I analyze pacing, colours, dialogue, game design, empathy, and the themes of Silent Hill: Homecoming, which is (probably) the worst Silent Hill game. It just kind of ends, but that's okay. I had fun with it (in its own way) and I hope you enjoy my playthrough!

Why did things have to be like this? References to games that were better. Unfortunate attempts at modernizing the Silent Hill brand that (especially now) feel archaic and mired in a desire to be with the times (see: bland military action shooter), rather than the more timeless, melancholic approach of previous games. Long strings of "press x to watch animation of man jumping". Characters with no character outside of lore wikis or text documents. Silent Hill: Homecoming is sadly not a very good game... but occasionally moments of "being good" bubble threateningly to the surface.

--
So this video has been one hell of a journey. I originally started conceiving of it and writing it in the aftermath of releasing the first video on Forbidden Siren. But things just weren't clicking. So I put it in a drawer to think about for a while, took it back out late last year, and started afresh. I chipped away at it, trying to refine it and the ideas behind it. I'm proud of what I have created here and hope that it serves as a continuation - an expansion - of the first video. A refinement of the ideas that I presented there, and a much more thorough presentation of hauntology as a concept. I think it is a fantastic game with fantastic ideas, and I hope I've done it justice.
Not all of the footage is mine. I have to thank 77elvistheking and Scissormon for a few sequences of gameplay footage, and Nikodem R for their capture of Kunitoris. As my playthrough was done on PS2, I only went back to my completed emulated version on PCSX2 for some footage, but I didn't get everything I wanted. I still need to sort out a better way to get footage, or just record while I'm playing - but that's difficult obviously in the situation I'm in, with no expensive equipment or anything. The decision to keep most of the footage at its original aspect ratio was to attempt to increase the haunted feeling of the footage :)
Thanks to everyone for your patience, and especially to my patrons: Frankaloons, Futurecityscape, BlueVoices, and YoveOst. But to you, reading, and watching - you rock.

So, this is my last video (at least for a very long time) on Silent Hill 2... I made it a long one.
It is a reflection on the spaces that have been comforting and confronting to me, and also on a game which has made a significant impact on me as a player of video games. It is also the last of my planned trilogy of Silent Hill 2 videos I talked about earlier on, in both the Lakeview Hotel Restaurant video, and in the Baldwin Manor / Stillwater video.
I have never made a video so long before, and it was an experiment to be sure. There were difficulties getting it across the finish line. It was, frankly, exhausting. The other difficulty was, namely, that I have been working on one version or another of this video since 2021. It has taken many forms and part of me is still uncertain as to whether I have managed to do a good job with it. I have done my best to polish up audio and visuals. I don't exactly have a professional recording studio, but I think I've done a good job, all things considered. I'm proud of what I've made - although I'm sure I'll look back on it soon and think of things I could have done better. That will be reflected in the next video instead!
To clarify: the footage is from the Enhanced Edition of Silent Hill 2, a fan mod for the PC version of the game. I would have loved to have recorded from my PS2, but I don't have a capture card yet!
Thanks to everyone who has supported the channel thus far, I really do appreciate it. Thanks also to my partner who put up with me editing this for far too late into several nights!
It has been a long, difficult journey to get this video out there. But now, it feels like I can finally rest. :)
Thanks, Silent Hill 2. You made me... happy. I hope I did you justice.

Watch live at twitch.tv/horrorgameanalysisI finish Silent Hill: Origins so you dont have to [Stream Archive 3]Horror Game Analysis2023-07-12 | It's over now. One of the worst Silent Hill games. Still not truly awful, but pretty bad - the plot is wafer-thin and the characterization goes unexplained. The final boss is just a generic demon, nowhere near as interesting as Incubus OR Incubator from the original game. Two plots basically fight each other for screentime and neither of them win. The combat is dull, the boss fights are way too easy - but at least there are some cool puzzles, environments, and music throughout. A solid 5/10. A way to scratch a generic classic survival horror itch, but not frightening and not that interesting.
And no, we don't count Book of Memories.
