The Weller adjustable temperature irons work better than cheaper ones because they attempt to keep the tip at a certain temperature, and are a higher wattage. In this machine we found a few cold solder joints that had been soldered before. If you want nice solder joints every time, you need a temperature controlled unit like this Weller... well worth the money! They work much nicer than the cheapo ones (I upgraded after a couple years of working on games!)
