We were on a family vacation in Gatlinburg, TN and it was the last night of our trip. I got up from our family movie to get a drink of water when I saw the neighbor across the street honking and flashing his lights to get my attention. I thought to myself, "oh cool, there must be a black bear nearby!" There was but it was in my van. Excuse the quality of camera work. Lions Head camping: Dolly Sods, WV 3 day backpacking trip Tim Watson 2024-01-16 | Yes, I'm still alive and doing great. Thanks for everyone who reached out. I've just been busy. Dolly Sods is a fun place to visit and we decided to do something a little different. We wanted to camp at Lion's Head the first night so we quickly visited Bear Rocks, parked at Blackbird Knob trailhead and then headed from there straight to Lion's Head. We actually had a bear encounter at Lion's Head but fortunately no real issues otherwise. After the first night we headed back towards Bear Rocks taking in all the ridge views and then road walked ack down to the car. Exploring Cuyahoga Valley National Park by Bike and Train Tim Watson 2022-07-26 | So here's something a little different. We decided to do around 27 miles on the Ohio and Erie Canalway towpath. The towpath trail goes through Cuyahoga Valley National Park (CVNP). As an added bonus this stretch is covered by the Explorer program which means a train ride along the 27-28 miles for the price of $5 as of 2022. Hope you guys enjoy. CVNP is one of the most visited national parks in the country with over 2 million visitors each year. Backpacking Mount Cammerer & Clingmans Dome Tim Watson 2022-07-11 | It's been a minute since I've been on a backpacking trip. 3 days backpacking in Washington state: Goat Rocks Wilderness Tim Watson 2021-08-31 | READ ME! Life update if you’re interested. I was feeling nostalgic when I wrote this so I may change it later:Hey everyone I hope you enjoy this video from backpacking in Washington this summer. As you can tell my videos have gotten less frequent. All is well with me and mine. Life just has gotten busy. I joined a local fire department as a volunteer (!!!), have gotten REALLY into smoking/grilling meat and bbq on my Weber kettle, find myself running to kids’ practices/events, getting more involved with my church and of course squeeze my job and relationships in there. I have had to come to terms with the fact that I can’t do EVERYTHING. Although sometimes I would like to. I’ll still post videos but be aware that they all may not strictly be backpacking and if it is backpacking related I may have a kid with me. I'm not done backpacking. It's just not going to be as big of a focus as it once was. That makes me a little sad but life moves on, we grow, change and refocus. My friend Josh said it really well (quoting The Office) when he said, “I wish there was a way to know you were in the good old days before you’ve actually left them.” I started this channel 5 years ago (!!!) when I was in a terrible work situation with an awful boss and I needed an outlet. In 2016 I backpacked pictured rocks, RRG and the maroon bells! I lost a lot of weight and was just getting into backpacking. Go back and peruse those videos if you’d like. It’s definitely a trip down memory lane. I just wanted to say thank you. Thanks for supporting and being there. You’ve been a great audience and this isn’t goodbye. Backpacking and Hammock Camping on the Appalachian Trail: The Virginia Triple Crown Tim Watson 2021-05-24 | This backpacking trip was one that we didn't think was going to happen. Ultimately we decided to hike along the Appalachian Trail in Virginia. We've never backpacked there before but the opportunity came up to complete the famous Virginia Triple Crown. If you're familiar with it includes three amazing sights: McAfee Knob, Tinker Cliffs and Dragon's Tooth. I mention it several times in the video but this was one of the most challenging hikes we've done on the East Coast. We didn't have to complete the entire backpacking loop but instead opted to stash cars at McAfee and Dragon's Tooth trailheads. This was a fun video to rewatch and edit. Lots of camaraderie, injuries, beautiful scenery and epic views. The TOUGHEST trip Ive ever done: Backpacking the Colorado Holy Cross Wilderness for 4 days Tim Watson 2020-08-06 | This was my hardest and toughest backpacking trip to date. Solo backpacking trip on Michigans Manistee River Trail Tim Watson 2019-05-22 | So I decided to take a solo backpacking trip in Michigan. I've always wanted to do the Manistee River Trail loop and here was the opportunity. My original plan was to complete the loop with two nights but the terrain is fairly flat and I was able to complete the entire thing in an overnight. The manistee side is very pretty at spots but also very busy while the North Country Trail (NCT) side is also very pretty and quiet. 3 days backpacking and hammock camping Red River Gorge: Cloudsplitter, Stargap Arch, Skyview Tim Watson 2019-04-01 | Wow this was a super fun backpacking trip to Red River Gorge. We got to cram in the major features which included Cloudsplitter, Cloudsplitter Arch, Indian Staircase, Skyview Arch, Stargap Arch and Jailhouse Rock. We got to spend some time camping at Hanson' Point and hanging out with some other youtubers. Most of us were hammock camping as you'll see in the video but we did have some tent campers as well. Tarptent Rainshadow 3 review Tim Watson 2019-02-26 | One of my favorite tents of the year has to be the rainshadow 3 from Tarptent. This tent has been used all of last year on backpacking trips and family camping trips. It's proven to be a fantastic, lightweight part of my ultralight backpacking gear loadout (when I have the kids with me). It's been tested well by having my three kids run in and out of it constantly and it has survived. Backpacking fail! Snow filled SOLO overnight in Cumberland Gap National Park Tim Watson 2018-12-11 | Wow was this a backpacking fail! I originally intended on making this backpacking trip to the Smoky mountains in North Carolina/Tennessee but ended up detouring to Cumberland Gap National Park. I spent a very snow filled overnight and got to practice some significant winter hiking. The area was absolutely gorgeous covered in the snow. My ultralight backpacking cook kit Tim Watson 2018-11-13 | I haven't shown my ultralight backpacking cook kit before! Here it comes in at a whopping 5.7 ounces according to my scale. One of the only "modifications" I've made is changing the lid for one from Four dog stoves. Most of my backpacking trail meals are rehydrating food which speaks to the simplicity of my overall kit.
