Resident Evil's slow movement away from triple-A horror took the entire survival horror genre with it, until very, very few horror titles existed outside of the indie space. For a time, indie horror thrived, showing players that the traditional horror design we'd come to know isn't all that could be done. Still, people yearned for a return of that classic survival horror in the triple-A space. Games like P.T. gave players a teaser of what that could maybe be like. After Silent Hills was unfortunately canceled however, it was up to Resident Evil 7's Beginning Hour demo to pick of the pieces. Could Resident Evil 7 be everything people wanted it... needed it to be?
