First Caltrain EMUs Arrive in Bay Area, Martinez, CA March 19, 2022 Western Railroad Videos 2022-03-20 | At 11:25PM on March 19, 2022 the first of Caltrain's new Stadler EMUs (Electric Multiple Units) roll through the Amtrak station at Martinez, California. UP 7340 with the SSLSJ-17 (Special-Salt Lake-San Jose-originating on the 17th of the month) is delivering the units to Caltrain in San Jose following testing in Pueblo, Colorado.
Last Run Northwestern Pacific ~ February 28, 2022 Western Railroad Videos 2022-03-02 | On Monday, February 28, 2022 the Northwestern Pacific ran their last train before SMART took over freight operations from NWP on March 1st. SMART purchased the two gensets (NWP 2009, NWP 2611) and is contracting freight operations to Summit Signal Inc. on a monthly lease. It is assumed by many that SMART will work to end all freight operations as soon as possible. MP15DC NWP 1501 will be returned to the lessor within a few months and Summit Signal may acquire additional power. For now operations aren't expected to change much. In a few months it's anyone's guess. From June, 2011 to February, 2022 the fourth incarnation of the Northwestern Pacific was a fan favorite, providing a peek at railroading from a much treasured past. With it's scarlet and gray non-turbocharged EMDs with Nathan P3s, the NWP will be missed by many and unlike the past, there will likely be no reprise of the Redwood Empire Route. Of note: February 28, 1941 was the last day of NWP interurban electric operations in Marin County. NWP 1501 Lombard Turn light power to Napa Junction seen just east of Schellville, and Brazos, CA. Return trip with 11 loads of wheat, barely and grain at Buchli, Ramal, east Schellville and west Schellville, CA.

California Northern CFNR 2269 at Creston, CA February, 2022 Western Railroad Videos 2022-02-19 | On two different days in February, 2022, California Northern's Suisun JCT bound Lombard Turn climbs to the summit on the west side of the short but stiff 1.8% grade through Jameson Canyon between Napa JCT and Suisun JCT, California. The summit is several hundred feet behind the camera in the second sequence at Creston.
Northwestern Pacific NWP 1501 & NWP 2009 Lombard Turn February 15, 2022 Western Railroad Videos 2022-02-16 | As the Northwestern Pacific prepares for the impending takeover by SMART on March 1st, 2022, it's just another day of railroading on the Redwood Empire Route in Northern California. NWP 1501 and NWP 2009 sort their train of empty LPG tank cars coming out of storage and empty grain, wheat and barely covered hoppers from the dairies and Lagunitas brewery in Petaluma, California. After switching in Schellville, the Lombard Turn is seen rolling through Marzen and Brazos. The Southern Pacific inspired scarlet and gray paint with Nathan P3s and non-turbocharged EMDs never looked or sounded so good at home in the rolling green hills and vineyards of Sonoma County. SP 3194-SP 2472-NWP 2611 Schellville, CA June 2, 2021 Western Railroad Videos 2021-06-05 | On Wednesday, June 2, 2021, Golden Gate Railroad Museum used their former Southern Pacific commute GP9E, SP 3194 to pull P-8 Pacific SP 2472 down to the NWP's maintenance yard at Schellville, CA. The purpose of this move was to position 2472 to have it's air reservoirs replaced after refurbishing. SP 3194 has a relatively rare Nathan M3 horn. Later that day, Northwestern Pacific's Lombard Turn passes through Ramal, CA as NWP 2611 shows off it's new Nathan M5 horn. NWP 2009 leads the return trip through Buchli, CA with the P3 it's worn for years.

GP40N 1527 and the three GP60s are based out of Ozol yard in Martinez, California and make the only-on-Sunday round trip to Oakland for servicing. Today's turn is quite unusual with 52 cars.

Point Richmond Wig Wag Resurrection ~ 2019 Western Railroad Videos 2019-08-03 | On Sunday, July 28, 2019 the community of Point Richmond, California held a ceremony to mark the restoration to operation of their pair of Santa Fe upper quadrant Wig Wags. The signals have sat unused for 15 years after BNSF upgraded the crossing with standard flashers and gates in October, 2004. The community raised $2,000 for the restoration and petitioned the city of Richmond and BNSF Railway to keep the signals in place. The signals will be operational for special community events. Northwestern Pacific NWP 1501 & NWP 2009 Lombard Turn, May 23, 2019 Western Railroad Videos 2019-05-24 | Northwestern Pacific prepares the morning's Lombard turn at the Schellville depot around 8 o'clock on Thursday, May 23, 2019. After pulling an empty grain hopper from the trans-load spur behind the Schellville depot, NWP 1501 takes over a dozen empty grain hoppers to Lombard for interchange with the California Northern. The train is seen crossing Skaggs Island Road after departing Schellville and then returning to Schellville, passing through the marshland northwest of the Brazos lift bridge over the Napa River. Back at Schellville the crew picks up NWP 2009 and adds the genset to the head end of the Ignacio-bound Lombard turn. During switching maneuvers, a truck clips the crossing arm on one of the crossing signals protecting the SR 121/12 grade crossing. Some quick action by an NWP employee prevented a massive traffic jam. The train then departs Schellville and is finally seen approaching the SR 37 grade crossing at Sears Point, California.

At Schellville, the crew swapped 2009 for 1501 and added over a dozen empty LPG tank cars to their train before proceeding to the California Northern interchange at Lombard. On the return trip to Ignacio, NWP 1501 hustles 13 grain loads and a lone empty LPG tank car to Schellville, before taking three of the grain loads to Ignacio where the crew tied up for the day. The return train is seen at Skaggs Island Road and Black Point, California.
