I am back to teach you how to start a channel on a tight budget, quick tips and tricks on YouTube!Welcome to my Journey of a YouTuber, YouTuber advice series here on Morerrias powered by Emerrias Studios!I am your lovely scientifically capable host Emerrias, a mediocre YouTuber; so you could say I am extra qualified to talk about all things YouTube.Today I give a quick overview of how to start a YouTube channel on a budget!Keep in mind this is not the only way to start a channel, and I have no idea what I am talking about…I want to break this into two different sections:Creating your channelWhat equipment and resources to use when starting ---Creating Your Channel:Every channel has a name which will be the pinnacle of how you brand yourself. I have noticed that in the past, if you were a cooking channel for example, you would call yourself Cooking With Sally but now a days more and more people are using a name or nickname for their channel; Super Sally or SallyPants101 instead. This way if you ever wanted to start making different content you could and don't have to re-brand yourself because everybody knows you as that one cooking video girl/guyHowever, when picking a name, you definitely do not want to spend too much time thinking; get something going fairly quickly because trying to find a name is one of the top reasons people put off starting their channels.Next you want to get a good, "professional" looking channel avatar going. This can be a cool picture of yourself, a logo, or something else that explains your channel properly; just find something that works for now and go with it. Having something is better than nothing and of course you can always go back and update it laterBanners, these are important to attract individuals to explore your channel more after first landing on it. For this there are some great online resources such as Canva to make a quick and easy banner. Just add some text about your upload schedule on a nice background and boom, you have yourself a banner!This leads me into my next point, you want to make yourself a posting schedule to let your audience know when you are posting, and when they should return to your channel. The minimum for this is usually once a week. Some people will do less because they have more intense content, some people do more and if you can do more, definitely do more but do not sacrifice the quality too much; do not try to be perfect but, do not sacrifice quality to push out more content.Now all you need is your first video idea, an introduction video about you and your channel always works beautifully, and boom, you are ready to start production; what should you use to record and edit for YouTube?---Beginning Equipment and Resources to Use:Nothing too much needed here honestly since we are on a tight budget. However, a lot of people just go too extreme and start buying a bunch of pricey equipment or just do not do anything because they fear the investment for a camera, lighting, editing software, etc… Do not fall into this trap, equipment rarely means success on YouTube. In my opinion, the best way to start, and this is how I started, is a simple $18 phone tripod, if that (you could always lean your phone against something) and that is really all you need! Hit record and get going. Then bring those clips to either iMovie if you have a Mac or Lightworks a free editing software for PC. Cut up your video, add some background music if you want from the YouTube audio library and then boom you have your first video!And that is how I started making YouTube videos! So you could say I am extra qualified to talk about this.Today I mainly want to touch on how to get idea for YouTube videos. Now why is it important to have ideas? Well or else you couldn't really make videos… right?Additionally how to evaluate ideas to see if they would do well in the YouTube marketplace and develop them.Now this is just what I have personally been doing so it is by no means the only things you should be doing, there are many other ways to get your ideas...To begin with, for me often times my ideas come at the most inconvenient times for example… I'm in the shower… I have at times literally hopped out of the shower drippy drippy all over the place, super cold, just to write down an idea. The thing with me and you might be the same way is that I personally know that I am going to forget my idea by the time I'm done with whatever I am doing. Another time ideas come is when I am driving, luckily in this case I can use my phone's voice to text feature to take notes, but it has happened sometimes that when I get back I have no idea what the idea was about because my phone did not hear the right words…On the other hand, sometimes when I need a new idea I just lay down and thinky thinky… or take a shower… it sometimes works for ideas to sprout up.Now that you have an idea or two, you need to make sure it works in the video marketplace that is YouTube… to do this, I usually use the search feature on YouTube to see if one, my video title for the idea is in the predictive text output that pops down, and two, what the competition looks like. You do not want something that is dominated by big YouTubers.I also see if my idea and the way I plan on presenting it is true to my brand as a YouTuber. Like I would not go in and make a video that is too political because that is just not my brand.If I am unsure about an idea, I have people that I pass it on to to see what they think. This is also why it is important to find your people which I talked about in the previous Soundcloud post.So now that you have your good idea, you want to start taking some bullet points of what you want the video to be about and then slowly but surely tie those all together with a script.Personally I like to make a word by word script just because if not, I am TERRIBLE at filling in things and on the spot thinking.And that is how I get, evaluate and develop ideas for YouTube videos! It's not easy…Finding your people makes it easier since you have others around you virtually or in reality who are doing the same thing…. Honestly if you have ever felt demotivated doing YouTube, go and find just one guy who is also making videos online…. And they are the reason you make these videos…Like Gary Vee once said, more money more problems, more people's more energy… I leave money in the table a lot just because people are more important a lot of the time...Now how do you meet your people?I realize that meeting others in real life who understand the YouTube grind is tough…. And it's super rare if you don't live in… California I live industrial Texas…. How to Distribute Youtube Video // YouTube Journey Podcast (YouTube Tips & Tricks) Morerrias 2018-05-15 | Oh Hi! Today I will teach you how to distribute your YouTube video in a way that will ensure maximum views across multiple platforms!Welcome to the first segment of the Journey of a YouTuber, YouTuber advice series here on YouTube!I'm your lovely scientifically capable host Emerrias, a YouTuber. So you could say I am extra qualified to talk about this.The main topic I want to touch on in today's post is how to get your videos out there into the BIG WORLD, to find your audience, meet them and show them you dah boss (don't mind the overly enthusiasm…)!Now, a quick disclaimer type of thing, this is just what I have personally been doing so it is by no means the only things you should be doing (at all), there are many other ways to get your content out to the right people!So everything with to do with distribution boils down to finding your people…To start off with, Social Media, specifically: creating native content per the platform. I take my full length YouTube video, extract 10 to 15 seconds of highlights to post this up to Instagram. Boom. Ez pz. Then I add the generic hashtags (ofc) that I use in almost every post (saved in a notes app on my phone) into a new comment under the post (for aesthetic reasons). In addition to the generic hashtags, I add content specific hashtags too. ALWAYS makes sure to max out your hashtags you never know, you could be one hashtag away from someone important finding your content.After the Instagram post, I get something up on my Instagram story. A recording of the one of the best parts of the video playing on your computer, quickly with your phone; and a caption saying new video, link in bio type deal is what I do. Honestly there is definitely much better things I could do with stories, but I am all about getting things up quickly vs perfection.Then I just make sure to reply to all the Instagram comments that come in.Now on Twitter, what I do is I take the same video cut I made for Instagram, and simply pin it to my Twitter page. A lot of people have trouble with Twitter I have noticed because they use it just for pushing out content and tweets. However the thing with Twitter is that it requires constant interaction with others. It is more of a networking platform versus a place to keep on posting content. I will talk about how to use Twitter better another time (once I learn how to use it better myself…).Facebook! Now I must admit, Facebook is the platform I use the least. I do not do much with Facebook just because growth on there is the hardest for me. I have a Facebook fan page, granted I could be doing more, I post up the same thing from Twitter and Instagram onto Facebook. But there is definitely much more potential there that I need to look into, for example you could literally Google how to use Facebook ads to drive traffic and do what I should be doing…Now, in terms of promoting videos on your personal Facebook page, I do this maybe once or twice a year max! Only if I have a really interesting, professional looking video. I know people get a lot of success from using a personal Facebook audience for views but for me I am trying to keep my Facebook wall at least semi-professional since it is all tied back to my real name that future employers may see. I mean, I really do not think they would take me seriously after seeing me drop a cake on my head from 50 feet… So no promo on there yet until we are full time on YouTube!Reddit and other online communities!I have to say this is somewhere where I can also greatly improve my skills, again there is a lot more I could be doing on websites like Reddit.The thing with Reddit and other online communities that takes a little bit of time is finding the right subreddit, or category for your content. My content is all over the place and just me being me, therefore where do I post up my videos? I still really need to develop a plan for Reddit… but hey if you make videos in a certain niche, become well known in that online community by spending a lot of time replying to others consistently on that forum! I will go more in depth on outreach in a future post!A quick segment about what not to do:Just promoting using thumbnails unless it's a super duper good one…Paywall type things, such as ending a video after the first 10 second on Instagram and saying to view full video go on YOUTUBE!
