My first collection run to Optera IV as commanding officer of the Ko'Falgrin is now underway, and I confess that I'm as conflicted as ever. The lifeforms will emerge soon, and we'll be there to herd them into the pens and take them back to Kavia Prime. Our best scientists assure me they're nothing more than giant, mindless bugs that happen to produce the tetryons that power our civilization, yet I can't help but pity them. They'll spend their remaining decades restricted in crates, linked to a power grid that drains them of their very essence. Poor devils. Still, at this point in Kavian history, we've grown so dependent upon them that I doubt it's even possible for us to disentangle ourselves from these creatures. My duty to my people is clear. The collection on Optera IV must proceed.
