Cantiga 23 Como Deus fez vynno dagua
updated
In monte Oliveti
oravit ad Patrem:
Pater, si fieri potest,
transeat a me calix iste;
spiritus quidem promptus est,
caro autem infirma.
Fiat voluntas tua.
Vigilate et orate
ut non intretis in tentationem
spiritus quidem promptus est,
caro autem infirma.
Fiat voluntas tua.
En el Monte de los Olivos
oró al Padre:
"Padre, si es posible,
pase de mí este cáliz;
On the Mount of Olives
he prayed to his Father:
"Father, if it be possible,
let his cup pass from me.
The spirit indeed is willing,
but the flesh is weak.
Let your will be done".
Keep watch and pray
that you will not fall into temptation.
The spirit indeed is willing,
but the flesh is weak.
Let your will be done.
faites que ce calice s'éloigne de moi;
car si l'esprit est prompt la chair est faible;
Que Votre volonté soit faite".
Veillez et priez,
afin que vous ne tombiez pas das la tentation;

This is in praise of Holy Mary, concerning the difference which exists between Ave and Eva.
"There is a great difference between Ave and Eva."
Although Eva took Paradise and God from us, Ave restored it to us. Therefore, my friends: there is a great difference between Ave and Eva.
Eva thrust us into the devil's chains, and Ave took us out again, and for this reason: there is a great difference between Ave and Eva.
Eva caused us to lose our love for God and good, and Ave caused us to have it again, hence: there is a great difference between Ave and Eva.
Eva locked us out of Heaven and threw away the key, but Mary broke open the doors with "Ave": there is a great difference between Ave and Eva.

This is about a miracle which Holy Mary performed in Faro* when it belonged to the Moors.
"He who insults Her image greatly grieves Holy Mary, and She punishes him severely."
Concerning this, I shall tell of a miracle which the Holy Virgin Mary performed in Faro in the times of Aben Mafon*, who ruled the kingdom of the Algarve then as a courageous man in times of war or peace.
In that fortress there was a statue, as I learned, of the Glorious Virgin, made, as I shall describe for you, of skillfully carved stone. It was standing, as I found out for certain, on the shore facing out to sea.
It was known to have stood there ever since the time of the Christians, and hence the captives always prayed to it. They named the city Holy Mary of Faro for this reason.
However, the wicked moorish folk who were there resented this greatly and angrily threw it into the sea with great scorn. However, the Virgin, who holds the world in Her power and abhors arrogance, performed a great miracle because of this.
She caused them not to be able to catch any fish while they left that statue lying in the water. The Moors, when they saw this, raised it out of there and put it on the wall between the merlons.
From then on they caught more fish there than they had ever caught before, as I heard from Moors and Christians who told me the tale. Therefore, let us praise the Virgin in whom such beneficence lies.
* Faro: This is a port city on the southern coast of Portugal, capital of the province of Algarve.
* Aben Mafon: This is Musa ibn Muhammad ibn Nusair ibn Mahfudh, king of Niebla* and vassal of Alfonso X until Alfonso's conquest of Niebla in 1262.
*Niebla: Town and municipality located in the province of Huelva, in Andalusia, Spain

Alma Redemptoris mater,
quæ pervia cæli porta manes,
et stella maris,
succurre cadenti.
Surgere qui curat, populo:
tu quæ genuisti,
natura mirante,
tuum sanctum Genitorem
virgo prius ac posterius,
Gabrielis ab ore
sumens illud ave,
peccatorum miserere.
Madre del Redentor, virgen fecunda,
puerta del cielo siempre abierta,
estrella del mar,
ven a librar al pueblo que tropieza
y se quiere levantar.
Ante la admiración de cielo y tierra,
engendraste a tu santo Credor,
y permaneces siempre Virgen.
Recibe el saludo del ángel Gabriel,
y ten piedad de nosotros, pecadores.
Loving mother of the Redeemer,
gate of heaven, star of the sea,
assist your people who have fallen
yet strive to rise again.
To the wonderment of nature
you bore your Creator,
yet remained a virgin after as before,
You who received Gabriel's joyful greeting,
have pity on us poor sinners.

How Holy Mary cured a woman of Saint Martial's fire which had eaten away her whole face.
"In God's name, such a Lady is very powerful who can take away all pain and suffering."
This Lady I speak of is Holy Mary, who prays constantly to God, Her Son the King, to save us from the infernal fire and likewise from the fire of this world, and also from another which occurs, as I have heard tell, sometimes around Saint Martial's day (June 30).
Of this affliction She once cured Gondianda/Gondiana, a woman who prayed to Her so fervently that not a sign was left of that wildfire which had scarred her so severely that she covered her face with a veil in mortal anguish.
The Virgin cured this woman so completely that the eroded flesh became smooth and took on its natural color.
It was so beautiful that all who looked at her praised the Virgin, who is asylum of the unfortunate, with heartfelt tears.

How Holy Mary saved the painter whom the devil had tried to kill because he painted him ugly.
"The devil can do no harm to the one Holy Mary defends."
Concerning this, I wish to relate a miracle of how Holy Mary saved a painter of Hers who tried to paint Her as beautiful as he could.
He always painted the devil uglier than anything else, and therefore, the devil said:
-"Why do you hold me in disdain, and why do you make me look so bad to all who see me?"
The painter said:
-"I do this to you with reason, for you always do evil and will never have anything to do with good."
When he said this, the devil got angry and threatened to kill the painter and sought a way to make him die quickly.
Therefore, one day he spied him there, as I learned, as he was painting the image of the Virgin. He tried to compose it very well, as I am told, so that She would appear very beautiful. However, then the devil, in whom all evil lies, caused a great wind to blow, as when a thunderstorm draws near.
That wind entered the church and knocked down to the ground the platform on which the painter was standing. However, he called on the Virgin, Mother of God, to come to his rescue.
She came to his aid at once and made him hang on to the brush with which he was painting, and so he did not fall nor could the devil harm him in any way.
The people came at once at the loud crash the falling timbers made, and they saw the devil blacker than pitch flee from the church where he met his defeat.
Then they saw how the painter was hanging by his brush, and they gave thanks for this to the Mother of Our Lord, who assists Her own in time of great trouble.

Engendrado, no creado,
a juzgar a vivos y muertos
cuyo reino no tendrá fin.

We must look to the Lord
from whose hands
bounty flows
in abundance to all.
II. Weep, poor Castile,
weep for King Sancho.
Earth, sea and sky
mourn and lament, filled with grief.
Think of your fate,
mourn, with the father, the son
who, though young in years,
stuns the kingdom
in undergoing injury and death.
III. Whence comes this water
that makes my eyes a fountain of tears,
so that day and night my people mourn
their murdered son?
IV. O you nuns of Burgos,
mourn your daughter
who, innocent, is given in tribute.
You have lost her,
but you may rejoice in victory,
since she shines in everlasting glory.

Comienza Lamentación del profeta Jeremías.
ALEF.
HE.
Lección I de Viernes Santo
Lamentación del profeta Jeremías.
JET.
Lección I de Sábado Santo
JET. El amor de Yavé no se ha acabado, ni se han agotado sus misericordias;
JET. se renuevan cada mañana. Si, tu fidelidad es grande.
JET.
YOD. Que se siente solitario y silencioso cuando Dios se lo impone;
Nuestra herencia pasó a extranjeros, nuestras casas a extraños.
Intro flauta/flute: Cantiga 300 = GRUPO SEMA
This is in praise of Holy Mary
A man should always praise Holy Mary and proclaim Her goodness.
For surely the One should be proclaimed whom God chose as His Mother and, being He Her Father and She, Daughter and Handmaiden, caused Her to be so greatly honored and beloved that without equal She is estreemed and praised and so shall be as long as He shall reign.
Likewise we should praise Her because of whom we are honored by God and also pardoned of the sins which we commit, for we believe that we should suffer for this, but we believe and know that She can protect us.
We should speak well of Her, without fail, for She speaks well for us before God and is our Defender and works for us and attacks and combats the devil and causes him to be of no consequence, unable to do us harm.
Therefore, I beg Her to pay no heed to what evil folk say, for I am on Her side and I constantly praise Her and I sing for Her, ever pondering and seeking ways to honor Her.
May She give them the rewards they deserve, because they so little appreciate my songs and melodies and verses and poetic dialogues that I compose for Her, for they reveal base hearts to me in this.
Furthermore, may She have mercy on how I wasted my days seeking ways and means to give wealth and inheritance where I could never find truth and loyalty, strive as I might, but instead, malice and falseness witch which they try to kill me.
Verbum caro factum est,
(La palabra/El verbo se hizo carne)
porque todos os salvéis.
Y la Virgen le decia:
¡Vida de la vida mía!
Hijo mio, ¿que os haría
que no tengo en que os echéis?
Verbum caro factum est,
porque todos os salvéis.
¡Oh riquezas temporales!
¿No tenéis nada que darle
a Jesús que entre animales
es nacido según véis?
Verbum caro factum est,
porque todos os salvéis.
The Word was made flesh
for the salvation of you all.
And the Virgin said to him:
Life of my life, O my darling Son,
what shall I make for you?
Yet I have nothing on which
to lay you down.
The Word is made flesh
for the salvation of you all
O temporary riches!
will you not give some swaddling clothes
to Jesus, who is born among the animals,
as you can see?

If I were in a court where the law is upheld
I would complain of my lady, even though she is good
and beautiful, that she threatens me wrongly
and does not keep to her agreements.
She promises what she does not give me
and has no concern for sin or shameful conduct.
It would had been better had she been hostile from
the first, rather than keeping me in such agitation;
but she behaved like one who lures her prey:
with her sweet appearance she brought me to mortal
anguish, from which I can never be cured without her
help; a curse on such prefect beauty!
In other matters she is courtly and discerning,
but she does wrong in being so eager to hurt me;
the pain she infl icts is worse than a chronic
tooth-ache in the jaw. She strikes at my heart and
wounds me, for she knows no restraint, in the
whole of Provence her love destroys me.
When I do not see my Rainier of Marseilles,
my life is not worth living;
the sick man with a recurring fever
does not recover easily, but he dies if his illness
continues, so I shall die if this desire
which takes my breath away persists.
It seems to me I will have conquered her with difficulty,
because no lady is so harsh to her lover;
the more I have ever served her with all my strength
the more ill-tempered she is to me.
I love her so much that I am indeed more mad than the
mad shepherd playing his pipes on the hill (of the Puy).
He who is in power of love is vanquished;
I was overcome when I saw my lady,
for no other creature can compare to her
in perfect joy an in moral perfection.
I am hers and will be as I live, and if she refuses me she
will be doing wrong and going too far.
Go, song, to the noble queen
in Aragon, for I know of no more true queen
in the world, and I have sought out many,
but have found no other so blameless and so devoid of
anger. For she is generous, loyal and gracious
to men and pleasing to God.
Since this king is so far above all others,
such a queen is fi tting for such a king.
Fine Castiat, your reputation reigns
above all others, for it is enhanced by the best deeds.
All things are in Thy will, O Lord;
and there is none that can resist Thy will:
for Thou hast made all things, heaven and earth,
and all things that are under the cope of heaven:
Thou are the Lord of all.
Blessed are the undefiled in the way;
who walk in the law of the Lord.

Assumpsit Iesus petrum, et Iacobum,
et Ioannem fratrem eius,
et duxit eos in montem excelsum seorsum,
et transfiguratus est ante eos.
Et ecce vox de nube dicens:
Hic est filius meus dilectus,
in quo mihi bene complacui, ipsum audite.
Jesús tomó a Pedro, Santiago
Jesus took Peter, and James,
and John his brother,
and brought them up into an high mountain
apart and was transfigured before them.
And behold the voice of the cloud, saying:
This is my beloved Son,
in whom I am well pleased, hear ye him.

Lo busqué, pero no lo hallé;
lo llamé, pero no me respondió
Yo os conjuro, oh doncellas de Jerusalén,
si hallareis a mi amado,
hacerle saber que de amor enferma estoy.
(Song of Songs, 5:6.8)
My soul melted when my beloved spoke.
I sought him, but I could not find him;
I called him, but he gave me no answer.
I charge you, O daughters of Jerusalem,
if ye find my beloved,
that ye tell him, that I am sick of love.

En la mar hay una torre,
en la torre hay una ventana.
En la ventana hay una hija
que a los marineros ama.
Dame la mano tu palomba,
para suvir al tu nido.
m'an dicho que durmes sola
vengo a durmir contigo.
Si la mar era de leche,
yo m' haria un peshkador,
peshkaria los mis dolores
con palavricas d'amor.
No t'a pares tu al moy
qu'en el moy no hay que ver
una barquita al moy aviya
travó la vela y se fue.

In the sea there stands a tower,
in the tower is a window,
in the window a girl
who call out to the sailors.
Give me your hand, my dove,
that I may climb up to your nest,
unhappy girl sleeping all alone,
I'm coming to sleep with you.
If the sea was made of milk,
I would become a fisherman
and fish for my sorrows
with words of love.
Don't look towards the harbour,
for there's nothing there to see,
there was a little boat moored there,
but now it's sailed away.

Muerto lo traen a su tierra, donde bivo sucedía;
Quedaron todas las damas sin consuelo ni alegría;
parescía al Duque su padre en toda cavallería;

I.- Antifona: Circumdederunt me
II.- Salmo 94
Intérpretes/Performers: Gabrieli Consort & Players (Paul McCreesh)
Circumdederunt me gemitus mortis,
dolores inferni, circumdederunt me.
Venite, exultemus Domino,
iubilemus Deo salutari nostro:
præocupemus faciem eius in confessione,
et in psalmis iubilemus ei.
Circumdederunt me gemitus mortis,
dolores inferni, circumdederunt me.
Quoniam Deus magnus Dominus,
dolores inferni, circumdederunt me.
Quoniam ipsius est mare,
et ipse fecit illud,
et aridam fundaverunt manus eius:
venite, adoremus,
et procidamus ante Deus:
Ploremus coram Domino, qui fecit nos:
quia ipse est Dominus Deus noster,
nos autem populus eius,
et oves pascuæ eius.
Circumdederunt me gemitus mortis,
dolores inferni, circumdederunt me.
Hodie si vocem eius auditeris,
nolite obdurare corda vestra,
sicut in exacerbatione
secundum diem tentationis in deserto:
ubi tentaverunt me patris vestri,
probaverunt et viderunt opera mea.
dolores inferni, circumdederunt me.
Quadraginta annis proximus fui generationi huic,
et dixit: semper hi errant corde;
ipsi vero non cognoverunt vias meas,
quibus iuravi in ira mea,
si introibunt in requiem meam.
Circumdederunt me gemitus mortis,
dolores inferni, circumdederunt me.
Requiem æternam dona eis Domine,
et lux perpetua luceat eis.
dolores inferni, circumdederunt me.
Circumdederunt me gemitus mortis,
dolores inferni, circumdederunt me.
The moanings of death have encircled me
the sorrows of hell have enclosed me.
Come let us praise the Lord with joy: let us joyfully sing to God our saviour.
Let us come before his presence with thanksgiving; and make a joyful noise to him with psalms.
The moanings of death have encircled me
the sorrows of hell have enclosed me.
For the Lord is a great God, and a great King above all gods. For the Lord will not cast off his people in his hand are the deep places of the earth: the strength of the hills in his also.
the sorrows of hell have enclosed me.
The sea is his, and he made it: and his hands formed the dry land. O come, let us worship and bow down: let us kneel before the Lord our maker. For he is our God; and we are the people of his pasture, and the sheep of his hand.
The moanings of death have encircled me
the sorrows of hell have enclosed me.
Today if ye will hear his voice, harden not your heart, as in the provocation, and as in the day of temptation in the wilderness: when your fathers tempted me, proved me, and saw my work.
the sorrows of hell have enclosed me.
Forty years long was I grieved with this generation, and said, it is a people that do err in their heart, and they have not known my ways: unto whom I sware in my wrath that they should not enter into my rest.
The moanings of death have encircled me
the sorrows of hell have enclosed me.
Eternal rest grant unto them, O Lord, and let perpetual light shine upon them.
the sorrows of hell have enclosed me.
The moanings of death have encircled me
the sorrows of hell have enclosed me.
Cancionero de Medinaceli (s. XVI)
¡Yntolerable rrayo, o luz hermosa!
y en fin, crióos en todo abundosa;
o rremediadme, o ved a qué nacistes.

Stabat Mater dolorosa
iuxta crucem lacrimosa,
dum pendebat filius.
Cuius animam gementem
contristatam et dolentem
pertransivit gladius.
O quam tristis et afflicta
fuit illa benedicta
Mater unigeniti
Quæ mœrebat et dolebat,
pia Mater, dum videbat
nati pœnas incliti.
Quis est homo qui non fleret,
Matrem Christi si videret
in tanto supplicio?
Quis non posset contristari,
Christi Matrem contemplari
dolentem cum filio?
Pro peccatis suæ gentis
vidit Iesum in tormentis,
et flagellis subditum.
Vidit suum dulcem Natum
moriendo desolatum,
dum emisit spiritum.
Eia, Mater, fons amoris,
me sentire vim doloris
fac, ut tecum lugeam.
Fac, ut ardeat cor meum
in amando Christum Deum,
ut sibi complaceam.
Sancta Mater, istud agas,
crucifixi fige plagas
cordi meo valide.
Tui Nati vulnerati,
tam dignati pro me pati,
pœnas mecum divide.
Fac me tecum pie flere,
crucifixo condolere,
donec ego vixero.
Iuxta Crucem tecum stare,
et me tibi sociare
in planctu desidero.
Virgo virginum præclara,
mihi iam non sis amara,
fac me tecum plangere.
Fac ut portem Christi mortem,
passionis fac consortem,
et plagas recolere.
Fac me plagis vulnerari,
fac me Cruce inebriari,
et cruore Filii.
Flammis ne urar succensus,
per te, Virgo, sim defensus
in die iudicii.
Christe, cum sit hinc exire,
da per Matrem me venire
ad palmam victoriæ.
Quando corpus morietur,
fac, ut animæ donetur
paradisi gloria.
Amen.
At the Cross her station keeping, stood the mournful Mother weeping, close to her Son to the last.
Throught her heart, His sorrow sharing, all His bitter anguish bearing, now at length the sword has passed.
O how sad and sore distressed was that Mother, highly blest, of the sole-begotten One.
Christ above in torment hangs, she beneath beholds the pangs of her dying glorious Son.
Is there one who would not weep, whelmed in miseries so deep, Christ's dear Mother to behold?
Can the human heart refrain from partaking in her pain, in that Mother's pain untold?
For the sins of His own nation, She saw Jesus wracked with torment, all with scourges rent.
She beheld her tender Child, saw Him hang in desolation, till his spirit forth He sent.
O thou Mother! fount of love! touch my spirit from above, make my heart with thine accord.
Make me feel as thou hast felt, make my soul to glow and melt with the love of Christ my Lord.
Holy Mother! pierce me through, in my heart each wound renew of my Savior crucified.
Let me share with thee His pain, who for all my sins was slain, who for me in torments died.
Let me mingle tears with thee, mourning Him who mourned for me, all the days that I may live.
By the Cross with thee to stay, there with thee to weep and pray, is all I ask of thee to give.
Virgin of all virgins blest!, listen to my fond request, let me share thy grief divine.
Let me, to my latest breath, in my body bear the death of that dying Son of thine.
Wounded with His every wound, steep my soul till it hath swooned, in His very Blood away.
Be to me, O Virgin, nigh, lest in flames I burn and die, in His awful Judgment Day.
Christ, when Thou shalt call me hence, be Thy Mother my defense, be Thy Cross my victory.
While my body here decays, may my soul Thy goodness praise, safe in Paradise with Thee.

praise Him with the psaltery and harp.
Praise Him with the timbrel and dance:
praise Him with stringed instruments and organ.
Praise Him upon the resounding cymbals:
praise Him upon the high-sounding cymbals.
Let everything that hath breath praise the Lord.

Pouco devemos preçar
o demo, se Deus m' anpar,
pois nos a Virgen guardar,
que nos caudela;
pois no-la Virgen guardar.
Muito faremos mal sen
se o temermos de ren,
pois no-la Virgen manten,
que nos caudela;
pois no-la Virgen manten.
Ca seu poder pouco val,
pois nos guarda de seu mal
a Virgen espirital,
que nos caudela;
a Virgen espirital.
Seu saber pouco nos nuz,
pois é nossa lum' e luz
a que viu seu Fill' en cruz,
que nos caudela;
a que viu seu Fill' en cruz.
Nono devemos creer
nen por ele mal fazer,
pois nos a Virgen valer,
que nos caudela;
pois nos a Virgen valer.
Seu engano nada é,
pois por nos ante Deus sé
a en que ficou a fe,
que nos caudela;
[This is a song of praise.]
We should pay little heed to the devil, as God is my aid, because the Virgin who rules us will protect us.
We shall commit great folly if we fear him, for the Virgin who rules us, keeps us.
His power is worth little, for the Spiritual Virgin who rules us protects us from his harm.
His knowledge matters little to us, for She who rules us and who saw Her Son on the cross is ous flame and light.
We should not believe him nor do ill because of him, for the Virgin who rules us comes to our aid.
His deceit is nothing, for She who holds the faith and rules us is our Advocate with God.

Libera me, Domine, de morte æterna, in die illa tremenda:
Quando cæli movendi sunt et terra:
Dum veneris iudicare saeculum per ignem.
R/. Quando cæli movendi sunt et terra.
V/. Dies illa, dies iræ, calamitatis et miseriæ, dies magna et amara valde.
R/. Dum veneris iudicare sæculum per ignem.
V/. Requiem æternam dona eis, Domine, et lux perpetua luceat eis.
Kyrie eleison, Christe eleison. Kyrie eleison.
Deliver me, O Lord, from death eternal on that fearful day,
when the heavens and the earth shall be moved,
when thou shalt come to judge the world by fire.
I am made tremble, and I fear, till the judgment be upon us, and the coming wrath,
when the heavens and the earth shall be moved.
That day, day of wrath, calamity and misery,
day of great and exceeding bitterness,
when thou shalt come to judge the world by fire.
Rest eternal grant unto them, O Lord:
and let light perpetual shine upon them.
Lord, have mercy,
Christ, have mercy,
Lord, have mercy.

Ni dexa moça ni casada,

De vidas agenas enquisidor,

Aunque le vedes flaquillo,

porque fué, señores, su padrino.
Para mantillas i pañales

Hail, queen of heaven.
Hail, mistress of the angels.

Rejoice, glorious one, fair above all others.
Farewell, most gracious one,

[Tenor: et gaudebit]
Homo, quo vigeas vide,
Dei fidei adhæreas,
in spe gaudeas et in fide
intus ardeas, foris luceas,
turturis retorqueas os ad ascellas.
Docens ita verbo, vita, oris vomere,
de cordibus fidelium.
Evellas lolium, lilium insere rosæ,
ut alium per hoc corripere speciose valeas;
virtuti saluti omnium studeas,
noxias delicias detesteris,
opera considera quæ si non feceris damnaberis,
hac in via milita gratiæ et præmia cogita patriæ,
et sic tuum cor in perpetuum gaudebit.
(et gaudebit) cor vestrum. Alleluia.
¡Aleluya!
puedas atraer a otro de buena manera;
afánate en la virtud,
en la salvación de todos,
detesta las delicias perjudiciales,
considera las obras por las que,
si no llegas a hacerlas
serás condenado,
lucha en este camino de la gracia
y piensa en las recompensas
de la patria y, así, tu corazón
gozará para siempre.
Y se regocijará vuestro corazón. ¡Aleluya!
Alleluia!
Do not leave us orphans:
I go and come to you
(and your heart will rejoice.)
Man, be watchful so to have strength.
Keep close to your faith in God,
rejoice in the hope and burn inwardly
in faith, shining through strength,
wring the neck of the turtledove
turn it to its wings.
Instruct other with your speech, your life,
with the passion of your words
root out the discord
from the hearts of the faithful.
Graft the lily to the rose,
so that you may appeal to
others in a good way;
labour in the virtue and the salvation
of all men, loathe harmful pleasures,
consider his works for what they are,
if you fail to do so, you will be damned,
fight on this journey towards grace
and think on the rewards
of the fatherland and in way your heart
will rejoice for ever.
And your heart will rejoice. Alleluia!

Salve, santa madre de Cristo,
salve, Virgen libre de mancha,
salve, esplendor de las vírgenes.
Salve, Virgen singular;
como salvada, pares al Salvador
y como esclava pares al Señor.
Virgen, concebiste a Dios,
principio y fin.
Huerto cerrado, fuente sellada,
tierra de la que el fruto nacido
es el alimento de los fieles.
Vástago de Jesé, que muestra la flor
hacia cuyo perfume acude
la asamblea de los santos.
¡Oh! María, estrella del mar,
esperanza y puerto saludable
en el naufragio del mundo.
Tú, que engendras sin conocer varón,
que has sido hecha madre salvadora,
encomiéndanos a tu Hijo. Amén.
Hail, holy mother of Christ,
Hail, Virgin free from stain,
Hail, glory of virgins.
Hail, matchless Virgin;
as one saved, you brought forth our Saviour
and as hand-maiden you brought forth our Lord.
Virgin you conceived God,
you gave him birth you suckled and nourished him,
offering him with devout care
the food of the bread, the water from the well,
as sustenance for life, the cradle of the mountain
in the ox's stable.
Against nature's laws
you, so small, from a slight womb,
lightened the infinite,
the man to God, the star to the sun,
the daughter to the Father, the virgin to the offspring,
the maiden to the old man.
Protecting with your womb the lamb
and the lion, the small and large,
the Father and Son,
that which is mortal and eternal,
for he himself is the two things,
the beginning and the end.
Enclosed garden, sealed fount,
ground from which was born the fruit
your are the food of the faithful.
Rod of Jesse, who proffered the flower
toward whose perfume are drawn
the assembly of the Saints.
Oh Mary, star of the sea,
hope and safe haven
in the shipwreck of the world.
You, who gave birth without knowing man,
who has been made saviour mother
commend us to your Son.
Amen.

When Jesus was born in Bethlehem in Judea in the days of King Herod, behold, Magi came from the east to Jerusalem and said:
Where is the newborn King of the Jews?
We have seen his star in the east and have come to worship him.
When King Herod heard this, he was greatly troubled and all Jerusalem with him, and he called together the chief priests and scribes of the people and inquired of them where the Christ was to be born.
And they said to him: In Bethlehem of Judea!
For so it is written in the Prophet:
And you, Bethlehem, in the land of Judea, you are not at all the smallest among the princes of Judah; for from you there shall come to me the prince to rule over my people Israel.
Then Herod called the Magi to him in private and ascertained diligently from them when the star was to appear and pointed them toward Bethlehem and said:
Go and diligently ascertain about the child, and when you have found him, then report to me again, so that I too may come and worship him.
When they had heard the king, they departed from there.
And, behold, the star that they had seen in the east went ahead of them until it came and stood over the place where the little child was.
When they saw the star, they rejoiced greatly and went into the house and found the child with Mary, his mother, and fell down and worshiped him and opened up their treasure chests and presented him gold, frankincense, and myrrh; but then in a dream God commanded them that they should not return to Herod, and so they returned to their country by another route.
Esta montanya d'enfrente,
s'aciende y va quemando,
allí pedrí al mi amor,
m'asento y vo llorando.
Arvolico de menekhse,
yo lo ensembrí en mi huerta,
yo lo crecí y lo engrandecí,
otros s'están gozando.
Secretos quero descuvrir,
secretos de mi vida,
el cielo quero por papel,
la mar quero por tinta.
Los árvoles por péndola,
para 'scrivir mis males,
no hay quen sepa mi dolor,
ni ajenos ni parientes.
This mountain in front
is on fire and burning.
There I sought my love:
I sit down and sweep.
Flowering tree,
that I keep in my garden,
that I grew and nurtured,
others now enjoy it.
I would discover secrets,
secrets of my life.
I would have the sky for paper,
the sea I would have for ink.
The trees for pen
to write of my ills.
No-one knows of my sorrow,
neither strangers nor kin.

Nobre don e mui preçado foi Santa Maria dar...

Nobre don e mui preçado foi Santa Maria dar...
This song number VII is how Holy Mary took Her Son to the temple and offered Him to Saint Simeon. This feast day is in the month of February.
"Holy Mary gave a noble and most precious gift to God when She presented Her Son to Him in the temple."
Whoever saw such a precious thing nor a gift so rich as Holy Mary gave to Saint Simeon in the temple when She gave him Jesus Christ, Her Son, in offering, Whom he took joyfully in his arms over the altar.
This the Holy Virgin did at the proper time when forty days had passed since She bore Her Son and therefore, according to the law, She offered Him in the temple with two tame turtle doves and a pair of pigeons.
Simeon, that saintly man to whom She offered the Child, always asked God to let him see before he died His Son Whom He would send to save the world.
As soon as he saw the Child, he took Him in his arms and, kissing His feet, wept with joy, saying: "Since I see this, oh God, Who have let me live until now, well may You take me after his day in peace.
Since my eyes see You, Who are Savior of all of us who await You and guardian of Israel, God and man, Lord of the world, I beg you not to let me linger any longer in this world."

Santa María Madre,
yn ilhuicac Cihuapille,
tinantzin Dios
yn titotenpantlatocatzin,
ma hueltehuatzin topan ximotlahtolti
yn titlaconhuanine.
Santa María Madre
Reina Celestial,
Madre de Dios,
abogada nuestra,
ruega por nosotros pecadores.
Holy Mary, Mother
Queen of Heaven,
Mother of God,
Thou art our mediator,
intercede for us who are sinners.
This is the first song of praise to Holy Mary, enumerating the seven joys She had from Her Son.
From this day forth I will sing for the Honored Lady in whom God chose to take on blessed and sacred flesh in order to give us great reward in His Kingdom and to bequeath to His followers eternal life, so that we might not suffer death again.
Therefore, I wish to begin with how She was hailed by Gabriel when he went to summon Her: "Oh, Blessed Virgin, Beloved of God, you now bear within you Him Who will save the world, and your kinswoman Elizabeth, who doubted, is thereby proven wrong."
Then I wish to relate to you how She arrived in Bethlehem. Being weary, She took shelter at the gates of the city and soon thereafter gave birth to Jesus Christ. Like a poor and hapless woman, She laid Him in the manger where they place the barley, to rest among the beasts of the field.
Also I must not forget how angels sang a hymn of praise and "peace on earth" nor how the star showed the way to the three kings from afar, by which they came with haste to offer their rare and precious gifts.
Another event I wish to relate was that told Her by the Magdalene, of how she saw the stone which hab been rolled away from the sepulchre and guarded by the angel, who spoke to her and said: "Unhappy woman, be comforted, for Jesus, Whom you come to seek, arose this morning."
Also I wish to tell the great and wondrous joy She had when She saw the luminous cloud lift up Her Son. And when He had ascended, angels appeared walking among the crowd of bewildered people, saying: "Thus He will come to judge, this is a proven thing."
Nor do I wish to omit how the abundant grace God chose to bestow on Her was sent. The disciples God had gathered together were inspired and instructed by Him and filled with the Holy Spirit, so that they could go forth to preach at once.
And, in God's name, I must not fail to mention how She was crowned. When She had passed from this world, He took Her to be united with Him in Heaven to sit by His side and be called Queen, Daughter, Mother, and Handmaiden. Hence She must help us, for She is our Advocate.
