We're getting really close to finishing the build--in fact, today we glue everything up for the carcass, or main body.

It should be a rather straightforward process if you've done everything right, and it's all fitting well.

I like to do one last test fit, and go from there.

I'll be pegging or doweling all the component, as opposed to drawboring them. I'll also be making my own dowels out of the 2x4 material.

To make the dowels, I use an old mounting bracket/plate from a light fixture. I split out small pieces and whittle them down until they are only slightly larger than the hole I'm going to force them through. Then, I just taper one end to a point and hammer it through the hole, and voilá, a nice dowel.

Then, I drill holes from inside the night stand body, through the mortise/tenon joint, and about 3/16 past the joint.

Lastly, I glue and drive in the dowels/pegs.

It turned out great, with only minor issues. I mess up the install on one side and only noticed as the glue was starting to dry. When I went ahead and fixed it, I broke the leg at the top. So that had to be repaired. In the end, not a problem, just a bit stressful.

As always, thanks for watching! See you next videos when I make the drawer!
