SIR ALEC GUINNESS - English actor and Sci-fi icon.
After an early career on the stage, Alec Guinness came to prominence on film as Herbert Pocket in GREAT EXPECTATIONS. This was quickly followed by Fagin in OLIVER TWIST. He also notably featured in several of the Ealing Comedies, including THE LADYKILLERS and KIND HEARTS AND CORONETS. Other famous roles include Col. Nicholson in THE BRIDGE ON THE RIVER KWAI (1957), for which he won the Academy Award for Best Actor, Prince Faisal in LAWRENCE OF ARABIA (1962) and Yevgraf in DOCTOR ZHIVAGO.
Later in life Sir Alec became known to a new generation as Obi-Wan Kenobi in George Lucas’s original STAR WARS trilogy, receiving a nomination for an Academy Award for Best Supporting Actor. For STAR WARS Sir Alec negotiated a percentage of the box office takings. Wise man.
