Project Surya by Divaa Utkarsha 1M1B Future Leaders 2024-02-26 | At just 13 years old, Divaa was inspired by her younger brother's type one diabetes diagnosis to make good health and well-being accessible to underprivileged children in India. Thus, Project Surya was born.This youth-led nonprofit focuses on aiding underprivileged type one diabetic adolescents through awareness, advocacy, and funding. Since its inception in 2021 in Bangalore, Project Surya has expanded globally, boasting a team of 45 volunteers across 3 countries and 8 cities, with chapters in Bangalore, New Delhi, the USA, and Mumbai, and upcoming units in the UK and various Indian cities.With an impressive track record, Project Surya has impacted over 30,000 individuals and raised over $10,000 to sponsor 4000 vials of insulin and 1000 insulin syringes for those in need. Project Asar by Ayura Subhash 1M1B Future Leaders 2023-11-22 | Project Asar is a new initiative that aims to raise awareness on the negative impacts of fast fashion, while promoting sustainable practices such as upcycling and recycling of textile waste. Through Project Asar, Ayura built a bridge that connects donors to various NGOs, to provide basic clothing to the underserved communities and improve livelihoods for many rural families through upcycling and recycling programs. With several campaigns and collection drives at schools, residential complexes, and corporate offices, Project Asar has successfully collected over 350 kgs of clothes. These clothes were donated to NGOs such as Goonj and India 360. Ayura's campaigns have reached over 800 people so far, and the number is still growing. Project Asar is dedicated to promoting sustainable practices and increasing awareness on fast fashion.Ayura has been selected to showcase her project at the 7th 1M1B Activate Impact Summit at the United Nations on 30 November 2023.
The Mowgli Movement by Shriya Kumar 1M1B Future Leaders 2023-11-21 | The Mowgli Movement is a passion project rooted in love for wildlife safaris, inspired by Shriya Kumar’s cherished experiences with my father. Drawing from the enchanting tales of the "Jungle Book," the initiative is dedicated to uplifting tribal communities in Karnataka's forests. With a commitment to positive change, she ahs raised 1.15 lakhs, conducting impactful sessions in government schools, reaching over 500 participants. Addressing practical needs, distributed solar lamps, promoting both improved living conditions and eco-friendly solutions. The online awareness sessions, featuring WWF officials, and collaborations with the head of Jungle Lodges and Resorts (JLR) at Kabini, strive to harmonize conservation and responsible tourism. The personal connection to nature remains the guiding force, steering the Mowgli Movement towards a future where tribal communities and their forested homes thrive in harmony. Project Kamakhya by Saina Sarin 1M1B Future Leaders 2023-11-21 | Saina's project is focused on raising awareness and providing sustainable menstrual options for women. Her efforts were sparked by witnessing a young girl who was forced to use an old rag during her cycle. Saina has conducted numerous awareness sessions and has already distributed over 1500 sustainable pads. Her initiative has partnered with the Honda CSR team and the Juvenile Justice Board of India to reach women and girls in nearby underprivileged villages. Saina successfully raised Rs. 45,000 through crowdfunding to fund the pads and aims to invest in pad incinerators for schools. Her work has not gone unnoticed. Saina was recognized as a runner-up for the ARC Foundation's Student Award for Global Sustainability. She is admired globally and locally as a young leader making a positive impact.Saina has been selected to showcase her project at the 7th 1M1B Activate Impact Summit at the United Nations on 30 November 2023.
Project Pave the Way by Chandiresh Asaithambi 1M1B Future Leaders 2023-11-20 | Upon seeing the devastating financial impact of the early days of the Covid-19 lockdown on day laborers and migrant workers, Chandiresh was moved to found Project Pave the Way which aims to help construction workers understand government schemes and financial basics. Chandiresh created multilingual animated educational videos and curated in-person workshops to teach financial literacy in an easy-to-understand manner. To date, he has taught over 300 workers about financial literacy and has helped around 700 workers sign up for the BOCW government scheme, giving them many benefits, including healthcare, financial aid, education benefits, and insurance. Close to Rupees 1.3 lakhs has also been fundraised in order to sustain and grow the project. The indirect impact of this enrollment is ~3000 people given the benefits to the whole family once the worker is able to enroll. A comprehensive online platform is under development which will bring together the financial literacy modules plus government scheme details and links to beneficial organizations all in one location. Project Vidya by Roshni Gupta 1M1B Future Leaders 2023-11-19 | Project Vidya is a youth-led non-profit that focuses on providing underprivileged children with fundamental knowledge in core subjects like English, Math, and Computer Science, as well as developing their soft skills. Roshni has conducted 9 sessions for 60 students from grades 4, 5, and 7 and raised awareness in education for 65+ students from grades 6 and 7. She aims to sponsor the education of 204 underprivileged students through her fundraiser and has collected 200 books to provide to those in need. An online curriculum is being developed to share with teachers to make the project sustainable. Roshni is looking to expand her project to make a bigger and more sustainable impact.Roshni has been selected to showcase her project at the 7th 1M1B Activate Impact Summit at the United Nations on 30 November 2023.
Project TechUp by Rohan Gupta 1M1B Future Leaders 2023-11-19 | Project TechUp aims at equipping high school students with essential technical skills to prepare them for the future. Given the centrality of technology in tomorrow's world, Rohan identified an opportunity to contribute to this noble cause. He conducts weekly classes at Need Base India Girls Home, and additionally, developing online courses accessible to children from varied backgrounds. To support this initiative, Rohan set up an online fundraiser and organized a donation drive. He has distributed the devices to schools to ensure they have the necessary tools to participate in the digital age. Rohan believes that everyone should have access to knowledge about technology, to ensure they are adequately prepared for the world. Project Shikshayathi by Jishnu Uahan 1M1B Future Leaders 2023-11-19 | Jishnu founded Project Shikshayathi due to his passion for education and the awareness that not all children had the same level of access to quality education as he does. After realizing the high number of students who are withdrawn from school at ages 3-6 years, he realized that this was where he wanted to focus his attention. His discussion with parents uncovered that many do not see the value of sending their children to the Anganwadis when the infrastructure in these schools is so poor. Jishnu was able to raise Rs. 1,30,000 with which he was able to supply an Anganwadi with tables and chairs, student uniforms and shoes, and books and games. He has engaged the children in activities and learning exercises to get them excited about learning new things. By making the environment more inviting, Jishnu hopes to incentivize parents to send their children to school. Jishnu hopes to replicate this model across more Anganwadis in the Bangalore Rural area. Project Oxigenado by Samudrika Gopinath 1M1B Future Leaders 2023-11-19 | Project Oxigendo, founded by Samudrika, aims to reduce carbon emissions by partnering with schools and small-scale industries. The initiative was inspired by the felling of trees near her school. Over 800 people have been educated through awareness sessions and social media, and 240+ trees have been planted and distributed. The project has also started saving water daily in two schools through aerators installed with Earthfokus. The project is working on a product called 'Liquid Plant', which is electricity-free, cost-effective, and 30x more efficient in reducing carbon emissions. The Deputy CM of Karnataka, Mr. DK Shivakumar has expressed the government's willingness to advance their product. This is a testament to the remarkable work that Project Oxigenado is doing to create a greener, and cleaner cities for future generations.Samudrika has been selected to showcase her project at the 7th 1M1B Activate Impact Summit at the United Nations on 30 November 2023.
Project Swachh Sansaar by Esha Nahar 1M1B Future Leaders 2023-11-19 | Project Swachh Sansaar was created to tackle the problem of plastic pollution and reduce the overwhelming burden of plastic waste on our planet. Esha was inspired to fight this due to the death of a childhood pet dog due to plastic suffocation. Through awareness and promotion of plastic-free products, Project Swachh Sansaar has been able to reach out to 5 apartment complexes, 4 hotel chains, 2 underprivileged schools, The Indian Institute of Science and ISKCON in Bangalore as well as many more individuals. Through these sessions, the project has successfully reduced the usage of over 50 different plastic products amongst 2000+ people and various institutions.Esha has been selected to showcase her project at the 7th 1M1B Activate Impact Summit at the United Nations on 30 November 2023.
Project MUSE by Avni and Nishitashaa 1M1B Future Leaders 2023-11-19 | In a world where clothing has a negative impact on both our bodies and the environment, Nishitashaa and Avni, Future Leaders of 1M1B, have created Project Muse – a committed call to action. The initiative aims to reduce cloth wastage in Bangalore's local communities using the circular fashion model.Realization – Through surveys, awareness sessions, and dynamic initiatives like busking and bake sales, Project Muse advocates action-driven change. Reuse – By collaborating with organizations such as Social Cred$ and engaging with the youth, Project Muse has collected over 1500 clothing items for reuse. The initiative benefits villages, disabled communities, and children's homes, with 700 clothes given in exchange for community work, repurposed attire for the disabled, and 250 sets of clothing for children's homes. Repair – Project Muse's upcycling workshops, skill-building sessions, promote sustainability at the heart of the communities. Project Vitality by Maanyata Ladi 1M1B Future Leaders 2023-11-17 | Project Vitality is a remarkable initiative that strives to provide an efficient healthcare system to support young adults aged 18 to 22 who are leaving orphanages. The mission is to ensure that these individuals are physically and mentally fit to face their future with confidence. The approach is holistic, combining consistent physical activity and events with a healthy, balanced diet, regular check-ups, and ongoing monitoring of progress. So far, Project Vitality has directly impacted the lives of 130 people and indirectly influenced around 250. The comprehensive approach addresses physical health and provides the emotional support necessary for personal growth.
