Frustrated, we’re taken on a musical journey of singing & choreography through Disco and Ballroom, through his imagination. Giving a voice to his silenced, jobseeking peers, calling for access and change. Revealing each ‘nameless’ characters story and their in/visible disability creating a symbol of hope in this imagined world, before Nicholas is brought back to reality after being urged to get a job.Yasmin Godo is a neurodiverse director, with a background as a 1st Assistant Director of 7 years helping to shape and hone her style of Directing & Writing, working besides and sharing credits with the likes of BAFTA winners Nelson Adeosun, Cherish Oteka, Barbara Broccoli & Fiona Lamptey. She has worked across Short Film, Narrative (Film 4/E4), Comedy for TV (Channel 4 & Channel5), Commercials, Online multi-camera set up, Live performance (James Corden Show, Tonight with Jimmy Fallon) Music Promo and Documentary. Producing across independent and commissioned short films for the BBC, she was shortlisted for The British Arrows - Young Arrows Awards for “BEST NEW DIRECTOR”, for co-produced short film “The Skin I Move In”. Yasmin’s previous public speaking engagements (TEDx Talk), penning children’s stories, animation scripts and her work across narrative and music promo has fed into her overall style of directing/writing, which led to her directing debut for Channel 4 Random Acts, as part of their 40th year anniversary. A Spell for Wornington Green Random Acts 2021-09-08 | A Spell For Wornington Green was shot over 2020-2021 during the Covid lockdown on Wornington Green Estate in North Kensington and follows the hatching and first flight of two baby pigeons and the subsequent coming together of the community in direct action to prevent the felling of 37 trees as a consequence of urban regeneration. The film is told from the poetic perspective of estate resident and playwright Natasha Langridge (BBC Writers Academy and Meyer-Whitworth Award winner). The film is edited, photographed and directed by Constantine Gras who is a community based film maker who has worked on the social housing estates of North Kensington over the past 10 years and his footage of residents living in Grenfell Tower before the tragic fire is the subject of a major documentary called Grenfell: The Untold Story.

It's about the word “lesbian”, and the decades of toxic connotations that have made it feel like a hostile piece of language: so much so that today, many queer women hesitate before using it. Rosemary Baker's short film of the poem, which features a cast of real queer women, uses intricate body painting to bring to life what those layers of toxicity feel like. In an era of headline-hitting attacks on lesbians in public, it is a call to arms to take the word back.ABOUT THE DIRECTORRosemary Baker is a queer filmmaker and visual artist with an established, and award-winning, career as a shooting Producer-Director in factual TV in the UK. She lives and works in Cardiff. Her work is particularly concerned with lesbian experiences, displacement, adoption and mixed heritage existence. She splits her time between the UK and Beirut.DIRECTOR’S STATEMENT“As a lesbian woman who has never felt fully comfortable with the word "lesbian", this film is extremely personal to me. Lisa’s poem nails an aspect of the queer female experience today which, to my mind, no other person or piece of work has managed to put its finger on. Uniquely, too, it’s addressed as much to lesbians as it is to the rest of the world. When I first heard it, I felt called out: why did I feel uncomfortable referring to myself a lesbian, and isn't it time that changed?From the start of this project, I felt three things strongly: 1) the film should centre on Lisa delivering the poem straight to camera as a direct address, 2) it needed to feature a diverse cast of real lesbians of different ethnicities and faiths, with trans lesbians explicitly included, and 3) the film should evoke the idea of a safe space made unsafe. The hand-drawn (self-produced) artworks, featured throughout, riff on various hostile associations with the word to create an inhospitable sense of place. The notes blown have a soothing effect, calming the atmosphere and the tension, merging with the surrounding landscape. In the summer of 2018, Nick was visiting his father in law in the Black Forest with his new-born daughter. Walking with family up a gentle slope, he heard the deep, soothing, but also eerie sounds of the Alphorn. The Alphorn quartet were standing, facing the vast view of rolling green hills, playing a melody which would reach the bottom of the valley. Nick absorbed the very personal sentiments and strange, delicate and beautiful atmosphere of his trip and the alphorn and he is now sharing this with us in The Forest Sings.
