Why do we get caught up scrolling and stuck in social comparison? We think more and more that we're somehow missing out (FOMO) or we shouldn't be where we are.
We get stuck on the hedonic treadmill of needing the next thing.
If we're more present, we can go the direction that matters from a place of calm.
[TRANSCRIPT]:
So imagine you walk into a mall, and you see that map with that little dot that says "You Are Here".
And somebody walks up next to you and they go, "Here?! I'm not supposed to be here--I'm supposed to be in the Apple Store! What am I doing here?!"
You'd probably think that person is completely crazy.
But this is what we do all day long as humans.
We think that we should be somewhere else than where we are.
We think we should have more money, or we should have a house, or we should find a partner.
The idea that we should be somewhere else and there's something missing and that there's this huge chasm between us and what we should be or should have--that's what causes us pain.
So the point here is: be here.
From here, you can go anywhere, but start here.
Then you have a starting point.
You have a place to start for the things you want to change in your life.
