cinéSPEAK does more than just write about and screen movies. We’re moving money into the hands of marginalized artists, bringing communities together, and supporting local community organizing. Cultural work is a key part of strengthening movements for collective liberation. Social change requires mass movements; art and cultural work is the way to bring together those masses to learn, celebrate, and dream together.
We can’t let foundations alone define who deserves funding or what politics or strategies are worth investing in. In order to sustain cinéSPEAK and be true to our values, we need to network the resources of our community and strengthen our autonomy.
Let’s build the world we want where artists are valued, cultural events are free to all, and storytelling helps us imagine how to get free and take action. Every little bit helps.
