#Blackathon #Blackathon2022 #BookTubeBlack #BlackBookTube #BlackBooktuber #BlackNBookishReading The Black Veins by Ashia MonetLuxurious Blu2024-08-18 | A diverse group of magical friends finding each other on a road trip are on a mission to save the world and fulfill their destiny as Sages in world of The Black Veins by Ashia Monet.
It's adventure and magic, hopping all over the USA, from urban settings with fantasy hidden in plain sight.
This book definietly needs to be adapted as a Netflix or HBO Max streaming series. It's so good! How To Succeed In Contemproary Fantasy Worldbuilding With Aislinn BropheyLuxurious Blu2024-05-11 | In How To Succeed In Magic By Aislinn Brophy Shay Johnson, a talented and overachieving teen witch competes against her arch rival for a prestigious scholarship at her elite high school. Set in a contemporary fantasy world, where studying different magical arts are apart of the everyday cirriculum, and magical apptitude tests can determine the college or univerisity where students can earn a license to pratice the magical skill and art of their choice that can set them up for a great future in this world of magic.
The world building was so interesting and intriging in this book. It was very much Harry Potter-esque; in that it was fantasy in a more contemporary world with cell phones and Starbucks, but instead of the magic being hidden in plain sight, it was in plain sight, and it seems everyone used magic. Beside that the overall story set in this world felt lackluster and underwhelming. The Witchery Deserves A TV ShowLuxurious Blu2024-03-09 | The Witchery by S. Isabelle is a book waiting to come to life on screen as a TV series. It's in the league of shows like Buffy The Vampire Slayer, The Vampire Diaries and Riverdale.
Haelsford, Florida, is a hellmouth. Or at least, that's what Logan, a new witch struggling to control her powers, thinks when she arrives at Mesmortes Coven Academy. She is immediately taken under the wing of the infamous Red Three: Iris, a deathwitch, who wants nothing more than to break the town's curse; Thalia, the talented greenwitch, on the run from her religious family and a past that still haunts her; and Jailah, one of the most extraordinary witches at the academy whose thirst for power may lead her down a dark path.
With the Haunting Season approaching, Wolves will soon rise from the swamp to kill, and the humans and witches must work together to survive the yearly onslaught. However, the history between humans and witches is long and bloodied, with the current truce hard-won and hanging in the balance. And this year, the stakes couldn't be higher as two boys from Hammersmitt School prepare to make their first sacrifices to the witches in exchange for protection. But when students start turning up dead, Iris, Thalia, Jailah, and Logan realize they'll have to harness their powers and stop the Wolves themselves. Yet old dangers lie in wait, and the cost to break the curse may be greater than any witch or human could ever know...
- Synopsis of #TheWitchery by S. Isabelle, from ScholasticWheres The Drama?Luxurious Blu2024-01-20 | Six people with magical powers selected to be a part of a secret society called The Alexandrian Society. All though six are selected, only five can be induced into The Alexandrian Society.
That's an interesting concept, but where was the drama? I get that it was a character driven novel, but it kinda dragged the plot out like a Tyler Perry TV show; which weakens the action, any possible drama, intirgue or excitement.

She gets tens across the board for this story, despite a few shortcomings. A massive redemption from the #Grisha Trilogy.
Now I need to watch the Netflix #ShadowandBone series and see how that come pares to the books.
#GrishaverseIs The Movie Nastier? The Dreamers: Book vs Movie ReactionLuxurious Blu2022-04-09 | I finally got around to watching the movie adaptation of The Dreamers, directed by Bernardo Bertolucci, after reading the book by Gilbert Adair, twice. I knew the book got kinda grody, so I was wondering if the movie went as far as the book. But was the movie actually nastier than the book? Was the book worst than the movie?
The movie was directed by Bernardo Bertolucci, starring Michael Pitt, Eva Green and Louis Garrel.
I will say that reading and practicing The Artist's Way has been super helpful in getting me a better sense of positive self esteem.

#blackoweenathon #readsoullit #booktubeblack #blackbooktubeHow Did Sister Souljah Come Up With This? - Life After Death Book ReviewLuxurious Blu2021-08-24 | When I found out about Life After Death, the sequel to Sister Souljah's debut novel, The Coldest Winter Ever (TCWE), I was excited! After reading it I'm wondering, what's on Sister Souljah's mind? How did she come up with this? What was she thinking?
The Coldest Winter Ever is considerably one of my favorite books ever, so it was exciting to get the follow up to Winter Santiaga's compelling story, and seeing what she became years after serving her prison sentence. Well, Sister Souljah shattered expectations in a massive way with Life After Death. She wrote a book that was hardly predictable and a wild ride from the beginning to the end; if you could stand to take the trip.
I'm glad I got to read the book, because it was an experience that showed me that the imagination truly is limitless.
#readsoullit #blacknbookish #BooktubeBlack #BlackBooktubeRe-Reading The Grisha TrilogyLuxurious Blu2021-08-08 | I decided to re-read and review Leigh Bardugo's Grisha Trilogy before reading the Six of Crows Duology and the Netflix adaptation, Shadow and Bone. I'm not sure which books and how much changes the Netflix Shadow and Bone show will have, so I wanted to refresh my memory on the story and finally read the much lauded Six Of Crows Duology.
I went in expecting to like the #Grisha Trilogy, but not love it. The first time I read it I enjoyed the worldbuilding, and for the most part, the story was entertaining. But I was not expecting to find so many things in the series that bothered me. Honestly, I should not have re-read the series; it was a waste of time. But, silver-lining: I got to flex my critical-thinking skills! Also I had some realizations about the series: there was an underlying theme of Law Of Attraction and shadow work
I am sharing the thoughts I had while reading the series. I have critiques, and some suggestions for improvements. Actually I would love a re-write of the trilogy with improvements.
Also here's a better alternative to re-reading the series: tor.com/series/the-grisha-trilogy-reread/.Their summaries and breakdowns of the series are very insightful and a faster read than the trilogy.
Now I'm off to read the Six Of Crows Duology, get deeper in the #Grishaverse and finally watch #ShadowandBone on Netflix.

You don't even have to try You're cute enough to fuck with me tonight Lookin' at the table, all I see is weed and white Baby, you livin' the life, but nigga, you ain't livin' right
[Pre-Chorus] Cocaine and drinkin' with your friends You live in the dark, boy, I cannot pretend I'm not fazed, only here to sin If Eve ain't in your garden, you know that you can
[Chorus] Call me when you want, call me when you need Call me in the morning, I'll be on the way Call me when you want, call me when you need Call me out by your name, I'll be on the way like
[Post-Chorus] Mmm, mmm, mmm Mmm, mmm, mmm
[Verse 2] Ayy, ayy I wanna sell what you're buyin' I wanna feel on your ass in Hawaii I want that jet lag from fuckin' and flyin' Shoot a child in your mouth while I'm ridin' Oh, oh, oh, why me? A sign of the times every time that I speak A dime and a nine, it was mine every week What a time, an incline, God was shinin' on me Now I can't leave And now I'm actin' hella elite Never want the niggas that's in my league I wanna fuck the ones I envy, I envy
[Pre-Chorus] Cocaine and drinkin' with your friends You live in the dark, boy, I cannot pretend I'm not fazed, only here to sin If Eve ain't in your garden, you know that you can

Challenges: Read any book written by an Asian author. Read any book featuring an Asian protagonist. Read any book written by an Asian author in your favorite genre. Read any nonfiction book written by an Asian author. Read any book written by an Asian author that’s not US-centric.
These challenges can be combined if you want to make it even easier! The twist: You can combine challenges and read in any order; however, EACH book you read should feature a character or author of a different Asian ethnicity. This is to encourage cultural diversity. Example: I can read a Japanese book to combine challenges #1, #2, and #3. But if I read a second Japanese book, that would not count for any other challenge, therefore I still need to read about a different ethnicity to cover challenges #4 and #5.
