TMNF Cuts NOT Done by WRs 2018 - Quick
updated
I thought this was probably gonna be pretty maxed out, but then another idea struck me. I didn't refine this TAS very much, so I'm sure something crazy like a 8.5x ish time is possible with an ideal ramm and landing on the grass earlier.
Previous TASes/WR:
14.59 (RTA WR by Hefest)
14.08 (WR-route by donadigo)
13.90 (WR-route + finbug by donadigo)
10.95 (First noseboost by JaV)
10.68 (Improved noseboost by Louis)
9.23 (New noseboost route)
I think my clock is broken, ignore that.
This is a bit of a parody to my now 9 year old video "playing E02 with keyboard" (thx heffy for the idea).
youtube.com/watch?v=JaV1lXIrmRM
I merged the images of keyboard actions in Python in-sync with the real inputs of the replay, so, other the fact it's obviously supposed to be with pad rather than keyboard, the actions you see are what the run would really look like (as you can tell, I'm quite proud of the attention to realism). Though, the video is at 60 fps and the inputs can be 100 per second per key, so in some instances there were up to 6 different inputs in a single frame, which couldn't be truly shown.

In my last noseboost TAS on D14, I set a new TAS record by beating the RTA WR by 60.3%, the first nadeo TAS to ever go over 60% savings.
After that, I decided to search for the nadeo map (in all campaigns) with the most potential. It's totally possible there is another, but I think E02 is it (which also happens to be my favourite map, how poetic!). As daunting as it was to TAS all 26 sectors on this map, I set to work.
Following my experience of D14, my goal was to get a sub-2 second average sector time. I knew that a sub-1 minute time was totally within reach on E02, but I wanted to push for sub-50 seconds. My original plan was to do just one big "circle" around the map, collecting all the CPs "in order", making sure to leave none behind. However, noseboosts don't always go the direction you want them too, and in the end, due to some awkward height differences between adjacent CPs, I had to do kinda one and a half loops. Still, I'm very pleased with the final time.
Stats:
Time: 0:44.43
Previous TAS: 1:31.52 by Kimura, Niro and Shweetz (-0:47.09, or 51.5% saved)
RTA WR: 3:26.58 by Labaffue (-2:42.15, or 78.49% saved)
No-noseboost TAS: 3:07.96 by Dacuber
Avg. sector: 1.33 seconds (excl. first sector)
Slowest sector: 2.01 seconds (which I coincidentally equalled three times in the run)
Fastest sector: 0.04 seconds (2nd fastest 0.53, which I also (almost) equalled three times)
Noseboost start: 9.30 seconds
CP/fin bugs: 11
Time wasted: 3 weeks
Looking forward, I know with absolute certainty that a sub-40 second run is possible on this map. I think a time of about 37-38 seconds would be the absolute limit here, but it would certainly be a marvel to behold. You can gain two or more seconds from the start sector alone, and although my route was much more efficient than the previous TAS's route, I'm sure there are much more efficient ways than what I did.
Thanks for 8k subs,
JaV
Molosii's TAS on D14 was really good (especially considering how quickly he made it), but I immediately saw all the areas of improvement. I knew that at least 5 seconds per lap could be saved. Nevertheless, I set out to do this TAS with little expectations.
I made the mistake in the first lap of thinking that getting CP3 first might be a good idea. By the end of the first lap I realised this was in fact a horrible idea and that Molosiis CP order was much better, so I did that for the rest.
After what I now consider to be a very sloppy first lap, I decided to push it a bit more on the 2nd lap. I was quite happy with the sub 12 second lap, even though I knew precious milliseconds could be saved at every corner.
However, when I realised at the end of the 2nd lap that this had the potential to hit the 60% barrier, I decided to push the 3rd lap to the absolute limit. In the end, I spent about three times longer on the last lap than the first two laps combined (I wont go into detail about the horrors of the final checkpoint).
Lap times:
38.88 (I estimate this is equivalent to about a ~13-14s lap pace, if you compare the sectors with the other laps, so yeh, pretty slow)
11.96
10.85
(Molosii's lap times were 52.14, 18.21 and 20.50 for comparison)
I'm pretty happy about the 10.85 lap (except the last checkpoint where I should have saved another ~-0.30 if this game wasn't such a big c... ok I said I wouldn't get into that).
The only sector where I lost a bit of time (0.09s) relative to my lap 2 was the CP4-2 bit (the two high CPs), but the lap 2 sector there was really lucky and had a longer post-CP nose set up, so I think I did the best I could.
Is a sub-10 second lap possible?? Absolutely! I would love to see it one day. This would mainly come from saving time in the sector after the start block (you could do the cut through the wall more to the right and much faster), and the last CP... as I said before... can be improved significantly... f&43tQ$, ok, ok, I'm calm.... I'm calm...
With an absolutely PERFECT tas, you would possibly be looking at a time of around 55 seconds (unless a faster way to set up the noseboost is found). I really considered doing the whole thing over from scratch, and doing it at the lap 3 quality. I think I could quite easily break the 1 minute barrier, but it just takes so much time. Maybe one day.
Final time:
1:01.69 (-1:33.80 RTA WR (60.33%), -29.16 previous TAS)

I was pretty stoked to get this after only a few hours of hunting. Back when we were trying to get the cut for the first time, I got a serious .4x fail, so I already knew that Link's WR was improvable. After getting the A04 WR recently, I got a bit hungry for more, so decided to give this a shot again. To be honest though, I'm not expecting this one to hang around for very long, as .4x should be well within human limits. I bruteforced the end of this run and it very quickly goes down to a .41 (which is actually -0.01 on the TAS WR for this route, so it's the new TAS WR for this route).

A04: Not gonna happen. Think it would be a few hundreths slower anyway.
A06: Doesn't seem like there's enough speed, but maybe some variation of this is possible somehow, who knows.
A14: Old alt. cut for A14, just wanted to do it for completeness sake.
B03: Cool to see this would have beaten the old no-cut WR, if we hadn't found the faster version to the left first.
B04: I believe.
B12: Two slightly slower routes on B12. Should be possible to make these faster somehow.
B13: Random idea I had. Even if you had some miracle speed to get through the loop, I'm sure the route would be slower anyway.
C06: Really thought the first bounce would work. Wasn't so sure about the 2nd route, but if you can get it to work, it should be faster.
D14: Two cut ideas don't seem to be worth it, even if they sound good on paper. The noseboost set up could potentially work though.
E01: Old route idea I had. Incredibly difficult to make it work, even for TAS. Would be 2-3 seconds slower anyway, but looks cool.
Now... what should I try next...
JaV
I was even more surprised later on when bruteforce started going apeshit and breezed pass the 15 second mark after being hard-stuck around ~.20. Clearly there was something wrong with TMI... but no, it was... this. Quite happy with this because I was quite sure before that the 15 second mark would be unattainable. I think this is also the first time this style fin-bug has been used in stadium nadeo (I could be wrong). I guess it should also be possible on A05, and maybe some others.

It will still be a MASSIVE challenge to beat the WR with this cut, but it should be able to save a good -0.15 on the normal route (I imagine a time of low/mid .3x is possible with the current WR-route). I wouldnt be surprised if someone manages to get it sometime this year.

Also valid on ESWC C-5.
Something I dreamed about doing on this map for many years. Nice to see that a full speed end is possible here.

My last WR was on D10, back in June-ish 2019. That WR lasted about 2 days, iirc. Hopefully this one lasts a little longer xD. However, the proudest thing for me in trackmania is not to get a WR, but to help someone else push the boundaries even further and take the WR from me. For this, I made this video to give whatever help I can. When hunting A04, don't be tempted to fall into a habit of taking a safer line on the ramp, risk it all, and eventually it will pay off.
Thanks for all your support,
JaV
Well Winterly wanted a dramatic video. I hope this satisfies his wish.
Is it RTA-viable? Very hard to say. I think it's unlikely, but the ramm probably isnt craaaazy hard. The tricky bit is landing with speed (probably the nosebug option).

Not too much to say about this TAS. I'm pretty proud of how it turned out overall. The finding of the centre-road ramm for the initial noseboost set up was quite satisfying. I couldn't quite get a smooth transition back to the platform after CP2, so I lost a little bit of speed there, but I managed to re-noseboost back up to 1000 speed pretty quickly. The ending was the biggest challenge by far. I tried a whole selection of variations for the finish. My first finish was 22.47, then 22.22, then 21.49, and finally I got this 20.97. Not quite the dream of beating the 20 second barrier, but definitely good enough for now.
There are a couple of ideas for improving this still. Instead of collecting the CPs in the order 1-2-3-fin, it would be better to go 1-3-2-fin, as you'd travel a much shorter distance overall. There is even potential to do a very early ramm-2-uber at the beginning and do 3-1-2-fin, but I'm not sure yet if that'd be possible.

I am running a competition for this. All you have to do is get 4.38 on this map
(you can easily recreate this map by yourself, just make sure it goes in the negative X direction):
sendspace.com/file/ke6xm7
The first person to do it will get 2000cc.
You can use whatever method you want, bruteforcing, precision scripts, try and copy how it looks from this video, whatever. Just no cheating obviously.
There are no tricks, there is no catch. All you have to do is get 4.38.
The run I got was 4.383, so it should be very easy. Good luck.
The competition will end in 7 days, and then I will release the inputs so you can use it in your TASes if you want. Luckily enough, the A04 start goes in the negative X direction, so it should be possible to save another -0.01 there. Something to do in the future...
EDIT (4/2): the competition has been won! Lambda managed (somehow) to replicate this bug and also got a time of 4.383. Does this mean its technically RTA-viable??

I used the first ~1s from Joh's TAS. Joh also had some suggestions for improvement. Among them was to do a bugslide landing on the start cut, instead of his wall hit bounce. It might actually be possible to land into a bugslide, but it's beyond crazy difficult. In the end, I chanced upon this compromise, with a direct jump landing. I think may be just as good as a bugslide landing, if not better. This alone saved about -0.60 on Joh's TAS, so I knew that it was going to be faster overall. Joh also suggested the end nosebug. I did manage to get one, but it only saved less than 0.10. I think this could be improved a lot, but it's really difficult to get the right set up. Also, I got a .69 TAS, so I kinda didn't wanna ruin it.

Could I improve the alt. route TAS to beat this new Joh-route TAS? I think so, yes. I think the nose-into-start-block-hit part could be improved quite a bit still. But I'm not going to try for now. I might try the WR-route TAS soon though.

I started this TAS with zero expectations. I knew roughly the route that I wanted to do (this was found by my GA algorithm years ago, and I'm pretty sure Nino thought about this route before that), but I didn't know exactly how to get from CP to CP. I certainly never thought that I'd be able to beat the TAS WR with it.
On my first TAS attempt, I got a 1:27.6x, which was much better than I expected, and I knew there was room for improvement. So I went back and found a better way to do the nose turn (after passing the ring where you typically respawn), which gave me a much cleaner landing, saving about 0.50s.
Then, through a combination of shear luck and bruteforce magic, I found the absolutely insane path through the next two CPs (on the first try, I instead did a much slower and "easier" bounce off the top of the arrow board). It's absolutely unbelievable that this works. Every centimetre requires perfection if you want to make the long jump through the last ring CP. It literally could not even have one kmh speed less. But this saved me an additional ~1.50s compared to my first attempt.
Then, amusingly, I was able to add insult to injury by attempting the bugslide finish that people have been theorising for the last 14 years. I actually found two ways to do it. One is grazing the wall before you land, putting you in a sharper nose down. The second is clipping the edge of the block when you land, as you see in the video. This last trick saves about 0.40s compared to driving the finish in the traditional fashion.

I decided to take a second look at this route. First, I managed to improve the bounce on the long jump so that the car lands with far more speed. Then, using this speed, I was able to find (by chance) a quicker way to get to the finish. This end is actually quite improvable. I had some runs that went just past the right-side fin-bug around 38.7x. However, the right-side fin-bug is incredibly difficult to hit (it has a significantly smaller target area than the left-side), and I wasn't able to make it work. Perhaps someone can have a go at this in the future.
Finally, just to check, I decided to do the end the way that DJ did it, and found that this could also beat the previous TAS wr, with the help of a small nose bug.

Yeh, I'm pretty sure that it can still be quite a lot faster, perhaps 2-3 seconds, with an absolutely perfect uber. Sadly, the final uber I got was way too fast/high, so I had to release for well over a second in order to slow down enough to drop into the finish, but overall I'm pretty satisfied with the final result here, and I think I've spent enough time on it already. It took a good few days, on and off. Even after getting the correct set up, it took a long time to convince the uber to go in the right direction. The inputs will be in the TAS spreadsheet, so please feel free to give it a try. I'd love to see a 17.xx one day.

The time saved, percentage-wise is juuuuuuust less than the A08 TAS, but that's noseboost so I don't really think that counts :P

I present to you, the third route on B10-Speed. What a map. Though I guess this route (without the uber) isn't really a cut, since it's slower than the Trinity WR-route TAS, but I'll take it.
Sometimes for these re-route TASes I'll do a "quick" TAS just to get a gauge for how close it is to the WR (how much effort I need to put in). On this one I got a ~35.3x, putting me almost one second behind the WR. I thought it'd be basically impossible to beat the RTA WR to the finish line, but I squeezed every corner to the limit and, to my astonishment, juuuuust managed to beat it.
While trying some 180 turn strategies for the last bit, I accidentally got this uber set up, and, not thinking much of it, decided to give it a crack. My first fast uber got really close to the sculpture, which I just noticed was there for the first time ever. So, struck by inspiration, I decided to play around with the idea of hitting the sculpture, and ended up with this beautiful skateboarding finish. Still slower than Alex's TAS though, sadge...

The first bounce trick is actually quite easy and I managed to do it by manual driving several times. The second bounce is also *reasonably* consistent. The issue is doing it in such a way that only loses less than 3 seconds to this TAS, which is probably outside of human limits. This is especially true for the bounce up the dirt hill near the end. Perhaps someone will find a more consistent way to do this, which could possibly lead to a WR being done with this route (would be much easier to just do the uber though...)

I tried a few different strategies for the first bounce. I tried re-directing Alex's uber, and ubering on the other side, and doing a nose at the start. But I didn't manage to find any decent with these strategies. Unfortunately, just fell short of beating Alex's TAS :P but I'm still satisfied with this large improvement of the RTA WR.

Was fun to revisit this old video. Can't believe I actually found some of the old clips I used. Who knew that an old meme idea could actually work out (again). Original video for those of you who are confused by the intro of this video:

I spent a good part of my afternoon trying to get this bounce working with the faster start. I'm (almost) certain that it could work out with a bit of luck. You could definitely do some sort of intermediate start, and save like only 1 second, but I would never be satisfied with this. So I'm leaving the TAS like this for now, and someone else can succeed where I failed.
Could you do this cut RTA? With this slower (but more speed) start, I think it would still be insanely difficult, probably beyond human reach. But people have surprised me before.

Previous TAS WR: 5.76 by Don Johnson and donadigo
Current RTA WR: 5.79 by Rollin
I bet you're surprised to see this one here. The limit just keeps getting closer and closer. I have a lot to talk about for this TAS, but if you're just here for the ride, I know the question you all want answered. The answer is: yes, I'm 99% sure that 5.74 is possible.
Here is the full story for the 2 people that are interested:
A lot of you probably aren't aware yet, but the player Shweetz has recently created an add-on to donadigos TM interface that is capable of calculating the time of a run to more decimal places than the default 0.01. In fact, it can calculate the time of a run to some fractions of a millionth of a second, which is incredible. Not only that, but he also built a tool which can integrate this new feature with the bruteforcing tool.
This is a truly ground-breaking step for optimisation in trackmania TASing. The main problem with the standard bruteforcing tool is that -0.01 can actually be a very significant step, where you could need to get several, very precise steering changes to all line up perfectly in order to make the leap to the next hundredth of a second improvement. Even if -0.05 is possible, the tool may struggle to get to the next -0.01, even though that change could make it easily sweep through the next -0.03, for example. This new feature by Shweetz totally bypasses this problem. Instead of having to jump over mountains, you can steadily climb them, step by step. You'll notice that one side effect of this is that the run (compared to Don's) looks far more optimised. Nothing will stop it from getting as close to the wall as possible, just to squeeze out an extra millionth of a second. It was even able to find the left turn at the end, which saves about ~0.0015, and was totally necessary to achieve the 5.75. The other side effect is that it can be looooong and painful...
I was playing around on A04 a week ago, and alongside playing, I was using dona's tool to bruteforce a few of my ramp-bug fails. I was surprised to see that two of them actually bruteforced down to .76s. When I found out about Shweetz's new tool I was eager to give it a try on A04. First I checked Don's TAS, which is a 3.7699. My two run's were something like 5.7670 and 5.7685. The 5.7670 was the lowest time, and also looked like it had the most potential, as it jumped the most to the right, so I tried this one first.
Shweetz's tool quickly brought it down to a ~5.7640. After that, I had to keep making small adjustments, and I was squeezing -0.0002 each time. Incredibly, it just kept squeezing. But after getting down to ~5.7620, progress slowed, and each step was more like -0.00002. After *many* painful hours, the solution seemed to asymptote out at an unbelievably painstaking 5.76029. All I needed was a literal three ten thousandths of a second, but it just wasn't happening.
The next day I had a go at my other 5.76 run, but this petered out at a measly ~5.7635. I started contemplating doing the whole run from scratch. After all, the first ~3 seconds of the run was done with just normal driving. I checked how much could be saved for the start booster trick, and it turned out to be more than I expected. At least -0.006 can be gained in just the first 1.5 seconds, which would be more than enough. You should also note that the bug that I got on this run makes the car clear the jump by quite a lot, meaning it should be quite possible to jump even further to the right.
However, struck by inspiration, I went back to my 5.76029 run and altered the jump slightly, creating a fresh new base run. The new base run started at around ~5.763, but this time Shweetz's tool absolutely breezed past the goal into a 5.75. I gave up bruteforcing when the run got down to 5.7589, but it didn't seem like it was totally done yet. With more bruteforcing time, the -0.006 from the start and removing the excess space on the jump, I'm quite positive that the 5.74 will be possible. Who knows, maybe even more?

But anyway, as it stands, Demon loses about ~0.78 to the TAS on each lap on average, which is incredible. If you don't think this is incredible, go ahead and try getting even just a sub 54 minute run on E05, good luck...

Edit: New TAS WR of 9.59 by Trabadia
So Auris showed a few of his experiments yesterday in the TAS discord on this A12 strategy. And one of his attempts looked very promising, so I decided to give it a go myself, and surprisingly enough, I managed to just beat the previous TAS.
Believe me, I have bruteforced this a lot, and I tried finbug, but for now 9.xx remains just out of reach. I have also tried ubering slightly to the right (less distance, but slower ubers) and slightly to the left (more distance, but faster ubers). Left is the more promising of the two options imo (if you wish to try this yourself). I landed at the near side of the final finish, so there is still a few metres to squeeze.
9.xx is definitely possible, go for it!
JaV
The first thing I wanted to do was check if I could TAS the ramp cut, to finally prove it's possible. I was quite happy to find out that it was. Then I did the typical wr-route way for comparison. Finally, I also wanted to do the no-cut track, just to see what's possible, and it was a bit more than expected, mainly because of the super-inhuman sector between CP1-2 (note: in the end, I was a little unhappy with my start, I think you can get a CP1 of about .10).
The flip, believe it or not, just never worked. I tried so many things, but it was quite difficult to bruteforce, because you need to set up a lot of barriers to avoid it finding solutions that just bounce off objects on the sides. It's really just a few inches away though, so I think it'd be possible with a perfect set up.
I spent a lot of time on the double bug, mostly manually driving into the CP until I got a CP bug + half decent bounce, then trying to see how high/far I could push it with bruteforce. The last few extra inches in the final run you see in the video took 100,000s of iterations with bruteforce. Again, you probably just need to find the magical set up to push it a little bit further.
The pole bounce is another old nino idea that I just tried for shits and giggles, but it surprised me how close it can get. I think if you add a drift beforehand to get the car angling a bit more uphill before the bounce, it might actually get pretty close. I didn't spend much time on this though. Maybe it's the most RTA-viable cut on c09...??

After a considerable effort, we have managed to noseTAS the first two laps of E05 Endurance. The time in the title refers to if you were to respawn after every two laps (49.35 * 30 = 24:40.50 plus 0.01 for each of the 29 respawns).
This was a relatively difficult map to work with. One CP and the multilap cannot be hit from below, and many CPs are very high up. TASing the remaining 58 laps would be an absolutely monumental task, but hopefully lots of people can come together and get it done. It would be a good idea, of course, to check all the other possibilities, to make sure we don't get half way through and find out that a faster way is possible.
Here are the stats:
RTA WR: 53:25.55 (+28:44.76) by Demon
Previous TAS WR: 42:49.19 (+18:08.40) by Alex and dimi
1st lap: 30.69 (previous TAS WR 44.98, E05-1 lap WR 54.22, and Demon's RTA WR 57.11). This lap alone was enough to smash the previous TAS WR, but we wanted to also see how a running lap would go.
Running lap: 18.66, yes, that's right, 18.66 (previous TAS WR 40.65, running lap WR (dedi by Drarker) 52.56, RTA WR 2nd lap 53.17).
Currently, with 2 laps TASed and 29 respawns, we save 53.8% time relative to the RTA WR (please refer to the graph at the end of the video).
Adding two more laps, assuming they are also 18.66, would increase the savings to 59.4%, which would be enough to break the current WR for savings of 59.1%, done recently on TMN F-9 by Alex.
TASing 10 laps at this pace would be enough to break the 20 minute barrier on E05.
TASing all 60 laps at this pace would result in a time of 18:51.63 ( -34:33.92), with a total savings of 64.7%.

Thanks ins for helping get the nose position after the first bug-hit.
Inputs to first CP was taken from mads (fastest Top 10 start).
RTA WR: 56.83 by Dennis (+25.46, ~45% saved)
Previous TAS WR: 54.93 by Dennis (+23.56)
There's a lot that could be said about this, but I won't go into too much detail. Ultimately, I'm actually not very happy about this run. The hardest part is getting the car back into a good nose position after each bug hit. The fact the map is multilap added further challenges, as I could no longer use some of my traditional methods (e.g., you can't really use triggers cause you've already gone through that spot once before, and you can't use snow-fins after the multilap bug-hit, because you need to go back through the CP first). In the end, I found a way using giant ring CPs, but some kind of scripting would be better.
Obviously some of these sectors are much better than others. The fastest was about 2.5 seconds and the slowest was about 3.5 seconds. At the end of the day, I just didn't have enough patience to optimize these further. After all my experiments, I estimate that theoretically you could do ~2.1ish sectors with perfect nose set ups, and perfect nose boosts. The first nose is at 17.5s, so that means a time of 28.0s would be the absolute limit here, just enough to hit that mythical 50% time saved. I hope one of you will do this one day.
Hope you enjoy anyway,
Which map will be next? Hmm

WR: Hefest - 14.59 (+3.64)
Previous TAS WR: donadigo - 13.90 (+2.95)
The surprising thing about this TAS is how little time it took.
All I had to do was set up the nose (really easy) and spam keys a little in slowmo (still all I had was one 90 degree nose), then add bruteforce, and it found this combination of however many noses that is. Finally, just needed to redirect it to the finish with further bruteforce, which again took no time at all.
I tried to get the bugfin, but it really wouldn't work. I even tried blocking the finish, but it still got nothing. Someone can try it if they want.

The Maengou + Speedy TAS was great, but it left a lot of room for improvement. This is the German car in the video I used for CP comparisons.
Current WR: 43.57 by Hefest (+2.95)
Previous TAS: 41.98 by Maengou/Speedy (+1.36)
Compared to Hefest's WR, the loop cut saves around 2.20 seconds, the end cut saves around 0.60, and the rest came from an improved start. I hope this run satisfies your desire to know exactly how much this cut is capable of saving. The end roof hit that the previous TAS used looked really cool, but I'm quite sure that this style end is much faster.

RTA WR: 24.38 by trinity (-0.52)
Previous TAS WR: 23.99 by trabadia (-0.13)
This nose has been speculated for a long time. It's finally confirmed to be faster now. Probably RTA-able. In theory you could beat the WR without having to do the ramm.
I usually wouldn't make a video for a small improvement like this. But since it's a new cut, I thought it'd be worth it.
Thanks,

WR by Demon: 41.66
Current TAS WR: 39.90 (comparison ghost in the video)
This cut saves about 0.25+ to the TAS start (so far). The first CPs seem really fast, but your speed is a bit lower, so the other cut catches up a bit. So that's like -1.25ish on Demon's start. Maybe a slightly faster version is possible. I didn't test this much yet.
Yeh.. I honestly tried to TAS the rest of the map. I spent a couple hours trying to replicate the 2nd cut that I did just a few days ago. But it's ridiculously hard, even with TAS/bruteforce. I was really lucky before. If one of you would be so kind as to finish off this TAS for me, I would really appreciate it.

Ok, ask the important question:
Is this RTA-viable?
Short answer: no
Long answer: well.... actually...
It really didn't take me that long to get this. I was inspired after watching Loupphok's attempt on discord. It reminded me of a cut Nino tried a long time ago. If I recall correctly, Nino actually managed to hit the side of the CP once. So, I gave it a go. And after 30 mins of messing around with different strats, I accidentally got this random left-pull on the pipe. In fact, it's quite easy to get this, so long as you have the right car angle (nose pointing a little right), and good airbrake timing (nose touches pipe first). I expect it'd be possible to get the hang of this first bounce, with a bit of practice.
The hard part, however, is what happens after this. I tried for a bit to get it to fly into the CP directly, and bounce through. This is probably possible. But, remembering Alex's TAS on E05, I decided instead to do a well-timed release in order to hit the pipe a second time. And after a bit of trying, and a bit of bruteforcing, it was clear that there was still juuuust enough speed to bounce me clearly through the ring.
I'm not sure if it'll be possible for anyone to ever do this in real life, to be honest. It's pretty unlikely. Perhaps a direct CP-bounce would be easier, since you don't need to release. The inputs aren't actually too complicated (please ignore the flickering, that's because I chose the "fill inputs" method when bruteforcing, and then bruteforce goes and changes a bunch of values that don't actually do anything, so just look at the overall turning, and of course, the turning at critical moments, such as on the pipe).
Anyway, have fun hunting

Previous TAS by Trinity is 40.65 (+0.75)
The start (until CP1) is taken from Trin's TAS.
So, this is a really old cut idea by Nino that we tried together many many years ago. I don't think it was ever made public, because we never expected it to work. I randomly got inspired to try it out, and rather surprisingly, it worked! Nino is basically the Fermat of trackmania: all of his cut ideas will eventually be proven.
The cut sectors actually only saved about 0.30 compared to trin's run. I think it may be possible to get a slightly faster bugslide, but I'm pretty satisfied with the current result. The cut is ludicrously difficult, so don't expect anyone to ever do this for real.
Few other notes:
Another ~0.40 was saved before the new cut. Mostly from an improved landing at CP1. It seems trin got too excited at succeeding in the cut, that he continued the run without realising that simply turning right on the landing would instantly save 0.25 seconds. Fun times.
You may be wondering why I didn't do the roof-hit for the ending. Well, I did try... but this turned out to be the fastest result. In fact, it's where I saved the last ~0.05 compared to trin's TAS. I'm not sure if a roof-hit can actually beat this.
No insta-airbrake on the CP5 jump?? Yeh... i know it looks kinda clunky, but it is actually faster. This was a surprising find by bruteforce. It's quite sensitive though (most small deviations can ruin the improvement and some), so I wouldn't recommend trying it normally. The reason I lost time to Demon on that sector is because there's a small release before the ring in order to do the new cut.

So I decided to TAS the whole run. Link sent me his best 180 turn, and I improved this using bruteforce. I started from Pablo's overwall spot. With this it was possible to achieve a time of 27.4x (possibly .3x), which is already impressive enough. Since it's a less risky spot (you don't need to fly as far), it would be a good spot to use if you are intending to try and get the WR with the overwall. However, seeing how far the car can fly over the wall on that run, it was obvious that you can overwall from much earlier.
So I then tried the spot that was used for this TAS, earlier than any of the Top 10. After hundreds of iterations, I struck gold, and got this amazing .18 overwall, which kept itself really low over the wall, but just high enough to reach the platform. I couldn't believe it. Bruteforce did some really weird stuff during the overwall, and slight deviations of any of these weird inputs will lead to an absolute failure. However, I did my overwall attempts (mostly) manually, so there is a chance...
It's possible to fly much higher/further on the overwall than this run. So I did actually try to overwall even earlier (slightly before the previous "TM" sign). It is in fact possible (just), but it was necessary to drive/hang on the wall a little bit longer, and perhaps a bit too much airtime. The resulting time was just a little bit slower than this run (~27.2x). So it's definitely not worth it.
Perhaps a little bit more can be saved here and there, but honestly I would doubt that .0x is possible on this map (without more tricks being found).
Do you think more is possible with the Alexey cut? Can 26.xx be done? At first I thought yes, perhaps by ubering to a direct fin. But now I'm not so sure. For now, overwall is the fastest way (but Alexey's cut is waaaaay easier and much more fun, so there's no way in hell I expect to see WR with overwall ever again).

3 months ago, just after the hype of rollin's new cut on d06, I found out that, with the help of a small modification, Alex's cut idea on d06 was actually possible. Ever since that day, dennis090 has been working hard to finally see it done. It took 3 months, but it was totally worth it.
It should be noted that dennis uses keyboard too, which makes the start of lap 3 ten times more difficult than it is with pad. This was one of the many challenges he had to overcome.
I cheered him on the entire way, never giving up hope! Thanks to that, he allowed me to make this video for him.
New WR on D06 by dennis090: 56.83 (just -0.03 on Rollin with an incredibly clutch ending, it was so unlucky not to get -0.40 here).

This TAS run was done by combining save-states with donadigo's bruteforce tool. I basically spent 30-60 minutes on each corner trying to get it perfect, and then used 15 minutes or more of bruteforcing to fine-tune it afterwards. If I spent even more time on each corner, more time could be saved. Realistically, I would say that somewhere between 1-2 seconds could be saved still. Perhaps more if you included some tricks, like some potential ramms and speeddrifts. Unfortunately, after getting about 1 minute into the track, I started improving the process that I was using, and I realised that the first 30 seconds wasn't actually that great. It's still much faster than the WR, but it could be better. As the run went on, I got pickier and picker with each turn, so the run only gets better and better.
Some notes:
1. It's not always fastest to drive as close to the wall as possible. You may notice that I don't do this on every turn. It's generally because it's not ideal to do so, for various reasons.
2. There are a lot of ramms in this run. Every one is there because it's actually useful and faster. A lot of these were found by the bruteforce tool.
3. It's difficult to know for sure exactly how to optimise a particular corner. There's always a balance between speed and distance travelled. For instance, in many sections of this track, you have the option of doing 1, 2 or 3 drifts (e.g. at 2:20). Mawi chose to do 3 drifts here. I experimented a little and determined that 2 drifts seemed to be the fastest. But it's hard to know for sure. Of course, one could chose to do 3 drifts because it's more consistent, rather than because it's fastest.
4. The end is kinda a "cut", but not really? I can jump further along the track because I have more speed. If I had enough speed to jump directly into the finish, should I be forced to slow down to avoid jumping over/cutting a small piece of the track? I don't think so, so I allowed this.

This is thanks to a new start trick discovered by Zytryhard. Whether or not this start trick is actually possible to do in the real world is yet unknown.
In the rest of the run I used save-state + bruteforce for pruning as usual. I imagined to save a couple hundreths here and there on my previous TAS run, but it's mostly the same.

So, nothing particularly special in this run. No crazy nose bugs or uber bugs, but I'm happy to see a nice sub 44 second run.
I always wanted to get a nice pole bounce on CP6, and this probably isn't it. This pole bounce is actually about equal to the fastest drift I could do. I spent hours just trying to get this pole bounce to work, and even bruteforce couldn't better solutions. I'm sure there's a bit more potential in this. So if you wanna give it a go, here is the replay:

The no-drift was a fail from last year, and the even better one was my soul-destroying moment from last night. I still haven't gotten over this yet.
Back with some more decent content for once.
E01 loop cut finally confirmed (and with style). You're welcome world. This cut I got had a land-bug, but was still potentially -0.40 on WR. So it's safe to say that, with this new style, -1sec on WR should be poss. Good luck doing it in cam 3.

Happy to be back and ready to make more videos for you.
This is the entire history from 2008-present day of the Top 10 players with the most world record in TMNF nadeo tracks. If you like this format, let me know, there's so much more data I can shove down your throats! Hope you enjoy.
Thanks to my TMX history team for help making this video. You know who you are.
Everything for obtaining data and generating the bar graph was performed using Matlab.
Some trivia for each of the clips I showed in the video:
2008: Kluhtu uploads WRs on B01, B02, B03, B05, B06, B07, B08, B10, B12, B13, B14, and B15 on the same day. One month later he did something similar, but with the C tracks and a few D tracks.
2009: Karjen dominates the nadeo scene for the whole year.
2010: Anarki has the most WR uploads in 2010.
2011: Kenny is the first non-european to significantly feature in the top nadeo players.
2012: racehans stuns the nadeo community with his unparalleled skills.
2013: racehans continues to dominate, bringing his WR count higher.
2014: riolu! starts to challenge racehans on many maps, a battle of titans.
2015: Wirtual gets his first nadeo WR.
2016: After fighting on C10 with Drarker throughout the year, magic-pete drives one of the most unbeatable WRs ever seen. It is currently the oldest WR in the TMNF campaign.
2017: Demon continues setting a few WRs every year. One of the most consistent players throughout the games history.
2018: Sativa takes precision maps to a whole new level in Trackmania.
2019: Hefest gets a perfect A12 uber. Nadeoest-nadeo starts. The community challenges itself to beat all 65 records by the end of 2019. You can probably tell that things got really going in August-October. In the end, they managed to get 56/65, well beyond anyone's wildest dreams.
2020: After losing almost all his WRs during nadeoest-nadeo, racehans proves once again he is the best, by uploading 15 WRs at once.
2021: The most recent WR by Rollin, after finding a new trick on D06.

This is certainly gonna be one of the best WRs in 2020.
Raizo is the first player to get WR with the 8 cut route with a time of 3:29.06. The last WR was 3:34.14 by Wirtual (which was one of the best WRs of 2019), and this is a full 5 seconds faster! Not only did he do one of the hardest tracks to do, but he did it faaaaaaaaaaaaaaaast.
Every single cut (even the jumps) involves huge skill. And the run is flawless, apart from one small wall hit (thanks to an unlucky ramm) near the start. But honestly, this didn't cost him much time. It will be extremely difficult to beat this now. Huge congrats Raizo.
Unfortunately, Labaffue beat the old WR literally moments after Raizo beat it. Labaffues time was "only" 3:33.68. But it is definitely an awesome feat of it's own. He was just really unlucky that Raizo beat him to it.

So I came up with the idea of mixing the Samir vid with poor E02 driving. For this, I use the worst ever time uploaded to tmx on E02 (5:05.85, by a guy called player_j back in April 2008).
I was later told that this kind of video has already actually been done in trackmania (and quite recently too) by arcmeme (here is the video link youtube.com/watch?v=X91ReaVc2ZM). Because of this, I wasn't gonna upload this video, but he used a PF map, and i think E02 is a bit more appropriate (also note people have done this kinda video for other games in the past too, so the idea isn't totally original).
Anyway, enjoy.
Currently working on some TMNF history stuff for later.

After the epic nadeoest nadeo that was 2019, it is time that we had an update of all of the TMNF nadeo WR battles!
A few notes:
- As some have noticed, there is a little blank screen glitch on B09 around 10:33. Sorry about that, my laptop is not really suitable for vegas. It was a rendering glitch that kept occurring (I had to render 5 times and it takes 3 hours each time, so I wont be doing it again...).
- The "*" next to a name simply signifies who the camera is on at the time.
- I will save E05 Endurance for a later video. I'm sure you noticed it's not there. (No, it's not because I was too lazy to do it... perhaps...).
- Some of the battles were a little tricky to show well, since they were either so far apart, or doing completely different routes (e.g. C14/E02/E04). I hope you like the style I settled for.
- Apologies if I got your country skin wrong. Sometimes I changed it on purpose to avoid having two cars of the same/similar colours (e.g. D15 Endurance). Also sorry about Raizo's car skin. His replay file was corrupt and the game crashes if you try to change the skin, so I had to leave it grey (on more than one occasion).

Back for a quick video about a new cut (or at least, different cut style) on C09 Race. I'll give 10k cc to the first player to get the WR with this cut. Good luck. So far, I've been unable to do it properly yet, so I don't know exactly how much time it saves, but it should be quite a lot!
I'm away travelling at the moment, so wont have much time for videos, even though there's so many I want to do!

^^ This is the original description from 2013. Yes, you are not going crazy, this is an old video!
In a spurt of nostalgia, I decided to re-watch a couple old videos of mine this weekend. At the time, I designed a couple of them to include the youtube comments feature as part of the information presented in the videos. But now you can no longer see these comments. So some parts of the videos don't really make sense. There's also the fact that they kinda don't have "great" quality... hmm...
So I decided to revamp this video for fun. Everything is the same, but in higher quality. The four maps from the original video are the same, but I've shown the new and improved WRs instead:

The D11 and B06 WRs done in the new video are actually very old WRs. But the D04 WR is brand new. We played it today and Meh found a couple new cuts/tricks which helped improve the route significantly (pretty sick eh, but 52.xx is possible!). Have a look at the old video to see why the old WR was so slow. If you beat one of these four WRs I'll give you 1,000 cc. (EDIT: D04/C06 have been beaten by raizo. I am still offering 1000 cc each for D11/B06 WRs)
Nadeo reverse maps were great fun back in the day. They essentially created a puzzle. How do you get to all the checkpoints and back to the start (finish) using ONLY the original blocks from the real map. We originally thought many of them would be impossible. But, through a lot of determination, we eventually managed to solve all 65 of them!
I hope you enjoy this nostalgia, if you've been watching since 2013 anyway...

This is the 2nd video I'm posting in relation to the TMX history project that the team and I worked on. There will be more. I hope you enjoy.
The team:
- Wirtual, Insane, Edge, Hefest, Karjen, DarkLink, Nawk, Raizo, Trinity, and Amgreborn.
I picked the most impressive WR out of alllllllll WRs from each year in TMNF nadeo history. This is from 2008 - 2019. I decided this based on how long the replay was WR, how much it beat the previous WR by, how many people have beaten it since, and how much skill was required.
Disclaimer: This is just my humble opinion. Feel free to discuss the replays that you would have picked! Did I miss an important one by accident???
Music:
- Model Man - Clarity
- Satin Jackets - Just Like You (Knight One Remix)
- Boy Dude - Cosmic Lines
- Maduk - Still In Love
