Calabogie Challenge PT Race August 14, 2026 maximccd 2026-08-15 | I had a lot of fun battling with Lorne in the grey Mustang - chasing and being chased for the whole race. He's faster on the straights, but I'm faster in the corners. Somehow we end up with very similar lap times. Some highlights: At around 9:30 I get a run going coming out of 12, and manage to take the pass in turn 14. At 17:36 apparently he got a great launch onto the front straight, and passes me like a freight train. Crap! Back to chasing him down again! Starting at about 27 minutes I'm chasing hard, and put in the fastest lap I've done with the Miata so far - 2:23.5. Unfortunately I ran out of laps before I could find a way ahead again. I missed out on a podium but still finished the race with a big smile.
One lap in GT Challenge maximccd 2026-07-12 | Calabogie Challenge Racing ran a four-series race day on the Stadium Track. I usually run in PT Challenge, but for the heck of it I also ran in GT Challenge, which is a point-by passing race open to street cars. I made it to the podium in both - 3rd in PT3, and 2nd in GT1. The GT race turned out to be a lot of fun, with Matt E chasing me from start to finish. The roller coaster Stadium Track lacks long straights so it really played to my Miata's strengths - you're constantly turning. Still, there are some shorter straights and Matt's Mustang has significantly more power, but my little NC Miata's engine swap meant I had a whopping 195 HP that helped keep him at bay. Crazy how two very different cars produced the same lap times, meaning it was an intense workout with Matt relentlessly chasing throughout! In the end Matt finished just 2 seconds behind. In the video, remember that objects in mirror are much closer than they appear!
2026 SMP Cup at Shannonville - Race 3 GT5 maximccd 2026-05-31 | Driving my new-to-me 2007 Miata in GT5. Car setup isn't quite right yet - it's a little hesitant to turn in. But it's got decent straight-line speed. In Race 1 on the Pro Track configuration I did pretty well and got P1. But in Race 2 on the Full Track I wasn't as competitive and came in P2. My goal for Race 3 was to fix that. All I had to do was pass the car directly ahead on the grid, and then stay ahead...
Podium in Calabogie GT3 maximccd 2025-08-17 | Fun but very hot day at Calabogie Motorsports Park! My target for the day was to get a little faster and try and get a podium spot. I had some afternoon coaching with James, who taught me a new Miata driving technique. In this series you only ever get three quali laps. My first two were disrupted by very clumsy passes from faster cars. The third had a yellow flag for a car off exiting 14. Grrr!In the race, I quickly got by the white Mustang to get into 3rd position in class. Spent the rest of the race closely chasing the top two. Great fun!

Miata at Calabogie GT Challenge maximccd 2025-08-01 | Something a little different... I picked up a fun little 2007 Miata. It will be converted into a proper racecar over the winter. Meanwhile, I'm running a few races in the Calabogie GT series. This is the last lap of the race. Yes I know you can't really hear the engine... but neither could I! Needs an exhaust LOL. FPCC Chaos at Mosport maximccd 2025-05-11 | Crazy incident following restart at the race today. You might want to watch this a few times because there's a lot going on! We come around T3 and discover a Radical has been tipped into a spin. At first all we see is a cloud of tire smoke... no idea what awaits. Then it becomes clear it's sitting backwards on the racing line! Sal in the Radical to my right is surprised but continues right and avoids the crash. The Revolution in front on the left tries to dive over to the right side of the track, but clips the stationary Radical and breaking the front left on both cars. The now out-of-control Revolution heads back for the wall. Meanwhile a green Radical is rally driving in the grass on the left, and gets airborne at one point. It doesn't hit the wall but has substantial damage to the suspension and front support arms. Like the Revolution I also have nowhere to go! Fortunately I quickly realize there's a little bit of available pavement on the left of the stranded car, so I decide to take the grass - but crucially keep two wheels just on the pavement. This allows me to get past the stranded car yet maintain control and reenter the track safely. Phew!
Lap of Road Atlanta in RySpec Radical SR3 1340 maximccd 2024-12-04 | Richard Yin / RySpec was recently at AMP and asked me if I'd like to come down and rent his car for a weekend at Road Atlanta. I hadn't been for five years so why not? The video quality is a bit compromised from the eroded lens with a piece of rubber stuck on it, not to mention the very low sun. It's actually not my fastest lap but it's a little easier to see on this one. And yes I did miss the apex a bit in T5... I was pretty much completely blind at turn-in!

Canadian Towing Service Damages Our Building maximccd 2023-05-17 | Impact at 10:18 pm May 16, 2023. Flatbed vehicle backs into our building, hard. The vehicle was trespassing on our property at the time. Canadian Towing Service originally agreed to pay for the repairs to our building, but then refused to because it was too expensive. The damage is fairly extensive. One brick is fully punched out, several are broken, and the entire corner of the wall has been shifted outwards. It requires disassembling the whole corner of brickwork and rebuilding. That amounts to quite a lot of labor. Plus new custom bricks need to be ordered.

Calabogie Libre Race 8 - Season Finale maximccd 2022-09-24 | Well that was an eventful race. Car wouldn't start again. Stator wiring is fixed, but it appears the battery is fubar now. Push started the car, did quali, left it idling during the Miata quali, then off to the races. I qualify on the second row.00:47 At the start, Norm in the car ahead has a transmission issue, and I have to check up, resulting in two cars getting ahead of me. Then Norm speeds off. D'oh.01:20 The red car squeezes past David in the yellow Radical, on the outside of 5/6.01:37 I pass David in the yellow Radical on the inside into Temptation. I go chasing after the red car.3:07 There's a dropout in my video... during this time I spot Norm facing backwards in Temptation. Thanks! That puts me on the podium!04:20 I've caught up. Dumb Move maximccd 2022-09-24 | Was having a fun day just lapping at Mosport, when this incredibly dangerous incident happens. This is a point-by passing event. I catch up to some slow cars, and I get a point-by and start to accelerate, when we come across a slower car pointing the other way. I'm blocked, so I abort my pass and move to tuck in behind the car in front to go by them. At that very moment, as I'm moving across the track, this crazy guy dive bombs all of us with no point-by, creating perhaps the most dangerous situation I've ever encountered on a race track. If he had hit us at that speed, it would have been catastrophic.

A Cold Lap of the DDT maximccd 2022-04-03 | Took the Radical out for some test laps on April 2 at the Mosport DDT. I've never driven a race car so early in the season before; as you can see the snow is still melting. This was very much the opposite of a hot lap - temperatures were around 3C. I was being VERY cautious on cold tires.I'm glad we did the test. The team from Radical Canada found and fixed a couple of minor issues. Once that was sorted the car was rock solid. Looking forward to a much-more-reliable season!
Calabogie Ice Race Championship 2022 - Team 76 maximccd 2022-02-23 | This is the finale of the 2022 Calabogie Ice Race Championship. My teammate Colin Wolfson and I managed a Championship win in the Rubber AWD class! Due to a bizarre glitch where my GoPro recorded still photos instead of video, I have converted those stills to video, resulting in a roughly 5X faster than normal playback. All six sprint races are included. Also since there's no sound, I added something suitable.

Radical Crash maximccd 2021-09-12 | I was at Calabogie Motorsports yesterday, mainly for coaching a couple of novice students. Between coaching sessions I took out the Radical just for some fun. Old tires, lots of traffic, not pushing at all. The car had other ideas. Coming out of corner 13 I lift off the throttle for the braking zone of 14, and the engine keeps right on going. With no time to react I go both feet in. The engine revs to the red line, and I'm heading towards the tire wall at 80 mph. I'm leaving strips of rubber down the pavement, but am still going 60 as I go onto the grass. I still manage to bleed off another 10 mph before I hit the tire wall. Yes, I'm absolutely fine, the impact was a total nothingburger from my side - I didn't feel a thing. The tire wall did its job and kept me safe, even though it shredded the bodywork and bent the front right A-arms. Radical Canada happened to be on site and Richard immediately started investigating. It looks like the problem is on the engine side; the throttle bodies are suspect.

I'm taking it slow and learning the ropes before getting too aggressive with it. The dash doesn't know about the start/finish line yet, but this lap was a 2:15.

The Mercedes also tried to get by, but I held him off... but it was for naught as he took advantage of his straight line advantage. Wasn't about to give up - kept pushing and kept up with them. On the last lap Roger tries to pass for the win, but it goes wrong and I take full advantage for a P2 finish! The three of us finished within 2 seconds of each other. Quite the battle!

Calabogie Platinum Double Header Race 2 - Long Track maximccd 2020-08-16 | What can I say? This one was nuts. At the start a Nascar lost its hood in corner 1. This causes a little mayhem and I get bumped in corner 3. When the dust settles there's a Nastruck sideways blocking the left hand side of the road, and I'm dead center in the road with my nose up against the front of the truck. Did I mention corner 3 is blind? Yeah, it's blind. Brown pants for everyone! Somehow I survive unscathed and start my recovery drive. I have a great battle with Grant in the yellow BMW. I eventually get by him, but then my clutch starts failing. And Grant is having some trouble, too. I'm saved from having to limp into the pits by a safety car. Unfortunately that happened because Marc put his TA2 car in into the wall in corner 1. The race ends under full course yellow. Again.
