the MKULTRA program in Montreal, but what has been revealed is disturbing.I hope you found this one interesting and informative. The North York, Toronto UFO/UAP Sightings July 26, 2014 Strange North 2025-02-09 | #toronto In this video I give an overview/personal opinions on the UFO/UAP sightings in North York, Toronto, Ontario on July 26 of 2014.These sightings took place between approximately 7 pm and 10 pm that evening. They were spotted by multiple people, including several police officers. Toronto Police's 32 Division received numerous calls reporting these lights.Witnesses described a bright flashing singular light as well as a string of several flashing lights in a straight diagonal line above the horizon. Several witnesses took pictures and video and shared them to social media. Sarah Chun's video went viral with over a million views on YouTube.There were also several power outages in the area at the time, something that often occurs in tandem with UFO/UAP appearances.What are your thought of the Toronto lights of 2014? The Legendary St. Louis, Saskatchewan Ghost Light/Ghost Train - Fall 2024 Footage Included Strange North 2024-10-26 | #saskatchewan #ghosttrain In this video I cover the legendary ghost light/ghost train of St. Louis, Saskatchewan.This is a Canadian legend that started about a century ago around the village of St. Louis, which is located about 35 kilometers south of Prince Albert. The story says that a train was stopped on an old CNR line north of the village, and after a railway worker got out of the train he was tragically decapitated by that same train. The railway tracks have since been removed but the old rail bed remains, and ever since then people have claimed to have seen mysterious lights along the old rail path. The lights are said to be caused by the apparitions of both the train itself as well the deceased railway worker.I visited St. Louis earlier this year and I was able to capture some footage of the light, although the quality is pretty bad - I'm looking forward to getting a camera down the road that captures better footage at night!While I was there I was able to talk to some locals about their experiences, and I cover the town of St. Louis a bit in the video. I plan on doing a part 2 video next spring with friends from Saskatoon - we are going to bring a drone and a better quality camera for night filming. It was a warm day and the hospital interior was warm as well. This did not happen anywhere else during my exploration. Overview of Wabamun Lake, Alberta Strange North 2024-08-31 | In this video I give you a brief overview of the area of Wabamun Lake, Alberta.This is the one of the biggest lakes around the Edmonton region and it is located about 65 km west of the city in Parkland County.The lake has an interesting history - it was used for commercial fishing during the early 20th century, it has had major mining and power generation operations surrounding it and it was the site of a major oil spill in 2005.Wabamun has since recovered from this spill and it is a very popular spot for fishing, boating and outdoor activities. Exploring the Historic Strathcona Science Provincial Park in Edmonton, Alberta Strange North 2024-08-28 | In this video I take you through Strathcona Science Provincial Park in Edmonton, Alberta.For thousands of years, this site was used as an annual First Nations camp. It was close to the river and the area had ample natural resources.There were major archaeological excavations on this site from 1978-1980, and this was one of the largest dig sites in Alberta.This area is close to a major industrial region of Edmonton, and to protect this site from industrial development the Alberta government developed it into a protected park.The Strathcona Science Provincial Park officially opened to the public on July 6, 1980. The park originally had 6 octagon-shaped buildings that displayed the archeological discoveries on this site and highlighted the relationship between humans and nature.However, these buildings were all shut down by 1991. They stood abandoned for years, until they were demolished from 2013-2015. Remnants of these science pavilions still remain in the park, and this is an interesting area to walk through.Even though the park no longer has the interpretive buildings, it is still open to the public as a provincial park. It is used for hiking, cross country skiing, tobogganing and mountain biking, there is even a designated area for flying radio-controlled aircraft. On the north end of the park is the Sunridge Ski Area, one of many ski hills in the Edmonton region. Obviously this area is used most heavily in the winter, but it is a neat area to explore in the summer months.I would definitely recommend this park - it's usually not as busy the other major parks in Edmonton and it's an interesting corner of the river valley to explore. Abandoned 1972 Boeing 737 Airplane in Rural Alberta Strange North 2024-08-23 | In this video I visit an abandoned 1972 Boeing 737-275 airplane sitting on a field in rural Alberta.This plane first entered service at Edmonton's City Centre Airport in 1979 with Pacific Western Airlines. This airline merged with Canadian Pacific Airlines and Nordair to form Canadian International Airlines in 1987. This airline was then acquired by Air Canada in 2001.After being in operation in Canada for 26 years, this 737 was retired from Air Canada in 2005. The plane was then displayed for years at the Alberta Aviation Museum in Edmonton. The museum sits beside the site of Edmonton's City Centre Airport, which was officially closed in 2013. The area was set to be redeveloped into a residential area. In July of that year, the museum was informed that it's new property line would not accommodate the 737, and the plane either had to be moved or scrapped.The decision was made to get the plane running again and fly it to the Villeneuve airport, about 35 km to the northwest. After months of preparation, the 737 finally departed for the last time on November 29, 2013. The plane flew to the Villeneuve airport, where it was taxied to a field adjacent to the runway. In 2013 there was a plan to build a new Alberta Flying Heritage Museum at Villeneuve, but this never materialized. She had been living on her own in Montreal, but something happened to her while she was living there shat shook her up severely and she abruptly packed up her belongings and moved back to Quebec City.She went for a walk on the morning of February 17, and never returned. She was recorded at an ATM later that morning and she also stopped at a coffee shop about 25 km from her house later that day. B.C. in the city of Delta. It was later confirmed that this foot matched the foot that was found on Valdes Island on February 8 of that year. 6 - August 1, 2008: A male foot inside a black size 11 runner was found neat Pysht, Washington - not far from the other discoveries along the Salish Sea.7 - November 11, 2008: A female foot inside a left runner was found floating in the Fraser River in Richmond. 8 - October 27, 2009: A male foot inside a white size 8.5 Nike runner was found near the Triangle Beach area of Richmond.9 - August 27, 2010: A woman's or child's foot without a shoe or sock was found on the shore of Whidbey Island in Washington state. 10 - December 5, 2010: A right foot inside a boy's size 6 hiking boot was found on the tidal flats near Tacoma, Washington. 11 - August 30, 2011: A human foot with the lower leg bones attached was found floating next to the Plaza of Nations Marina in False Creek, Vancouver. 12 - November 4, 2011: A male right foot inside a size 12 hiking boot was found by a group of campers in a pool of fresh water at Sasamat Lake near Port Moody. 13 - December 10, 2011: A human foot and leg bone were found wrapped in a plastic bag under the Ship Canal Bridge in Seattle, Washington. 14 - January 26, 2012: Human bones inside a boot were found at the dog park neat the Maritime Museum. 15 - October 2012: A right foot inside a runner was found in False Creek, Vancouver. The Cold War Civil Defence Bunkers of Edmonton, Alberta, Canada Strange North 2024-08-01 | In this video I cover two separate Cold War era civil defence bunkers that were built in the city of Edmonton, Alberta, Canada in the 1950s.The first one was completed in 1952 at 10320 146 street in the residential neighborhood of Grovenor. This would be a large complex with above ground and underground portions. Residents in the neighborhood initially fought against the construction of this facility as they were concerned with the increase in traffic and activity on their previously quiet residential street.The building quickly fell out of use as a bomb shelter as it would be inadequate in effectively protecting people from radiation. This building has been significantly redeveloped over time, and it first housed various government departments and then private companies.The building currently houses Terra Centre, a support service for teen parents in the Edmonton area.Canadian civil defence protocol required more than one command center bunker to be built in case one was disabled.An underground bunker was built in 1953 near 142 street and the MacKenzie Ravine - not far from the building at 10320 146 street. This was a 2600 square foot structure meant to house 36 people for 14 days. It was built deep into the ground, unlike the first defence bunker which was mostly above ground. The main entrance building still stands but has long been locked and fenced off. There is a secondary entrance in the ravine which is still visible but it has been sealed off for many years.Fred Armbruster is the founder and executive director of the Canadian Civil Defence Museum and Archives, and they have a fantastic website which highlights Canada's civil defence history in different provinces - civildefencemuseum.ca. The Montreal UFO of 1990 - Montreal, Quebec, Canada Strange North 2024-07-18 | #montrealmoments #uaps In this video, I cover the famous Montreal UFO sighting of 1990.Here is a link to an excellent video on this case by YouTuber Lelo:youtube.com/watch?v=2eJ838zyiNkThis is one of Canada's most well known sightings and I wanted to cover it on my channel for those who may not have heard of it.On November 7, 1990 a guest in the rooftop pool of Bonaventure Hotel saw a UFO in the sky above the pool. This guest quickly notified lifeguard Line St.-Pierre. who would later produce a sketch of the craft. Line St.-Pierre notified the hotel security officer, who also saw the UFO. She also notified a local newspaper called La Presse. Around the same time, about 1 km away, 2 more men saw a strange light in the sky above downtown Montreal.Back at the hotel, security officer notified the Montreal Urban Community Police and attempted to make contact with the Dorval Airport (the line was busy).After La Presse newspaper was notified by Line St.-Pierre, they sent journalist Marcel Laroche to the hotel. He saw the UFO as well, and he took pictures of the object with his personal camera. His pictures (although relatively unclear) would become key evidence in this case.Another reporter at La Presse, Jules Belliveau, investigated the object at the hotel and confirmed the presence of the UFO.Francois Lippe was the first police office on scene. he saw the object as well, and then notified his superior officer - Sergeant Robert Masson. Mason arrived on scene and clearly saw the UFO. he then notified the RCMP, who sent investigator Luc Morin to the hotel - he confirmed the presence of the object as well. The police on scene contacted the Dorval Airport, the Mirabel Airport, and the St. Hubert military base, and they all claimed that they were not picking up any unusual activity over downtown Montreal.Some people thought that floodlights at a construction site across the street from the hotel could be reflecting off clouds and causing this sighting. But the UFO remained in the sky after police ordered the construction lights to be turned off. Cloud cover increased in the area over time, and by 10:15 PM the UFO could no longer be seen. At this point, the police and reporters left thew hotel.Newspaper articles following the sighting caused widespread interest across Canada. In an article published by La Presse, the RCMP made a statement confirming the legitimacy of the event. One of the 2 men who saw a the strange light over downtown Montreal about 1 km away from the hotel on the night of the sightings was named Bernard Guenette. He was a ufologist who was involved with MUFON, and following the sightings he collaborated with American ufologist (and NASA psychologist) Richard F. Haines to publish a report in spring of 1992 entitled "Details Surrounding a Large Stationary Aerial Object Over Above Montreal". In this paper Haines asserts that there was undoubtedly a large. dense object hovering over the hotel that night - although some people have questioned the conclusions he drew based on his photo analysis.In 2008, Belgian ufologist Wim Van Utrecht posited that these sightings could have been caused by a rare optical phenomenon known as light pillars, although some disagree with this idea.At any rate, this event became known as one of Canada's most well-known UFO sighting. It was commemorated with a $20 silver coin produced by the Royal Canadian mint in 2021 as part of their Canadian unexplained phenomena series. The Bizarre Disappearance and Reappearance of Toronto Firefighter Danny Filippidis in 2018 Strange North 2024-07-11 | #missingpersonsmysteries #missingpersonscases In this video I present the bizarre case of the disappearance and reappearance of Toronto Firefighter captain Constantinos "Danny" Filippidis in 2018.Danny was on an annual ski trip with colleagues at Whiteface Mountain in Lake Placid, NY. On the last day of their trip, Wednesday February 7, 2018, Danny separated from his group to retrieve a camera and never returned. Friends found his car, phone, passport and ID where he had left them at the resort. Danny was reported missing, and pretty soon his friends along with forest rangers, ski patrol and other skiers in the area were searching the mountain for Danny. The next day the search intensified and homeland security officers as well as US border officials and other volunteers were looking for the missing man. Over 100 Toronto firefighters flew in to assist in the search, as did Danny's wife. Helicopters, drones and sniffer dogs were all used in the search, and a scent trail was never found. Over the next 6 days, about 6,000 people were participated in the search for Danny.On the morning of Tuesday, February 13, Danny's wife was meeting with the search party at Lake Placid when she received a call from an unknown number - it was Danny, and he said he was at the Sacramento Airport in California. She told him to immediately call for help, and he called the police. When they arrived at the airport, they found Danny at the car rental terminal wearing the same clothes he went missing in. He had a new iPhone, about $1,000 in cash, and a credit card. Strangely, he also had a fresh haircut.He told police his memory was foggy and that he believed he had suffered a head injury. He said he remembered driving in a big rig style truck and that he slept a lot. He didn't initially remember how he got the phone to call his wife. He was immediately taken to hospital for head trauma, but he was soon discharged because he had no reported signs of trauma.Police said that it did not appear that Danny was impaired by drugs or alcohol. They said it appeared that he had been dropped off in Sacramento the night before he called for help, and that he had slept on the streets near Richards Boulevard along the Interstate 5 corridor. Police would distribute a bulletin with a picture of Danny across the US in the hopes that someone with information on what happened to him would come forward. A couple days later, Danny returned to the Adirondacks in NY for police questioning, and he then returned to work in Toronto.Dr. Charles Tator, a prominent brain surgeon, thinks that Danny may have suffered amnesia as a result of a concussion - but he did note that a period of amnesia following concussion is usually only one or two days.
