I underestimated food, overestimated shortcuts, and burned far more energy than expected pulling gear through fresh snow. A failed bushwhack, heavy snowfall, and poor weight distribution on the toboggan forced multiple reroutes and an unplanned extra night out.This video documents the full arc: setting up camp, starting a fire in the stove, melting snow for water, cooking, hauling gear through deep snow, and adjusting on the go when conditions got tough. I traveled through Quebec, Labrador, Newfoundland, Nova Scotia, and New Brunswick in an epic 5000km round trip starting from Ottawa, Ontario. The entire trip was done in 9 days (7 days filmed) and I used my hot tent to wild camp the entire length of the trip (simply finding empty places of land to pitch a tent). The temperatures varied, leaving Ottawa it was about +20C, and at the coldest, I would say in the middle of Labrador temperatures regularly dropped below freezing. The motorcycle muffs were the MVP of the trip keeping my hands from certain frosty death. While the ride itself isn't particularly hard, and the trans-Labrador is mostly paved now, it is still an incredible trip to do. The landscape and wilderness, particularly in Labrador, were pristine. It felt untouched by people and even wildlife was rare to come by. The people that you do come across are unbelievably friendly. I had pulled over many many times to set up shots and each time if a car passed by they would stop asking if I was OK. If you ever had a breakdown on this ride I am certain you could find someone to lend a hand. With that said, there is hardly any cell service in Labrador and I would not do the trip without a GPS satellite communicator. In terms of a ride report, for anyone looking to do the translab, I would say pay particular attention to the following sections as I felt they were the most enjoyable:- The entire 389 hwy from Quebec to Labrador City. The 389 passing the Eye of Quebec is very scenic. - The eastern shoreline of Labrador, the translab just west of Red Bay is stunning. - Newfoundland: I only spent a few days here and only did the west coast. The northern coastline is quite flat and as you get further south through Gros Morne National Park the landscape becomes more dramatic with mountains and flowing rivers. I didn't check out Tablelands this time but if you like hiking from what I've heard it is a must. - If you go through Nova Scotia riding the Cabot Trail is a must. - Most of the translab is quite desolate and can be flat at times. For many people, they may find this boring. For me, it was maybe the most enjoyable part of the trip as it was so empty (no people, no wildlife really). You can pull over and hear nothing but the sound of your ears ringing from the wind noise lol. The trip is mostly pavement with about 200KM total of gravel roads, about 170KM of them being in Quebec along the 389. There is a short 30KM stretch of gravel from HVGB to Port Hope Simpson that will likely be paved by the end of 2022. Cooking & Coffee on Wood Stove (ASMR Style) Zach Spence 2021-05-02 | Hey folks, I've been doing a fair bit of moto-camping recently and made a few changes in my setup. Changing out the gas stove for a wood stove was something I've wanted to do for a while. I finally had the opportunity to test out a Firebox wood stove and it's definitely a game-changer. Very easy to start a fire, portable, versatile. Another thing I was looking to do was pick up a few knives for splitting wood - the Kershaw Camp 10 and Morakniv Companion. This is one of my first times batoning wood, I like this technique as it allows a safe and accurate way to split wood, which burns better on the stove than using smaller twigs. On long trips I will likely bring the Morakniv and a Silky saw to process firewood, the Kershaw Camp 10 is a nice blade but it's overkill for moto-camping. Hope you enjoy this video. No ADAT or interconnectivity required between the two devices! Simply plug both into your computer - watch to find out how. Note: The ASIO4all drivers on Windows don't have a way to sync audio recordings from different audio interfaces. Be prepared to experience a delay between recording devices.On Mac to correct for the sync issue simply tick off the Drift Correction box and Mac OS should automatically sync the aggregate device to your primary interface (in theory, I haven't tested this). The sync issue on Windows is something I will look into and hopefully be able to cover a solution in a future video. Some of the lifts, such as the deadlift, progressed faster than is shown in the video. I hit a 5 plate pull in October of 2016, and focused my efforts into my bench, and especially my squat, which were lagging behind. This is a one-off video. I had a lot of cable clutter, and unused cables that weren't removed and piled up to create a jungle behind my desk. This also made it difficult to clean, and as you'll see it is pretty dirty where the cables used to sit. I DIY a monitor stand and use some other methods to keep all of the cable management clean, simple, and out of the way. I wrap up the video by installing some RGB LED's to create some mood lighting when working for extended hours. Future modifications include cleaning up the closet space and installing organized storage units for my gear, and maybe adding some more LEDs into the room.
