Build a bee house and save the bees! - LMSAT Lets Make Something Awesome Together 2019-05-19 | This project is mainly to help save the bee population by providing them a nice ready to move into home. By drilling holes, we give them the perfect spot for them to lay their eggs, and following a few guidelines I talk about in the video, it also can be a very safe spot for them. In addition to saving the bees, which is a worthy goal in itself, this also was selfishly built to bring more bees to my garden to help pollinate my flowers. How to easily melt aluminum chips - quick tip - LMSAT Lets Make Something Awesome Together 2018-10-03 | Quick tip on how to reuse chips from machining aluminum. I found that dumping them in by the handful was kind of a dumb way to do it. So I came up with the idea to pack them into aluminum cans first, then throw the can in the crucible while it is in the foundry. I've had this vintage Everready Globe for a few years now and never really used it because it takes 3 D cell batteries to power a tiny 3.7v light. When I was planning this, I thought I'd need to 3D print something fancy to hold the 18650 cells. But turns out, they fit almost perfectly in the battery holders. To take it a step further, I've added a protection and charging circuit to keep this light glowing bright! Basically some assholes put out shitty content and it ended up punishing everybody. Hey, I can swear now that I’m demonetized already.My channel got the cut even though I’ve been monetized for the last two years, since I barely didn’t meet their new requirements of over 1,000 subs (I have) and 4,000 view hours in the last 12 months (I have just under 3,000).It sucks, but I was never into this for material gain or to become famous, I just want to share my knowledge and inspire creativity with you guys. However, I was hoping to get a little bit of a kickback to help pay for supplies and cover some expensive involved with making these videos. I’m also worried that if my channel isn’t monetized anymore, the youtube algorithm will have no incentive to show my content over a monetized channel, because they aren’t receiving any ad revenue from it. Multi-voltage benchtop power supply from broken iMac - LMSAT Lets Make Something Awesome Together 2018-02-06 | Thought I'd salvage some parts from a broken 2005 iMac that has been in my closet for 4 years. Logic board was fried and it wasn't worth repairing. I was working on a project that I needed 12v and 5v and didn't feel like converting the voltage with a buck converter. So among the other components I salvaged, I decided to try and repurpose the power supply for this task. Surprisingly, it went very smoothly. Aside from the 3D print coming out terribly. I was using some old ABS and also printed the wall thickness a bit too thin.Nonetheless, I was rewarded with a nice multi-voltage power supply that should come in handy for future electronics projects. Easy to make holiday craft that sells fast! - LMSAT Lets Make Something Awesome Together 2017-12-11 | Since buying one of those cheap laser engravers (like this one, http://amzn.to/2iOTkom), I've been cranking out these laser engraved ornaments as fast as I can make them. This year I decided to use birch slices for a more festive look. But you can use any branch that you have on hand. Since I've been making them so fast, I had to dry the wood in an oven before engraving. If you don't have a laser engraver, you could easily make a stencil or hand paint these designs. If you don't have a bandsaw, you can carefully chop these on a miter saw, or use a handsaw. These things are selling like crazy at a store featuring handmade items a few blocks away from my house (check them out, http://handmadekalamazoo.com/). Calculating 4th Axis Drill Pattern and CAM in Fusion360 - LMSAT Lets Make Something Awesome Together 2017-12-06 | One of my latest challenges at work involved figuring out where to drill spot holes for a badge on the headtube of the electric scooter we are custom building (http://www.fidomotors.com/). Problem came up when I discovered that fusion doesn't accurately calculate arc length and the holes were being drilled in the incorrect location.So, I brushed off my thinking cap and dug into some maths. It took me a while to figure out exactly how to calculate this, but ended up using the formula for calculating arc length ( arc length = radius * central angle (in radians)) to figure out my central angle to use in my fusion sketch. After spending a couple hours working on this, I found an online calculator (omnicalculator.com/math/arc-length) that solves this problem very quickly. This video is most likely only going to be relevant to less than 0.01% of the world. Easy, Spooky Topographical Skull in Fusion 360 - LMSAT Lets Make Something Awesome Together 2017-10-09 | Wanted to play around with some spooky 3D printing using a new technique I discovered recently. This model was created from a highly detailed skull using the CAM environment in Fusion 360. By simulating a CNC operation with a large step down, it gives the appearance of a topographical map. How to remove chip weld from an endmill - LMSAT Quick Tip Lets Make Something Awesome Together 2017-09-25 | Pushed a job a little too hard and ended up chip welding a brand new $70+ endmill. Rather than scrap it, I decided to experiment with some chemicals to remove the chip weld build-up. I recently used this muriatic acid and hydrogen peroxide solution to do some etching on aluminum (and brass) and thought it would work to eat away the chips welded to the flute.Worked a treat and saved us $70 for a new endmill. This process requires you to have a vinyl plotter (or getting cut vinyl made from a sign shop). Instead of using photo emulsion and burning a screen. LMSAT - Hops Branded Walnut Keychain w/ Shackle Lets Make Something Awesome Together 2016-12-14 | Since I had some scrap walnut and aluminum laying around, I thought I'd add my thick line hops design to a wooden keychain. If you don't have access to an x-carve (or other cnc), you could add your own design using a laser engraver, wood burning tool, paint, etc.The shackles that are used can be pretty expensive at your local hardware store, so I'd suggest picking them up on amazon for much cheaper. Chuck it into a drill and run through your belt sander.
