For more than a century, Scovell Hall has stood as a symbol of the University of Kentucky’s commitment to agricultural research, education and service to the Commonwealth.
Completed in 1903 as the home of the Kentucky Agricultural Experiment Station, the building was named for Melville Amasa Scovell, the station’s founding director and the second dean of the College of Agriculture. As the university’s research and service mission expanded, additions in 1912-13 and 1935 helped Scovell Hall meet Kentucky’s evolving needs.
Following a transformative renovation, Scovell Hall once again serves as a central home for the University of Kentucky Martin-Gatton College of Agriculture, Food and Environment. The renewed 92,000-square-foot facility brings together academic programs, college administration, student spaces, classrooms, a teaching kitchen and the Lemon Tree restaurant.
This video was presented during the Scovell Hall ribbon-cutting celebration, honoring the building’s history and the generations who will continue its legacy of improving lives across Kentucky.
