Season 1 Episode 19
Episode: "Coming of Age"
The Enterprise arrives at the Earth colony Relva VII to give Wesley Crusher an opportunity to undertake his entrance exam for Starfleet Academy. The Enterprise also receives a visit from an old friend of Captain Picard, Admiral Gregory Quinn; shortly upon his arrival however it's apparent that Quinn has more business on his mind than pleasure as he is accompanied by Commander Dexter Remmick from the Inspector General's office so that he can perform an intrusive investigation of corrupt behaviour aboard the Enterprise.
Despite his brilliance, Wesley completed his testing in second place; a result that to Wesley is as good as failure. Picard is obviously taking the scenic way around the ship to the location of Admiral Quinn's farewell dinner as he has found his way to the observation lounge, which is located on deck 1 (he was on deck 12 the last time we saw him). Seeing Wesley so disappointed in his performance, Picard feels compelled to not only offer Wesley a life's lesson but also a confession regarding his final result when he underwent his Starfleet Academy entrance exam all those years ago.
