Tiring a Wheel - 2017 Albany Pioneer Days Kens Custom Iron 2017-09-18 | Tiring a Wheel at the 2017 Albany Pioneer Days in Albany, Minnesota. The metal tire is approximately 1/2" smaller in circumference than the the wooden wheel. By heating it up, it expands enough to fit over the wheel, where it then needs to be quenched to prevent the wood from burning and cool the metal off enough that it shrinks back down to size.
