Doom II: Deep Breath Map01 - Pressure Machine (Ultra-Violence, All Secrets, No Deaths or Saves)
updated
Understanding (...) Season 1 Episode 1: Bruisers (Doom 3 ROE)
Damn I love Doom 3 and its expansion and DAMN I love Bruisers. They're such a cool enemy with a truly wild design and though I wish they'd made some sort of return in newer Doom titles, I kind of like how they're locked away within the walls of this most excellent expansion.
Let's give 'em a peek.

Just in time for the spooky season, EduardoAndFriends presents a new 8 level Doom mapset filled with magic, mayhem, and SO. MUCH. RED.
You step in to the church's gloom,
Summoned to face an unknown Doom,
In a land of dark magic where trouble looms,
And a people cry out 'midst a plague's sickly bloom
To Dunmere you must fly, through forests and caves,
Though citadels and fortresses shall bar the way
Before the Witch King you stand in his tower of red,
One must survive and one ... must be dead.

It's time to get magical. Join me as I stick my beak into Wizordum's fun, colourful bestiary!
There's a Steam Key for the game up for grabs too! The three part code has been broken up into three parts, hidden in the video. If you find all three and make it to the store before anyone else, don't forget to put the dashes between the code segments. Example: xxxxx-xxxxx-xxxxx
Happy hunting!

There's something to be loved about each and every weapon, so let's gush.
I'll be eyeballing each weapon, considering its uses, appreciating its design, and making comparisons between the full game and the Feburary 17th 1996 alpha leak.
Got a favourite weapon? Let me know!
*Please note - at 26:16 it should read 'Nick Newhard' not 'Newhart'. That's a whoopsie.

Time to have a peek at the beasties from id Software's 1996 classic. Vores! Shamblers! Ogres! I love 'em all.
Due to the enigmatic nature of Quake's monsters, I've chosen to really consider their place in the game world for this video, doing a big think about their purpose and their character, as well as all of their other aspects.

Return to Castle Wolfenstein! Easily one of the best shooters ever made, hands down. Here is a dissection of the wicked bad guys encountered in the game, focusing on the PC release.
YES, I'm well aware of the Cursed Sands mission for consoles and the Xbox exclusive enemies, but I'm PCing it here.

It's time to stream, baby! I've never done one before, so this is more of a test stream than anything but I'm sure it'll be fun regardless of anything that will go wrong, lol. I thought for my inaugural stream I should do something fun and punchy which of course means Skillsaw. I haven't played Valiant in a number of years so I won't remember everything, especially as I get deeper into the WAD.

Eviternity! EVITERNITY! So good they named it twice.
As PWADs go, Eviternity (2018) and its sequel (2024) are at the top of the pile. Everything is of the highest quality from the music to the textures to the monsters. Let's have a peek.

Roll up, roll up, it's time to finish off the Big Build Engine Three. I had only dipped into this game before briefly, so doing this video was a very fun, informative time.
Shadow Warrior (1997) is a wild, exciting ride with intriguing weapons, kooky baddies, and (something I forgot to mention) a totally kickass soundtrack - nice one, Mr Jackson. Give it a play if you haven't already.
Something amiss with what I said? Correct me in the comments below.
Game played via Raze sourceport v1.10.2. I tried with BuildGDX(JRE) but it kept crashing and Redux just didn't handle terribly well for my liking.

Time for yet another MIDI. This one WILL be extended eventually, but for now it sits at 3 minutes 45 seconds.
This one just started off with a hefty deep bass line playing a D with other instruments chipping in. It wasn't until later that the second round of bass lifted up to move with the rest of the melody.
I really wanted something that has a definite change of mood from the sad, interstellar start with the bells to the break which has some attitude. I quite like how the callbacks work in the piece and I'll definitely find room to have some more slimmed down areas in the final piece.
You'll have to wrestle the sawtooth synth from my cold, dead hands. Sawtooth, sawtooth, everywhere!

Been cooking up more MIDIs, y'all. This one is going to be used in Crimson Horror (WIP map shots seen throughout video).
This started off as an attempt to do something more like Big Kev's Hexen music with a wildly rippling bass, and then I feel into my old habits of bricking in the bassline with a basic spread of chords which (as always seems to be the case) turned into a bog standard galloping action game tune lol.
I wanted the harp to loop hypnotically like the twinkling of stars on a frosty night, distant but bright. Then synth stabs (gotta have synth stabs) joined the mix with the CHUNKY synth drums which really widens everything nicely.
There was a choir voice at one point but it was too anaemic so I turned it into a square wave which has a bit more sass and is more Lee Jackson, which is what I always aim for.
It's only three minutes long at the moment, so I'll definitely be stretching it out for the final composition. -Edz xo
Get ready to bring literacy to the ignorant Gruzzles, one scalding-hot slime bucket at a time.
It's time to get your hands well-red.
Yes, this is a stupid fan-made trailer, OBVIOUSLY. This game is really awesome and I played it so much at primary school back in the 90s. I only just discovered it's on Steam which blew my mind for some reason. Give it a play, it's super cheap and sick as frick.

Just a brief test of a section from Map01 of my current Doom project. We're testing the nastiness of our minotaur towers and the effectiveness of platforming over deadly floors. Nice.

Finally got myself into the recording studio today to lay down a rough cut of "The Witch's Hammer", one of the bespoke tracks I'm making for an upcoming mapset. Still need to balance a number of tracks and fiddle with the exporting so things aren't as compressed, but I'm feeling pretty good about it. :) Two hours well spent, I reckon! I used a royalty free sample for the drums as without a physical kit, I'm a bit lost and can't feel the groove so I think it's fine for use in a free Doom mod, heh.
All instruments performed by me except the drums track. Vocals were a lot of fun. ;)
The Witch's Hammer: I wrote the piano riff for this over ten years ago and didn't do anything with it. Seeing as how I'm dealing with a gothic vibe with this mapset, it seemed appropriate for a map01 slot. Straight, uncomplicated, gothic, and melancholy.
Constantly ducking and dodging around A minor (my favourite progression besides D minor), this track builds from its fairly naked beginning to a bigger piece by its end. The movement is frenetic, jerking you to and fro as it bounces from the jiggling chorus to the more spacious verse and bridges.
Solos were improvised on the spot as I needed to fill the space and I'm largely happy with the result. Might need to tweak the tones so the lead isn't so reedy.
More to come!

I've always liked bright, bold visual feedback in games when damage is done to baddies, so I thought I'd cobble together my own quick version of a pain state mod. Good fun!
Grab it here and take 'er for a spin if you wish: dropbox.com/scl/fi/h125nrlethjqt2ze7vhoc/Pain-Mod.wad?rlkey=2n2si8h6ovmt904qaq9o7qoyk&st=yalgo66x&dl=1
I cobbled together my first MIDI (to be made public) for my upcoming Doom map.
I took inspiration from Stewboy with the acoustic parts and then went hard on the chord strikes when the synth comes in.
I'll extend it for the map (as it's a long-ish map) and add some more parts. But this is the main theme! Let me know if you'd like a download link. :) -Edz
