We forgot to mention these are 120 Ohm and do benefit from a decent headphone amp, Something like the ifi Zen Can or Topping L20 / A30 Pro would do really well for a modest investment if your interface hasn't got enough power.

The original Aeon 2 Planar magnetic headphone was a fantastic closed back model, but Dan Clark has reworked it for a re-voiced and slightly more power efficient 'Noire' version and i can't now think of a better lightweight closed back for the studio. Best used with an amp circuit with a bit of power behind it, UA Apollo X rack units are perfect, or pick up something like the ifi Zen Can and run it from the line outputs.

Don't think of this as an interface, think of it more as a 2 Channel Digital Studiolive desk with a software mixer that not only has physical and headphone outputs, but also two 'loopback' channels that you can use to connect in people on applications like Zoom, Teams, Skype or Discord and create separate mixes for them.
Want one to hear you, the other and both of them hear game sound, or a music bed? ... that's not a problem here, in fact its about the most advanced DSP routing that we've seen in a USB interface.

We keep seeing comments about how people are not certain choosing some fantastic value studio monitors like Adam T7V, JBL 305's and Genelecs because they are rear ported and they have to go close to a wall. We're here to tell you that you really don't need to worry and actually, right up close to the wall might actually just be the best place for them!

Headphone amps are often underestimated in their importance for mix and mastering engineers, but this new desktop unit from iFi is simply STUNNING value with top level performance (as you've probably got a pretty decent DAC anyway)
We've got behind this so much that we've commissioning 4.4mm cables especially for it, its THAT GOOD!!! Whatever interface you have, this will drive your headphones with more headroom, separation, definition and clarity.
Our Studio Headphones: scan.co.uk/shop/music-and-pro-audio/studio-headphones/open-back-headphones
Dan Clark Audio (Mr Speakers) Aeon 2 may just be the most portable high end, full size mix headphone ever, somewhat ironically released just before the biggest change in travel habits of a lifetime.
However, there's loads of advantages in the studio for a good closed back set, most notably tracking or just avoiding the sound of the kids a bit more between passes.
Planar Drivers, Lightweight, compact and portable, what's not to like!

Using a digital desk with a DAW fader layer can have many advantages, especially when its as integrated as tightly as Studio One 5 and the Studiolive desks. Tom delves a bit deeper into seeing how well the desk functions with the software.
We know a few (hundred) of you grabbed some of our bargain £69 B-grade sets recently, but I've always been disappointed with the sonarworks corrective preset for them. I managed to check them against toneboosters morphit, though that had a bit too much top end (and a little bit low on the kick region), when we compare against the signatures of the A-grade studio headphones we have here (Audeze, Focal etc)
So, here's a free corrective preset for Fabfilter Pro-Q (2 or 3) that should be much more accurate and balanced for mixing. This won't magically turn your headphones into £4000 Audeze's (as it can't add detail, just adjust tonal balance), but should get a lot better translation for your mixes with them.
Otherwise you can try and duplicate the curve with another EQ, but I really do recommend pro-q 3 for this.
Put the eq as the last plugin on your master or monitor bus (don’t forget to disable before you bounce, of course)

It's no surprise that Audient have come up with a fantastic new £99 two channel interface, but faced with the SM7B, notoriously one of the most difficult mics to use without an extra preamp, due to its low output level, how does it fare? Tom goes and takes a look.

Then we go further down the rabbit hole and see what effect Sonarworks, Morphit and other correction plugins have, and do you really need them and what works best?
Don't forget to look out for the codeword in the video that UK & EU viewers can mail in to get access to some exclusive headphone deals.

The Nerve MKII is a seriously high-gain distortion pedal, designed with heavy and aggressive styles in mind. Capable of tones from a mild crunch, to chainsaw-like distortion, the Nerve allows for excellent control and always remains tight and punchy, unlike some other high-gain pedals which can often times suffer from sounding too fizzy and thin.
The Nerve MKII holds a wide variety of high-gain distortions underneath it’s tough metal chassis. Using the Nerve’s control panel, we’re able to mould the distortion to precisely how we’d like it. Prefer a more British style sound? No problem. Maybe the tight, high-gain American sound is more your kind of style? Sorted, all bases covered.

The Crown works fantastically well when used to bring that ‘crunch’ and overdriven sound to an amp at a lower volume, or in bringing the classic British sound to any other amplifier. Tsakalis’s Crown overdrive utilises JFET technology (junction gate field-effect transistor) and from combining three calibrated stages in cascade mode, the resulting tone is a beautifully smooth, creamy, tube-like crunch

There's two channels, with independent volume and drive controls, sharing one versatile tone control. Ch 2 has a dedicated gain boost switch, delivering more gain and punch, making it even rounder and more satisfying.
Fully detailed, rich and beefy tones render this pedal perfect for every style, delivering the ‘mojo’ of a vintage TS with a modern touch. It can be used as a stand alone overdrive pedal or as a booster to push an amp for extra bite and sustain.

Its no wonder that these pedals caused a real stir at the last NAMM show. Each pedal not only sounds great in its primary role as a Phaser, or Flanger or Overdrive,
but you usually find that Chris has built in a little quirkiness somewhere along the line.
This video is a brief introduction to the range of Tsakalis effects pedals and why we here at Scan Pro Audio think they’re well worth taking some time to check them out….
