"Le Poids de l'Âme" is the latest album from the legendary French heavy metal band Sortilège, released on November 21, 2025 by the Verycords label. Considered the "Heavy Metal Made in France" of the 80s, the group, reformed in 2019 around the iconic vocalist Christian "Zouille" Augustin, continues to inject vitality into its legacy with a sound that blends classic influences of traditional metal with modern touches of power metal, remaining firmly focused on the future.
This work emerges at a time of profound resilience for the band, marked by the recent passing of guitarist Bruno Ramos. Instead of succumbing to grief, Sortilège found the strength to move forward, incorporating new lead guitarist Michaël Zurita – an essential complement to the rhythmic power of the other guitarist, main co-writer and producer Olivier Spitzer. As Zouille aptly expressed: "More than ever, after the sad departure of our friend Bruno, Sortilège demonstrates great resilience and proudly displays its symbol: the Phoenix!". The album title, "Le Poids de l'Âme" (The Weight of the Soul), reflects this emotional weight, transforming mourning into hymns of overcoming and rebirth.
With ten explosive tracks/announcements, the album sounds like a cohesive and organic band, far from mere studio projects – traditional heavy metal as it should sound in 2025, with powerful riffs, vigorous vocals from Zouille (who hasn't lost any of his power) and an energy that pulsates in every chord.
