Starlight Ritual was born in Montréal, Québec, sometime in 2013, founded by guitarists J.F. Bertrand and Dan Toupin. It was originally Bertrand’s idea to start a doom/psychedelic project, and they soon recruited bassist Mat Forge and drummer Louis Lecomte. Dan and J.F. wrote a full-length album of doomy, heavy/prog instrumental music. Some of those tracks ended up on the band’s first self-titled album in 2015 (technically a self-produced four-song EP, albeit with a running time of nearly 40 minutes).
Damian Ritual joined Starlight Ritual as a singer in early 2014. Since then, the band issued another EP, called »Age Of The Universe« (2016), followed by their first official full-length album »Sealed In Starlight« on Temple Of Mystery (2021).
Starlight Ritual’s first effort for High Roller is their second official full-length album entitled »Rogue Angels«. “We recorded everything in our own studio in Montréal over the past year,” explains the singer. “Most of the music was written by Dan Toupin, with a few tracks by J.F., and I contributed certain parts and helped rearrange the songs into their final versions. I recorded the bass and all vocals, including lyrics and vocal melodies. J.F. played drums, and Dan played all guitars.“
Looking back to the very beginnings of the band, in how far has their style changed over the years? “A lot, actually,” is the answer. “Our early work featured longer, more psychedelic tracks meant for zoning out, but I never felt that truly represented what the band could be. On the »Age Of The Universe« EP, we started leaning into a more classic heavy metal sound. By the time we released »Sealed In Starlight«, we had really found our identity: traditional heavy metal with epic flair, channeling the likes of Manowar and Running Wild, as well as older influences like Thin Lizzy and Rainbow. We blend the styles we love and make them our own. If I had to put a label on it, I’d call it ‘Epic Hard Rocking Traditional Metal’ – if that’s even a real genre!”
The album »Rogue Angels« (which Damian describes as “sharp, deadly, and to the point”) sometimes carries a bit of a Grim Reaper vibe. Would that be a fair assessment? “Definitely in the vocals,” confirms the singer. “Steve Grimmett (RIP) was a huge influence on me. Songs that showcased his range and power, like ‘Rock Me 'Til I Die’, were staples for me as I explored my own voice. He’s right up there with Paul Di’Anno, Tony Martin, Eric Adams, Blackie Lawless, and, of course, Ronnie James.”
“Exodus” is probably the slowest song on the album, an epic, maybe even a ballad, the closest to true doom metal possibly? “Exactly,” comes the reply. “It’s our ‘Heaven And Hell’ or ‘Egypt (The Chains Are On)’ moment. Every solid metal album needs at least one epic slow-burner – and what’s more epic than the Old Testament? Not much!” Nothing left to add to this, actually!

Aquilla are a promising new band from Poland, mixing elements of the NWOBHM with traditional speed metal to forge their own brand of lethal outer space metal. The first incarnation of the band was formed in Warsaw in 2015. The current line-up of Aquilla consists of Captain Paradox on vocals, Jaspar De Phaser on rhythm guitars, Kris Invader on lead guitars, Hippie Banzai on bass and Pete Slammer on drums.
Aquilla are very much inspired by movies such as »2001: Space Odyssey«, »Dune«, »Alien«, »Blade Runner« and »Interstellar«.
After a few singles and EPs, Aquilla issued their long-awaited debut album »Mankind’s Odyssey« in 2022. This is now followed by their new effort »Sentinels Of New Dawn«, the first for High Roller Records.
Drummer Peter Slammer explains: “It’s a huge step for Aquilla in every way. Looking back, the production process of »Mankind’s Odyssey« was not well thought-out. We didn’t have a clear vision of the sound of the album, and we had no experience of such long and demanding recording sessions. In the end, we produced a good-sounding album, but we didn’t feel it was entirely the right direction for the band. The real change began once we started composing songs for »Sentinels Of New Dawn«. The new compositions were meant to lean a bit more towards old-school classics while being both forceful and epic.”
Regarding the lyrical concept, Aquilla have invented their own universe: “We are all enthusiasts of both classic and modern sci-fi creations, and thus our music tells a story of mankind's last remaining survivors who decide to settle on a distant planet called Yvad’déra. The previous album was where that concept was fully developed, and it is continued on this record. This time we have mad space pirates (‘Plunder And Steel’), crazy berserk-like mercenaries (‘Battalion 31’) and technological overlords (‘Technocrats' Tyranny’). And everyone fights each other, just like in real life. »Sentinels Of New Dawn« and »Mankind’s Odyssey« are both pretty much concept albums. The lore itself isn’t that strict really, apart from the general concept of mankind on a distant planet, so it leaves a lot of room for imagination, creativity and open interpretations for the audience as well.”

Speed Queen from Limburg in Belgium are not to be confused with the French band of the same name from the early 1980s. Founded in 2014, an initial demo was followed by two EPs, »King Of The Road« (Babylon Doom Cult Records, 2017) and their High Roller debut »Still On The Road« in 2020. The band consists of Thomas Kenis (vocals, tambourine), Andreas Stieglitz (guitars, synths), Lander Savelkoul (bass) and Toon Driezen (drums).
“We started as a bunch of greasy teenagers discovering our dad’s record collection”, laughs bassist Lander Savelkoul talking about the early days of the band. “Like the youngsters we were, we found out we could get free entrance and beers at concerts by playing there, and when we saw people actually liked what we were doing - shit got real!”
Speed Queen have been together for more than ten years now and have played numerous festivals (from Wacken Open Air to the Alcatraz Festival) and did some tours with, amongst others, Night Demon. “We like to think that rock‘n'roll has to be fun and invigorating in the first place,” adds Lander, “and that’s what we try to bring to the stage - a fast, energetic show with no pauses. We’re bringing a whole new live show along with this new release.”
The new release we are talking about is »…With a Bang!«, Speed Queen's full-length debut album (released on High Roller Records). “This album has been cooking for quite some time,” explains the bassist. “We started working on these songs after »King Of The Road« was released and in between live shows, after a pandemic and line-up change, we are finally ready to release them to the world. Also, it’s a cliché but we’ve grown as a band and you can hear that we’re more comfortable playing these songs.”
“»…With a Bang!« is very much meant to be a powerful, 'in your face' record,” continues Lander. “The songs are different from our previous releases in the sense that they have more ‘oempf’, there is more variation and we don’t shy away from spicing this up with an extra layer here and there.”
Jonny Nesta of Thunderor and Skull Fist appears as a guest musician playing some guitar solos on the record. “Like Yngwie Malmsteen said: more is more,” muses Speed Queen's bass player, “but for us it’s a heavy metal record, not a guitar record.“

Six years after “Sacrifice Your Future”, Bavarian thrash metal force White Mantis return with “Arrows at the Sun”. The band’s second album continues on the path they have followed ever since drummer Thomas Taube and bass player Jan Strobl joined in 2016 and 2018 respectively. Explains the latter: “Based on a traditional thrash metal foundation, the new songs also display some weird, chaotic and progressive influences. Given the members’ different musical backgrounds, we are always open to diverse songwriting.”
As a consequence, White Mantis have refined their sophisticated style of lyric writing even further. The album deals with sociopolitical issues, technocriticism and scepticism towards progress but also spirituality and death as a mystery of life. It’s easy to hear influences from Voivod or early Megadeth on “Arrows at the Sun,” yet for the most part, White Mantis are very much themselves, with songs such as ‘Reality Exists” or the title track encapsulating their own brand of thrash: crushing melodies, frantic rhythms and multiple turns, all without sacrificing their catchiness.

“Mysterium” is the ninth studio album by German thrash metal institution Paradox and marks a special milestone in the band’s 44-year history, as founder and mastermind Charly Steinhauer not only played all stringed instruments, programmed the drums and sang, but also handled the production entirely on his own. Only the mastering was left to Patrick W. Engels competent hands.
The songs are thematically linked, without it being a classic concept work. The lyrics – which, as on ‘Tales of the Weird’ (2012) and ‘Pangea’ (2016), were written by Achim “Daxx” Hoemerlein (ex-Vendetta) – revolve around mystical stories and world events that have personally moved Steinhauer. Songs like ‘Abyss of Pain and Fear’ (inspired by the movie “Midnight Express”), the instrumental ‘Grief’ (a tribute to co-founder Axel Blaha, who died in 2023) or the title track (about dream interpretation) thus form a common thread.
In Steinhauer’s own estimation, “Mysterium” is alongside their 1989 classic “Heresy” the strongest Paradox album to date! The songs all have their own identity, are catchy, and when the album is over, I want to listen to it again straight away.”
Charly`s focus remains on studio productions. In fact, he is already thinking about a follow-up album. For now, “Mysterium” is available on CD (with bonus track) and vinyl.

Following »Romantik I« (2022) and »Romantik II« (2023), the International duo Bergfried present their new album »Romantik III«, the first for High Roller Records. The group consists of Erech von Lothringen, who is handling all the instruments, and vocalist Anna de Savoy.
The name of Erech von Lothringen is quite well-known in underground circles. Over the last years, he has created a lot of different projects, mostly being associated with black metal. “That’s true,” says the multi-instrumentalist. “Although I’d like to stress that only two EPs of the lot were strictly black metal. Golden Blood, for example, leaned more towards thrash metal, heavy metal and even power metal. I am listening to lot of different metal styles, and black metal is only a very small part of that.”
“I only had the name of the band, and the title of the first EP, »Romantik I«,” Erech von Lothringen explains how Bergrfried came about in the first place. “Musically I wanted to take the project in the direction of Grime Stone Records. However, that didn’t work out too well as everything turned out more rocky than I had expected. No wonder though, as at the time I was only listening to 70s/80s hard rock and AOR.“
In principle, Bergrfried are a duo. However, this time around Erech von Lothringen got a lot of help: “I only had to play rhythm and lead guitars on the album. There are real drums on »Romantik III«, handled by Fabio Alessandrini, who was also playing on »Serpent Chariot«, the debut album by Golden Blood. He is usually active for Annihilator, Bonfire and Enforcer.“
“»Romantik III« is the last part of this trilogy,” continues Erech von Lothringen. “Conceptually, “»Romantik III« is the continuation of “»Romantik II«, the whole thing has become a bit more compact musically, and also clearer. There are classic heavy metal songs on the album, but, as on »Romantik II«, there are also a few musical-like passages inbetween. »Romantik III« is a concept album: Anna is wandering through hell looking for her lover, fighting with God (Maria Nesh of Red Eye Temple) and the devil (Sarah Kitteringham of Smoulder). She gets help from the heavenly messenger (Damna of Elvenking). It may sound like the typical fight of good against evil, but everything is not as clear as it seems …”
All in all, »Romantik III« is a very catchy, accessible album and does not sound as dark as some of the song titles seem to imply. It’s melancholic through and through, for sure, but a song like “Fallen From Grace” has strong pop sensibilities. “This is probably down to my love of Meat Loaf,” says Erech von Lothringen. “When as a child I was holding »Bat Out Of Hell« in my hands, I was suspecting the heaviest album of all time. Of course, the record is nothing like that.”

Giles Lavery is best known as the vocalist of Warlord, Alcatrazz and Jack Starr. On top of that, he is also a highly prolific band manager, record producer and label co-owner.
Dragonsclaw is the name one of the first bands Giles Lavery co-formed in 2010, while still residing in Sydney, Australia. Their debut album »Prophecy« was quickly recorded in 2011, followed by »Judgement Day« (2013). And now, a record breaking twelve years later, it’s time for the follow-up.
Apart from Giles Lavery on vocals, »Moving Target« features Australian citizens Ben Thomas (guitars) and Aaron Thomas (bass) as well Warlord members Mark Zonder (drums) and Jimmy Waldo (keyboards).
“For me the direction on »Moving Target« was intended to be if Judas Priest had made an album somewhere in 1985 between »Defenders Of The Faith« and »Turbo«,” describes the vocalist the sound of the new Dragonsclaw album, “with some of the second Fifth Angel album in there too.”
Keyboards are prominently featured on »Moving Target«, which was actually the original plan of the band: “I think for this album the keyboards are very important, they create the needed atmosphere and drama. I would say that we used them in a similar way that Virgin Steele did on »Age Of Consent«, namely to build atmosphere. I really like that haunting effect keyboards can have when used right. Like Tony Banks from Genesis does, or Tony Carey on his Planet P Project albums ... Jimmy Waldo is one of those guys too.”
Probably the fastest and most upbeat number on »Moving Target« is called “Shadowfire”. And it comes with a surprise: “’Shadowfire’ reminded me of a current-day Riot song, so I asked Todd Michael Hall to sing on it with me, and he was kind enough to do so!”
“(Tell Me) All Your Lies”, on the other hand, another standout track on »Moving Target«, is quite an accessible composition, possibly the catchiest tune on »Moving Target«. It’s got a bit of that “Wasted Years” Maiden-vibe, following the Adrian Smith school of songwriting. “I am glad you noticed that,” laughs the singer. “As I heard that too ... Co-producer Thomas Mergler was largely responsible for helping to finish that song up as it wasn't quite right and he added some very good ideas to it.”
With the band on fire and Giles Lavery, the singer, coming across as a blend of Michael Kiske, Geoff Tate and Ronnie James Dio, »Moving Target« has every chance to become a modern-day heavy metal classic.

Following a self-financed EP named »The Sign« (2021) and the promising debut platter »Paralyzing Chains« for High Roller Records in 2023, Germany’s Sintage are ready to unleash their eagerly awaited new album. It is called »Unbound Triumph« and features second guitarist Chili as a new, additional member of the band.
Its predecessor »Paralyzing Chains« received good reviews in all important magazines, so expectations for the new album are quite high. After two years since its original release have passed, how satisfied are Sintage with how their full-length debut turned out? “Pretty satisfied for the most part,” says guitarist Julez. “The record stands for itself and has lost nothing of its power and appeal, the music was full-on all the way through. Looking back, we probably should have paid more attention to details. The album was recorded in a single week. It would have been better, I think now, if we had taken a breather, giving the album more time to mature.”
So how did Sintage approach the new album »Unbound Triumph«, any differences? “First of all, I must stress that it’s our third studio recording in a row featuring a new line-up. Our new guitarist, Chili, who has been with us for the last two years, has had a big impact on how our second album turned out. We didn’t set out to record another album as brutal as »Paralyzing Chains«. We rather wanted to combine the drive and emotion of »The Sign« with the aggression of »Paralyzing Chains«. We have two guitars now, so using more twin guitars and harmonies was definitely something we had on our list.”
For Julez, the key song on »Unbound Triumph« is “One With The Wind”: “This is the last single of the album. This track has everything Sintage stands for: power and speed of the old school, twin guitars and harmonies, a quiet part in the middle, fantastic bass lines by Marcus and arguably Randy’s best vocal performance on the entire record. Even at the rehearsal stage, we already recognized that “One With The Wind” sums up everything what Sintage are about.”
What expectations do Sintage have when it comes to the new album? “We hope that the public will like our new material as much as we have enjoyed creating it,” answers Chili, while his colleague Julez adds: “Doing better than with the last album should always be the motivation for every band. We think we achieved that. And if people think the same, all the better. That would really put a smile on our faces.”

White Mantis are:
Matthias Pletz - vocals, guitars
Enrico Pertoso - guitars
Jan Strobl - bass
Thomas Taube - drums
Track list:
01] Nekrotornado
02] Arrows at the Sun
03] Pass the Torch
04] Divide and Kill
05] Atavistic Power
06] Over your pale Bones
07] Toxic Sniper
08] Roboticator
09] Reality Exists
10] Altar of Technology

Phantom are a speed/thrash metal band from Guadalajara, Mexico, formed in 2021 as a project just for fun. After having cut their teeth on three demos and a split album with four likeminded groups, the four-piece released their debut full-length “Handed to Execution”, which was followed one year later by the EP “Transylvanian Nightmare”. While both were well-received by critics and fans alike, Phantom now up the ante with their second album “Tyrants of Wrath”.
The new record marks a tour de force through the genre’s much cherished traditions – think Razor, Dark Angel, Merciless, Living Death and, of course, Slayer for reference – while adding a fresh spin on things, be it in the shape of ‘Nimbus’ – a tribute to Phantom’s most old-school influences from cult acts such as Manilla Road, Gotham City and Heavy Load – or regarding the off-kilter structure of ‘Nazguhl’, one of many ventures into the unconventional that surprisingly enough never compromise the Mexicans’ extreme metal outlook.
“Tyrants of Wrath” was recorded and mixed at Nehtron Studios Mexico by the band and Héctor Northen, mastering was done by Patrick Engel at German Temple of Disharmony. Phantom will tour Europe in September/October 2025 with Brazil’s Evilcult. “It’s gonna be our first European tour, and we are very excited,” gushes front man J.C. “You can expect total devastation and absolutely merciless, breakneck performances!”

Epic doom metal masters Lord Vigo from Germany will issue their sixth full-length album in May 2025 on High Roller Records. Following the highly-regarded »Danse De Noir« (2020) and »We Shall Overcome« (2022), which formed part one and part two of a trilogy, the new work »Walk The Shadows« is not connected to this concept.
“»Walk The Shadows« stands on its own and is not part of the trilogy”, explains drummer, vocalist and keyboard player Vinz Clortho. “There is no coherent concept this time around, not a specific plot. These are all individual songs. It was quite a change for us after two very elaborate concept albums, and it was fun.”
Songs like ”Through A Glass Darkly“, “Servant Of The Dark” or “The Triumph Of The Killing Heart” evoke some sort of Gothic Horror feel. If you delve into »Walk The Shadows«, you will find a pretty eclectic mix of epic metal, gothic rock and post-punk, with traces of Sisters Of Mercy, Fields Of The Nephilim and even The Cure. “I would agree”, says Vinz Clortho. “The album combines several different styles to create something entirely new. My roots are in classic metal which means that the songs on the new album, which are definitely leaning in a dark rock direction, have taken a life on its own. I am not aware of a single album even vaguely sounding like »Walk The Shadows«. I just don’t know if that’s a good thing or a bad thing.”
“’Walk The Shadows’ is going to be the leading single,” continues Vinz. “We are also shooting a video for that. Apart from that, every song stands on its own and therefore it’s hard to single out specific tracks. Obviously, with a playing time of twelve minutes ‘El Hakim’ is not only the longest track on the album but also the most atmospheric. That’s another favourite of mine.”
“Stylistically, the new album surely is some kind of leap for us,” confesses Vinz Clortho, “but this is exactly the reason why I think it could be a defining album for the band. There are bands writing the same record over and over again. But that’s not us. With Lord Vigo every album sounds different. We are leaving our comfort zone here. Commercially this might not make sense. But we don’t care. It’s great to be successful. But we would like to be successful on our own terms. In some places I am singing a whole octave below my normal register. And that worked surprisingly well. It’s one reason why the album now sounds as it sounds.”

New video "Stygian Passage" available now.
When William J. Tsamis, founder of legendary epic metal masters Warlord, sadly passed away on the 13th of May 2021 at the age of only 60, it looked as if the premature death of one of the most creative forces in American metal had come. However, Warlord bounced back in 2024, with a new line-up and a brand new highly acclaimed studio album entitled "Free Spirit Soar" (on High Roller Records). This was quickly followed by "From The Ashes To The Archives – The Hot Pursuit Continues", a limited edition release to mark the occasion of the band's festival appearances in 2024 with returning Warlord vocalist Giles Lavery. (who also sings for Jack Starr and Alcatrazz).
With a new studio album in the bag, it was time for the “reborn” Warlord to hit the road. In the summer of 2024, they appeared at Trveheim (Germany), Golden R Festival (Greece), Pyrenean Warriors (France) and Metalitalia (Italy).
It was the band's idea to give their loyal following a something extra in return for their loyalty, as Giles Lavery explains: “We wanted to do something special and also something I don't think anyone else has ever done before - release and "give away" an exclusive 'free download' song to mark each festival stop on the tour ... four of them in one month. The reactions at these shows was again something that exceeded our expectations, people singing every word with us, the energy and response from the festival crowds was amazing.”
The songs we are talking about are “Golgotha (Place Of The Skull)”, “The Rainbow”, “Lost Archangel” and “Stygian Passage”.
All four can be found now in physical form on Warlord's new release "The Lost Archangel". The singer goes into more detail: “They are brand new recordings: but 'The Rainbow' is an old Warlord demo from the very early 80s, which was recorded back then, so we re-recorded it in 2024. The other three songs were compositions Bill released on his Lordian Guard albums in the 90s, that we 'Warlordized' also in 2024... These were the last three Lordian Guard songs that we felt we could bring over to Warlord, so we thought why not release them this way as "free downloads"
Almost directly after we released them free we were asked if we were going to issue these in physical format.
Apart from these four new songs, "The Lost Archangel" also features a wealth of older and more recent live recordings as well several studio re-workings of historic Warlord material.
The video for Stygian Passage is also out now (Link here)

Consisting of vocalist Therese Damberg, her brother Marcus Damberg on guitar, Hampus Steenberg on bass and Kent Svensson behind the drums, Teaser Sweet have already made some waves in the Swedish metal scene. They originally started out in 2013, when Marcus Damberg asked his sister and former bass player Christoffer Cardell “shouldn’t we start a band?” The initial line-up was completed by Kalle Krantz on drums. Before writing their own material, they used to be playing Kiss cover songs. After recording a demo they took to the stage and eventually releasing three albums and an EP: »Hit And Run« (2015), »In The Night« (EP, 2017), »Hypnotized« (2018) and »Monster« (2020).
The band has now signed a deal with High Roller Records as singer Therese Damberg explains: “We have always worked as an independent band but felt it was difficult to reach a larger audience. High Roller Records is a company with a good reputation, so we decided to share our latest record with them, which they loved – and there was a deal.”
The name of the album is »Night Stalker«. “We recorded and mixed it at South Banks Studios, located in Huskvarna, Sweden, in August 2024, it was mastered by Carl-Johan Grimmark,” says Therese, who describes the music of the band as “classic hard rock with a touch of old school heavy metal.”
Therese’s vocals on »Night Stalker« are very powerful yet melodic, at times sounding like a cross between Acid’s Kate, Leather Leone and Johanna of Lucifer. However, Therese herself sees it in a different light: “If I must name a female singer, it is Doro Pesch that I love to listen to. Otherwise, it's male singers that catch my attention, such as Rob Halford with his great feeling and attitude in his vocals.”
When asked about the big number of high-class female-fronted or all-female hard rock and metal bands in Sweden – from Crucified Barbara and Slingblade to Thundermother and The Gems –, the singer searches for an explanation: “Hard to say what the reason is for that. My guess is that Swedish women probably have an ear for hard rock and a confidence to follow their own path. ABBA laid the foundation for female singers from Sweden, and it is natural that hard rock bands have female singers just as there are bands with only men.”
Apart from being influenced by the music of Judas Priest and Dio, a song like “Deep In The Woods”, with its galloping bass work, owes a lot to Iron Maiden. Therese laughs: “You have a really good ear, that’s correct!” The main riff of “Killer Machine”, however, evokes the spirit of Black Sabbath. “Yes, we agree,” says the vocalist, “it has a touch of Black Sabbath but our influences for that particular song are split between Judas Priest and the modern style of the band Europe.” Elsewhere, numbers such as “Cold Is The Fire” and “Turn Me On” are also full of great hooks, making »Night Stalker« the band’s best album so far.

Los Angeles-based thrash metallers MindWars are back with their fifth studio album, “V”. Originally self-released by the band in early 2024, it now gets its well-deserved international exposure via High Roller Records. The trio, led by Mike Alvord, guitarist and co-founder of the legendary Holy Terror, along with Italian drummer Roby Vitari and bassist Rick Zaccaro, showcases a blend of classic thrash with a wealth of killer riffs and lyrical depth.
MindWars were founded in 2013, almost 25 years after a chance meeting between Alvord and Vitari in Europe that started a life-long friendship. The band name, of course, refers to Holy Terror’s second album “Mind Wars” (1988), yet the project represents a new chapter for the guitarist. “I didn’t want anyone to think this was a continuation of Holy Terror,” he clarifies. “I always looked at it as an appendage or extension, and it is only natural that there are hints of Holy Terror in our music.”
With Vitari’s relocation to L.A. and the most recent addition of Zaccaro, MindWars entered a new creative phase. “Having a more varied musical background and playing live together more often really brought us closer as a band,” explains Alvord, whose approach to singing has also matured on “V”. “I really tried to hear melodies as a vocalist and to stay within my range,” which gave him the confidence to even record a thrashified cover of Supertramp’s ‘The Logical Song’.
Elsewhere, “V” surprises with the nimble instrumental ‘The Road to Madagascar’, which was inspired by an emotional visit to a Holocaust museum, and the nine-minute ‘Vultures of the Eighth Wonder’, an epic journey blending influences from Al Di Meola and prog rock with metal. “ It took about a year and a half to write, and some of the song got left on the cutting room floor,” comments Mike, which just shows with how much care he treats his craft.
MindWars already garnered significant attention with their live shows, opening for Raven and Mordred as well as performing at festivals such Long Live the Loud (US), Storm Crusher (Germany) or True Thrash (Japan). Looking Ahead with “V”, the group is poised to continue their journey. “I go through spurts where riffs and songs start entering into my head and have already started laying down structures for what could be new songs,”, Mike announces. “But for now, we will enjoy our new label relationship and with any luck play a tour or festival or two is in our near future.”

Chances are that you will have heard the extraordinary voice of Alexx Panza before. He is the singer on Hitten's latest studio album »While Passion Lasts« (2023) as well as on »Souls Of The Innocent« (2022) by Jack Starr's Burning Starr. However, his newest venture is called Vigilhunter. For their much anticipated debut album the band has signed a contract with High Roller Records.
Besides the Hitten singer, who is also playing rhythm and lead guitar, Vigilhunter consist of Mirko Negrino on bass, Mattia Itala on second guitar and Marcello “Cell” Leocani on drums.
“This project has never been officially talked about before,” explains the vocalist, ”a demo version of the song 'Shadow Rider' has been uploaded on YouTube some years ago (and now currently removed), after putting this project on ice for quite a few years ... In recent times we decided to resurrect the project and finish working on the songs in order to make a proper release since we felt they had great potential. This line-up brought new enthusiasm that finally led to a full-length release.”
And what a great debut album Vigilhunter have come up with! Compositions such as “Disconnected”, “Titan Glory” or “Sacrifice” are some of the best songs Queensryche have never written. Alexx smirks: “I take this as a huge compliment, thank you very much! We are obviously very much influenced by them, but we couldn’t write 100% ‘Ryche songs even if we try. This project bears several influences, but I feel like in the end, when you listen to the whole record, you surely can’t compare us with specific bands. As much as we don’t want to reinvent the wheel, I believe this record has a voice of its own. I can tell you that a great amount of work has been put into the album and that we are very happy with the final result. We can’t wait to hear the world’s perception but we are confident that the old US Power Metal lovers will enjoy the record.”
Apart from Queensryche you can hear a bit of Crimson Glory and some prime era Fates Warning in Vigilhunter as well. “I guess you nailed the main references,” confirms Alexx Panza, “Crimson Glory and Fates Warning are surely part of the sound and the era we tried to recreate. I might add Savatage and Vicious Rumors for the purely 'US Heavy Power' side of the record but that said, sometimes ideas come from influences that are so far from what the final results end up being that you wouldn’t even imagine.”

Vultures Vengeance are an upcoming epic metal band in the tradition of Cirith Ungol, Manilla Road and Brocas Helm. They formed in Rome in 2009 and after one demo and two EPs released their first full-length record »The Knightlore« in 2019. The album received encouraging reviews in the underground scene all over the world and is now being followed by »Dust Age«, their debut for High Roller Records.
Tony T. Steele, guitarist and singer of the band, explains what happened with Vultures Vengeance after the release »The Knightlore« in 2019: “We recorded »Dust Age« in October 2020 but in the mean time Covid had arrived and we had to cancel many shows around Europe. So we decided to wait because we wanted to play live after the release, and we had many problems with the line-up because Tony L.A. and Matt Savage decided to quit the band. The research for a new bass player and a new guitarist extended the time for the release of the new album even further.” He continues: “The album was recorded with the old line-up, except for the drummer, Damian. We recorded it at the 16 Cellar Studio in Rome and after that we worked with Marco S. Vermiglio of The Forge studio in Sweden for the mix.”
Steele doesn’t see the new album as a direct continuation of »The Knightlore«: “I think the approach is different, but at the same time the mark of Vultures Vengeance is totally recognizable and not so far away from what we have done in the past.” According to him “the dust age is the vision of a future world in ruins as a consequence of the modern world.” He explains in more detail: “The lyrical themes are different for each song, and they are all allegories of a vision of the modern world told through imaginary tales of war, slavery, corruption and power. If you share these visions, it wouldn’t be too difficult for you to interpret the lyrics.” “My favourite track on »Dust Age« is ‘City Of Thousand Blades’ at the moment,” he continues. “It is actually really old, we have been playing that song since 2009 during rehearsals.”
As mentioned earlier, Vultures Vengeance are widely considered to be an epic metal band, heavily influenced by the sound of Warlord, Brocas Helm, Cirith Ungol, early Manowar or The Lord Weird Slough Feg, and Tony T. Steele doesn’t deny this: “I absolutely love all these bands that you mentioned and I can say that they are a heavy influence in my life, but I would call Vultures Vengeance simply a heavy metal band. I think that the word ‘epic’ only refers to bands who create an ‘ancient’ atmophere in their music and imagery.”

Maltuka from Bergen, Norway, are a new rising force within thrash metal set to go places with their four-track debut EP “Black Rite”. Guitarist/singer Viljar Brunvoll and drummer Mats first collaborated in 2016/17, recording two EPs and playing several shows as members of Psykopath. When that band dissolved, the two continued working together on demos, which eventually gave birth to Maltuka.
With influences ranging from Metallica and Slayer across Nuclear Assault to Teutonic legends Sodom as well as Maltuka’s corpse-painted countrymen Immortal, the members give the tried and tested thrash formula an individual twist. Lyrically, “Black Rite” explores spiritual and occult themes, adding depth and atmosphere to the music.
The EP’s cover art, which is based on a painting by Kim Diaz Holm (Sólstafir, Vreid), visually represents the dark themes of the songs. And while they serve as an introduction to Maltuka’s sound, the group has ambitious plans for their future. “This EP showcases our heavier, more to-the-point style of songwriting,” Viljar comments. “Our eventual first album will be more dynamic, featuring a broader range of influences and sounds.”
With “Black Rite”, Maltuka make a bold statement, offering an original take on thrash metal while also celebrating its roots. The band is ready to make its mark on the global metal scene, and this is just the beginning.
Maltuka are:
Viljar Brunvoll – guitar, vocals
Sondre Hovden – guitar
Mats Hovden – drums
Johannes Gade Glesner – bass
“Black Rite” track listing:
01] Judgement (Intro)
02] Blood Sacrifice
03] Condemnation
04] Xolotl
05] Black Rite

"For each of the 4 great festivals we have performed in 2024, we wanted to offer something unique.
Four new Warlord recordings were offered as free downloads, with the links hosted on the festivals respective websites/social media.
Warlord's return to Greece at the Golden R Festival was a significant event.
Greece has always been very important to Warlord and this was an amazing night for the band and the audience!
Therefore we offered "The Rainbow" as a download, a very early Warlord Demo from the early days that we have newly re-recorded, due to many fans asking us to not overlook this "lost" Warlord song."

Guitarists Magnus Danneblad and Anders Karlsson, bass player Magnus Van Wassenaar and drummer Tommy Johansson started out as Purple Haze in Linköping in 1981. When singer Christer Göransson joined towards the end of the year, they soon changed their name to Genocide and supported local metal heroes Axewitch. A final name change was to follow: In April 1983 Mindless Sinner recorded a five-track demo entitled »Master Of Evil«. This attracted Swedish label Fingerprint Records, and they in turn released the NWOBHM-inspired material as a mini-album. This was followed by the first full-length effort »Turn On The Power« in 1986. The band then signed to Delta Records, suffered several line-up changes and continued as Mindless, finally calling it quits in 1990 after having released the »Missing Pieces« album.
In 2015 Mindless Sinner reformed and unleashed their fantastic comeback record »The New Messiah«, followed by »Poltergeist« five years later. In the course they were invited to appear at several important European metal festivals (such as “Keep It True” in 2015, their show later also being released as an official live album).
With the current line-up of Christer Göransson (vocals), Magnus Danneblad (guitar), Jerker Edman (guitar), Christer Carlson (bass) and Linus Melchiorsen (drums), Mindless Sinner are proud to announce their brand new studio work »Metal Merchants« for High Roller Records.
“I guess »Metal Merchants« picks up where »Poltergeist« left off,” comments original vocalist Christer Göransson. “We feel like »Metal Merchants« is the best we have ever done. Overall, »Poltergeist« got great reviews and it was a very strong record. But it was released like a month before the Covid outbreak struck, so I guess it was left to oblivion. The material on »Metal Merchants« is particularly strong, and also the production and the cover are great.”
Flying the flag for traditional Swedish heavy metal, tunes like the up-tempo opener “Speed Demon” (also the first single) or the title track “Metal Merchants” (a song about the metal community) show how much experience Mindless Sinner have gained over the years. Christer Göransson’s vocal performance is absolutely stunning, as well as the guitar playing of Magnus Danneblad and Jerker Edman, of which the singer says: “The two are very much underrated. Both, Edman and Danneblad, are great players.”

The epic doom metal band Capilla Ardiente (a Spanish expression translated as “burning chapel”) was founded in Chile’s capital Santiago in 2006. Up until now, they have issued one EP and two albums, »Bravery, Truth And The Endless Darkness« (2014) and »The Siege« (2019), both for High Roller Records.
Their brand new album »Where Gods Live And Men Die« was once again recorded by Felipe Plaza Kutzbach (vocals), Julio Bórquez (guitar), Igor Leiva (guitar), Claudio Botarro Neira (bass) and Francisco Aguirre (drums). Felipe Plaza Kutzbach is also singing for Procession (sharing duties with Claudio Botarro Neira) as well as the reborn Scald (from the Russian Republic).
»Where Gods Live And Men Die« was recorded, produced, mixed and mastered by the band’s guitar player Igor Leiva, at Atomic Noise Studios in Santiago de Chile. Drums were recorded at Equinox Studios (in Rancagua) and the vocals at Audiocustom Studios (Santiago).
Just like its predecessor »The Siege«, the new album once again contains four very long song, which is not a coincidence, as bass player Claudio Botarro Neira points out: “It’s the way we have developed to tell the stories contained in our lyrics. If our songs are long, it’s because they have many different passages. We tend to see our songs in a sort of ‘cinematographical’ way, where the music has to provide the proper background to tell our tales.”
Consequently, »Where Gods Live And Men Die« has a very specific lyrical concept as well: “In a way, it’s the closing story to our two previous albums and our first EP. Again, it’s a solitary journey, but this time it’s the final chapter, a tale of departure. It deals with personal loss, wounds from the youth, disease and the need to overcome and transcend by willpower.”
Incorporating quite a few Bathory »Hammerheart« era and early Manowar influences, »Where Gods Live And Men Die« shows that Capilla Ardiente are way more than an orthodox epic doom metal band. The bass player explains how the music of the band has developed over the years: “I think that since the first EP, and due to the limitations brought by being just two musicians on a quest, we have been moving from a more traditional and in your face doom riffing style to a more epic/broad sound, which can be noted in the progression from the »Solve Et Coagula« EP to the first album »Bravery, Truth And The Endless Darkness«. We have become better musicians, I guess. With »The Siege«, and as a five-piece band, I think Capilla Ardiente has finally found its own, unique style, which is quite evident on »Where Gods Live And Men Die«. And I don’t think our future songs will differ much more in terms of heavyness or complexity.”
