Guillermo del Toro loves the work of H.P. Lovecraft, and tries whenever possible to leave the imprint of the master of Providence in his films. The Shape of Water's lead monster is a close relative of the Deep Ones of Innsmouth, but if we compare the end of the film and the end of Dagon, Stuart Gordon's film, the resemblance is more than reasonable (unconscious, but reasonable). #shorts
