Meet the bowmouth guitarfish, a rare and remarkable species now thriving at Shedd Aquarium’s Wild Reef. With the head of a ray, the tail of a shark and a snout shaped like a bow, this unique animal — also known as the shark ray —is as fascinating as it is threatened.
Because bowmouths are in need of species-focused effort, Shedd Aquarium helped form the Shark Ray 360 Consortium, a group of organizations dedicated to the conservation research of this species.
