Has Star Wars finally found one of its most exciting new directions through anime?
In my Star Wars: The Ninth Jedi series review, I’m breaking down why I thought this was a great new chapter for the galaxy far, far away—and why we desperately need more Star Wars anime moving forward.
What stood out most about The Ninth Jedi was how fresh it felt while still understanding the heart of Star Wars. The series embraces the visual creativity, emotional storytelling, and larger-than-life action that anime can provide, but it never feels disconnected from the themes that make this franchise special.
At its core, this is still a story about legacy, hope, identity, sacrifice, and what it truly means to become a Jedi. The anime format simply gives the creators more freedom to explore those ideas through imaginative worlds, expressive animation, unique lightsaber battles, and characters who do not feel restricted by the expectations surrounding the live-action universe.
The animation is one of the biggest highlights. Every action sequence feels energetic and carefully designed, while the quieter character moments still carry emotional weight. The series knows when to deliver spectacle, but it also understands that Star Wars works best when the characters and their personal journeys remain at the center.
I also loved how The Ninth Jedi expands the mythology without feeling like it is constantly relying on familiar faces or nostalgia. It proves that Star Wars can move into different eras, explore new heroes, and experiment with completely different visual styles without losing its identity.
That is exactly why I want more.
Star Wars anime should not feel like a one-time experiment or a side project. There is so much potential for full series, original timelines, new Jedi, unfamiliar planets, and stories that could only be told through animation.
