The mechanism for a Skraup reaction which involves the synthesis of a quinoline from the reaction of an aniline and glycerol in the presence of a strong acid and an oxidant. Mechanistic studies suggest that the reaction involves the reversible formation of diazetidinium ions and their irreversible cyclization to quinolines.
