No doubt authentic military 4x units would be more durable, and perhaps the Russian made "PSO" series. Norinco SKS part 1/2 Grantman 2010-01-10 | Suppressed Norinco SKS carbine from New Zealand. Overview, field strip and mechanism. Semi automatic rifle chambered for 7.62x39. Note: Clarity of the scope is not too flash. I'd rate the quality of the site picture 4/10. The quick detach mount clamping system of the scope itself also has issues with sliding, so I'd favour a traditional screw-tightened clamp. It wasn't the reticle coming loose, it was a small piece of glass in the eyepiece. See below pictures of dismanteling and identified problem. Needless to say I do not have confidence in the cheapish POSP eastern style commercial scopes. That little piece of glass is loose in its housing and rattles back and forth quite a bit. The adjustable diopter simply appears to mean that the outer eyepiece housing screws in and out on a thread and appears quite clearly to be unrelated to this little piece of glass.http://i264.photobucket.com/albums/ii191/Grantman_album/IMG_1578.jpgThere is a little metal sleeve on a thread that screws up against the loose glass in the last picture above. You can see the metal sleeve with the two notches out of it below.A screw driver put in the notch screwed the sleeve back until it touched the glass. I have since also applied loctite and managed to screw the metal sleeve very tightly using a thin piece of metal I cut to size. Part 3: Ammunition and shooting Best to view in high quality if you possibly can. Additional info: My Tigr has a twist rate of 1:320mm or 1:12.6" the same as the SVD originally had before the SVD's was tightened to 1:240mm or 1:9.4" to better stabilise heavy ammunition such as armour piercing bullets. The tighter twist comes at a cost to accuracy with lightweight ammunition. Therefore, as I have the lesser twist rate, ideally I should be shooting lightweight ammo to get the most out of this Tigr. Thanks to 'ok131583' for the info. Measuring my twist rate came in line with 1:320mm. Mounting Leapers 3-9x50 scope on Gamo Shadow 1000 Grantman 2008-02-13 | Scope mounting on Gamo Shadow 1000, includes pictures of the different levels of scope magnification. Also includes night hunting setup with a short video through the scope at a possum with the mounted ultrafire c2 torch as illumination Scope wasn't mounted to the rifle when I took the video of the possum. The stop pin I used was simply one of the spare clamping screws that came with the scope mount. I cut the head off the screw and filed down the thread to the right height to fit the larger stop hole in the gamo receiver. The standard stop pin that came with the mount can be seen at 00:22 - the one closer to the top. Broken mainspring at approx 2500 pellets (approx 3 weeks of use). See picture below.http://i264.photobucket.com/albums/ii191/Grantman_album/DSC01966.jpg2. Changing point of impact (poi) after repair, rifle just wasn't the same. I took the rifle to an airgun specialist who replaced the spring, piston seal, and breech bolt (I had mangled the bolt trying to undo it myself). The old piston seal was wasted - check out the pictures-- This likely happened when the first spring was crudely replaced under warranty.http://i264.photobucket.com/albums/ii191/Grantman_album/DSC02406.jpgand http://i264.photobucket.com/albums/ii191/Grantman_album/DSC02412.jpgWhat I do for maintenance:all you really need is some lubricant oil for the joints in the cocking arm and on either side of the breech bolt and some sort of molybdenum grease for the slide where the cocking arm moves against the underside of the action. Just unscrew the 2 screws holding the trigger guard and 2 screws at the stock forend and the stock will come right off, be careful not to lose the little plastic roller on the cocking arm or washer on the underside of the trigger guard. Do this maybe after 3000 pellets or a few months. cleaning the barrel very very occasionally can also be a good thing, say after a few thousand pellets. I just have a cheap .177 otis micro-rifle pull through kit and any basic bore solvent will do fine (I use boretech eliminator since I also have firearms). Just run a few patches through with solvent, wait a few minutes, then run dry patches through and that's all you need if anything. Ive only cleaned my barrel once and found it beneficial. A lot depends on what type & quality pellets you use to whether you really need to clean and how badly the barrel fouls.
