Between 1872 and 1914, 300,000 Germans from Russia obtained passports and severed ties to their villages in Russia. The odyssey to America had begun. Although they settled in almost every area of North America most Germans from Russia preferred the open spaces of the Great Plains. And it was here that Germans from Russia in America maintained their language and culture the longest. The principal monuments visited in the first part of the film are: the Roman Forum and the Colosseum with reconstructions, the ancient Roman bridges and aqueducts, the exterior and interior of the glorious Pantheon, then the Capitol, culminating with the exterior of S. Peter's with its famous square in the Vatican. The second part of begins with the interior of S. Peter's. It then offers a glimpse of Raphael's frescos and Michelangelo's work on the ceiling of the Sistine Chapel, concluding with his statues of Moses and the Pieta. The film goes on to show Piazza Navona with its three fountains, the Circus Maximus, the fountain of the two tritons with the nearby temples and the so-called 'Mouth of Truth.' Then follow the 'Boat Fountain' and the 'Spanish Steps,' the Via Veneto and the great basilicas of Rome. Once again a fountain will introduce us to the Appian Gate whence we proceed along the famous Appian Way. Returning to the centre of Rome the film shows the 'Fontanone' on the Janiculum hill, the Quirinal fountain and the legendary Trevi fountain. it moves to Piazza del Popolo with its fountains, statues, obelisk, churches, and city gate, then to the Villa Borghese with its fountains and art gallery. It follows with the monuments of Piazza Venezia then, the Naiad fountain to introduce the imperial baths of Diocletian and Caracalla. Following a glimpse of the Termini station the film concludes its itinerary with the modern quarter of E.U.R. its fountains, its pools and Nervi's Palazzo dello Sport. The third part is devoted to the visit of the Catacombs.
