I love the work of JW Waterhouse, and I think many Pre-Raphaelite paintings are amazing and dreamy and beautiful. It’s also quite interesting to look at the how Victorians shaped their medieval historybounding fantasies. The dress in the painting I chose has Ophelia wearing a a red underdress and a blue overdress, with a border of golden lions at the hem, big open sleeves and gold embroidery at the neckline. This is part one, in which I make the underdress of Ophelia by Waterhouse (the 1910 version) and work up to that gorgeous blue overdress that I’ll be making later. Fellow CosTubers Kirilee Cosplay and Lady Rebecca Fashions came up with the #HistoricalHalloween2020, and I was very inspired by many of the historical and vintage fancy dress designs. I chose 2 designs from Dennison’s Bogie Book from the 1920s (you may recognise these from Rachel Maksy’s video from last year) and the end result is super cute and hilarious! Fun and spooky in orange and black, some sewing asmr thrown in and with maybe, just maybe, a few (many) black cat cameos…

[CC]Juul Thijssen2020-08-03 | +++ please note: technical difficulties end around 09:00***
Welcome to our panel discussion on Historybounding! In this live streamed panel we will be discussing our view on this popular phenomenon of bringing elements of historical dress into daily wear. We are starting off by talking about what Historybounding means to us and sharing some tips and looks, and later on will try to answer any questions that people have in the chat.
We are simultaneously hosting an instagram ‘Historybound Best Meetup’ throughout the CoCoVid weekend. Please tag your historybound look with #historyboundbest to participate, and in turn use the hashtag to find fellow historybounders!

Our panel members:
Shari You may know Shari from the Dutch and international costume/historical fashion scene, and she came up with the idea for this panel after writing a blog article about Historybounding. She has a beautiful webshop - La Rose Passementarie - for haberdashery, fabrics, American Duchess footwear and more. You can find it at http://www.la-rose-passementarie.com. Her YouTube channel - La Rose Aventures - will become active very soon, with videos concerning her atelier La Rose Couture, her historically costumed events La Rose Soiree and her webshop La Rose Passementarie.
Extra info: The Dutch Facebook group that she is referring to, can be found under 'Historische Kleding, Hoeden en Accessoires maken'. This is also where you can find information on online sewing meetups, sew alongs and future historybounding meetups. The blog she wrote can be found at the Modemuze website: https://www.modemuze.nl/ The origins of 'Disneybounding' can, as Shari mentions, be traced back to Leslie Kay: disneybound.co
Desiree Desiree is a pattern and garment engineer with a vivid passion for historical clothing and combining elements of historical dress in everyday wear. She has hosted the instagram hashtag challenge #homeboundhistorybound, encouraging people to enjoy Historybounding even during self-isolation. She also has a budding YouTube channel - Desiree Primrose - focussing on (historical) fashion and sewing which you can find here: youtube.com/channel/UCVj9qSlSfuct3OV-QgpYUEQ You can also find her on instagram @designed_by_desiree. Catch her CoCoVid video: Pattern Drafting for Beginners an Edwardian Corset Cover from Thursday July 30th, 11:00am PDT/2:00pm EDT/7:00pm BST.
Extra info: The lecture Desiree referred to was by Kendra van Cleave, and is sadly not publicly available (anymore)
Juul A lover of all kinds of historical and vintage fashions and amateur sewist and YouTube content creator, she is very proud to host this panel with her friends and fellow historybounders on her channel. Subscribing to her channel is much appreciated, and if you wish to support her further, you can get her a ‘coffee’ at: ko-fi.com/juulthijssen

👂 This panel does not have live captioning, sadly. It is a shame, but we weren't able to figure out how to make it work for us in this specific situation in time. After the live stream ended, automatic captions have been generated, which I have now (painstakingly, as I cannot myself hear very well what has been said) corrected to the best of my ability.

#CosTube #CoCoVidCoCoVid: Interactive RibbongameJuul Thijssen2020-07-27 | This content is published as part of CoCoVid, an initiative of members of the CosTube Community.
Ribbon collecting is a time-honored bonding tradition at Costume College: attendees are able to decorate their name badges with unique ribbons, collected by attending certain events or classes. CoCoVid is joining in on this spirited adventure with our very own virtual badge collection game!
How do I get started? You’ll need to either download the FREE Badgewallet app via Android or Apple, or you can visit Badgecraft Online through any desktop browser to set up your virtual badge wallet.
How do I claim my badges? Each participating video, workshop, lecture, live stream or event during CoCoVid weekend will include a text code and/or a QR code to claim the corresponding badge, and all badges have different conditions for collection: You may need to watch a video until the end to collect the QR Code/Claim Code, or you may need to participate in one of the many activities happening on Instagram or in the Discord Server. Each activity or video will contain instructions on how their corresponding badge can be collected.
Badgecraft Desktop only supports text codes, while either the text or QR code may be scanned with a smartphone in the app. The badge will automatically appear in your wallet.
What’s the point of this? Kind of nothing. It’s not a competition, and there aren’t any prizes. But it’s Costume College tradition, and an excellent way to bond with fellow attendees! Share your badge collection with friends using the hashtag #cocovidbadges on Instagram, or visit the CoCoVid Discord server where there is a special Badge Game channel to show off and chat about your collection.
Try to collect as many as you can, and have fun!
Special thanks to Kacy Burchfield, badgefairy extraordinaire!

I am using pattern instructions from 1912 by Marie Thierbach, and adding my own touch with decorations and embroidery in the spirit of 'arts and crafts'. I’m excited to work on this project together with my friend Fanny, who came up with the idea in the first place. I highly encourage you to check out her progress pictures on instagram! It is also an absolute joy reading and learning about the Dress Reform movement and the Artistic and Aesthetic dress, and seeing other people’s concepts and projects with the #ReformDressChallenge hashtag.

My friend Fanny and I were very inspired by the early 1900s reform- and artistic dress movements, and both wanted to make a garment in this style. We found out that there is a contemporary pattern that makes it very easy to do so, and thought it would be the perfect historical sewing/ history bounding/ quarantine loungewear project for a sewing challenge. Hence, #ReformDressChallenge was born!
For my own reform dress, I am first designing my concept and dyeing my fabric, which can be seen in this 'part one' video. The link to part two: youtu.be/eKcYoMK630s
To join the challenge, make your own reform or artistic dress and share your progress and results using the hashtag #ReformDressChallenge. Tagging Fanny @fannyfahdenfroh and or me @juulvictoria is also highly appreciated! We are on Instagram and YouTube, but feel free to spread the word on any platform. In this video, I am making a contemporary version of a Dutch tradition called 'nationale feestrok' or 'bevrijdingsrok'. These were originally made to celebrate May 5th, the Dutch holiday that commemorates end of the second world war 75 years ago. When a Dutch museum organised a competition to make a modern version of this skirt with a nod to the current pandemic, I decided to participate. Anticipating liberation from our lockdown, this is my take on the liberation skirt.
