Since the day a saw Dream Theater live here in Lisbon, Portugal (16 November 2024) and they played the amazing song Octavarium I thought to myself that I had to learn that acoustic guitar part when James starts to sing. In the show they played it with such a great vibe and feeling that really touched my soul. So I took my time to learn it well, then play it and record it. I had so much effort in learning the guitar picking that I had to record it so I will never forget it. It's such an amazing chord progression with beautifull vocal melody. So I also learned the lyrics and the voice melody and recorded my own voice. I love singing this song.In the end I composed an acoustic guitar solo, because I didn't want to continue with the rest when the electric guitar enter, I wanted to keep it acoustic. Then I had to put some drums and bass on that part to support the solo. I think it turned out cool and allows the song to have proper ending. The lyrics means a lot to me: not to conform to the security of little achievements in life and always pursuit higher Dreams. That is what I try to do with music, always trying something new, something that is beyond what I can see, never conforming with what I've done. The song is about that, trying to avoid being someone like another person that is so secure, just content to live day after day, conformed with his own world. I think that speaks also about trying to be someone different from the roots we came from. We sometimes say that we are who we are because of the childhood we lived, some traumas can ruin our lifes, and stop us from dreaming higher. So, in my opinion this song can be also about someone who is trying to break free from the chains of some kind of traumatic past that will try to hold that person back, freezing him from achieving higher goals in life.#dreamtheater #octavarium #acousticguitar #cover #progrock

I came out with this melodic ideas that I hope you enjoy. I tryed to give my Schecter Sun Valley a touch of Fender type of sound, using the Neck Pickup (Sustainiac) but with the sustain effect off. It was suggested to go with E Aeolian but my ears were leaning towards E Dorian. So that's it. Keep on playing!

The Sound of Silence - Pedro Fernandes Pedro Fernandes Guitar 2020-04-30 | This is one of my favorite songs ever, I hear it since I was 8-9 years old. I remember hearing it on my headphones, alone, in the dark and the opening sentence made perfect sense. Paul Simon himself said that he composed this song in the dark to better focus on the sound that came out of his guitar. An introspective song that, in my opinion, speaks of the importance that people give to the image at the expense of words. A criticism for hyperstimulation that screens promote in humans and that submerge their creative and imaginative capacity. This is a Hard Rock version with some original details that I got from my own creativity. And in these times of confinement, the empty streets, the roads without cars, the sound of silence becomes clearer, which we often need to hear. Instrumental and voice of Pedro Fernandes.
