Kate Wolf Cover for Dawn …RIP. Chris Economou 2024-03-13 | There was a death in our family. I found out about it today. Dawn wasn’t blood, but she was a sister from our unique and privileged childhood in the Middle East. Her father was the umpire at my brother’s baseball games. Her mother was a social butterfly. Dawn was a positive light and a loyal friend since we were young kids. I am grateful to have known her. I wish I could have told her that once more. I have words for a song in my head that is evolving, but tonight, at my children’s music lessons, I picked up this guitar and went into a practice room and played this Kate Wolf song for Dawn. It’s raw and sad, and it may make you cry. But I’m posting it because music is healing and I felt moved to sing for to her.Dawn, you are loved by so many people, all over the world. It landed between our fence and the fence surrounding the water catchment behind the neighborhood. The only way I could see getting it out (without bothering the people who could potentially get me in with a key) was to crawl under the bottom of the fence and retrieve it myself. We got to see some geese setting off for their next stop…beautiful nature! I think being a kindergarten teacher for so many years and also a mother has preserved a childlike enjoyment within me of stuff most people would find mundane. My friend and fellow music creator has been requesting I do Johnny Cash’s cover of Hurt, and while I have been strumming it a bit and working on it with the guitar, it’s not a song I’d normally cover. But then here’s Sam’s challenge and I figured what’s more upside down for me than to sing a depressing song a cappella in the car in the grocery store parking lot on a dreary day. Haha. Garden Zen with Chris EO Chris Economou 2023-06-02 | It’s amazing how we can look at one moment as a loss and not realize the opportunity that may be before our eyes. This is how I felt when my dad had four old pine trees cut down in his back yard; trees that provided shade, sunrise visuals, a view of majestic trees from my window. I was feeling down at what appeared to be a great loss for Mother Nature. It just so happened I was looking for a way to compost our kitchen scraps without creating a buffet for the local wildlife. So I began creating “demi-lunes” and burying our kitchen compost in the area where one of the great trees had been.I have dug out stumps and roots and even incredible rocks of all sizes!! I’ve posted a couple videos with the stumps. Super exciting. Here is a shortish video of my garden progress so far, as of June 2, 2023. The first photos in the video were from end of March/early April, 2023. I have spent about $45 on chicken wire fencing and $15 on a pack of seeds. I am grateful for the lessons Mother Nature and my garden are teaching me. And I am ever thankful for what I learned serving as a US Peace Corps Volunteer in Niger, true life-long lessons.Thanks for checking out my video!Happy gardening, friends!~Chris

Also, a shoutout to Superbooth, though I didn’t get to do anything with this other than upload it here…notmuch time for GarageBand exploration this weekend. Still inspired by you synth heads, JamFam. Bleeps and dings and layerings…these are a few of my favourite things…For this entry, I wrote a song using the poem my family taught me when I was a baby, in Greece, when we’d go visit there in the summers. While Greek was my first language, it’s no longer my strongest one. Here’s the poem, translated, line by line, into English. It obviously sounds a lot better in Greek. It’s just the chorus. The rest of the song asks, Why isn’t Sunday in this song? My mom was on oxygen for the last years of her life. I was thinking about her and how modern medicine can prolong the life of a person. My thoughts drifted as I was strumming a bit on my guitar. Stump Removal 2.0 - Chris vs. Stump Chris Economou 2022-11-19 | Thanks for stopping by!On a blistering but sunny day, I was compelled to work on a task I’d assumed would be more challenging than it turned out to be. What appeared to be two stumps was just one that was spread out, and, it turns out, had fairly shallow roots. I was sure I’d need to use the ax I’ve borrow from a friend. I only used the metal shovel my dad bought earlier this year.I am using this space to compost our kitchen fruit/veggie scarps, and will also decompose yard waste here over the winter. There are still some winter greens in the two garden beds above this new one. I am still in awe as to how this garden has unfolded before my eyes.I spent a bit of time sorting the bricks, and I know that inspiration is always blowing around in this breeze.Enjoy the zen sounds of the wind chime as I share an edited version of what went down. 🕊🌱☀️💪🏼💕🎶💨
