For the past 10 years, millions of people have told me that I inspire them. But today I want to tell you about the person who inspired me.

Her name is Claire.

For six years, I’ve watched Claire show up to mountain bike practices and races, even when it was hard. Even when she was the slowest rider on the team. Even when she couldn’t finish.

She just kept showing up.

And this July, she decided she was going to climb Everest.

29,032 feet of climbing on a mountain bike in 25 days.

Yesterday, I had the honor of riding with Claire for her final push, and we reached the summit together.

Claire taught me that you don’t have to be the fastest, the most talented, or the most fearless to belong. You just have to be willing to keep trying.

Sometimes the people who inspire us most aren’t the ones making hard things look easy. They’re the ones showing us what it looks like to do something when it’s really, really hard.
