The snowy plover habitat along the Oregon Coast, specifically in the Siuslaw National Forest, has seen significant recovery efforts. The population of snowy plovers in Oregon has increased from about thirty birds to between four and five hundred. A $200,000 grant was received for a habitat restoration project, aiming to create open sand beach environments for nesting and connect habitats along the coast. The project has already led to the successful nesting of several pairs of plovers in areas that were previously unsuitable for nesting. Additional funding has been secured to continue the habitat restoration work, with the goal of completing the entire fifty to fifty-five acre stretch.
